Sorry for the delay...new computer, ect.
I hope the length is ok...judging from most comments, people were not happy with the last trip being split into a series, so this time I made it all into one long video.
Hope you guys enjoy,
Let me know what you think of the Walmart gear.
Thanks!
I enjoyed this video alot.
I think it´s important to show that you don´t need the best and most expensive gear to have a good experience in the outdoors. It´s easy to get a warped view of what kind of gear you need to camp when you see all the people on youtube running around with luxury gear!
Thank you for keeping the video length! I anyways enjoy sitting back and watching your trips as a complete experience ^^
For the record I preferred it when they were split, but hey, not gunna cry about it! Great stuff as always
Love these trip videos man. So peaceful and relaxing.
Joe Robinet i love your videos
No matter how old this video gets I'll always come back to see scout. We'll all miss you~
I’ve been getting recommended them too
This is one of my favorite videos. :)
Did he die? I haven’t watch in years
@@bandoo8181 he got lymphoma and passed away. Its been awhile now but still sad about it.

Watched this video a second time just too see Scout ...RIP SCOUT
same here :(
I’m new here.. and now I’m sad..
OK, so just put things into perspective! This video is 2.5 hours long and you watch it for it's content, cos it's good content, fine I get that! Then you learn the dog (oops, sorry 'Scout') died, then you decide to watch the video again - not because of the content, but - to reminisce over a dog you have NO personal relationship to whatsoever, you only watched it on youtube?!
Rip scout can I have a shout out and will u sub to me
BLUE WALRUS hell no
I was feeling sentimental tonight and decided to give this a second viewing. Seeing Scout again made me miss him (even though I never met him!), but it made me so happy to see his puppy-like energy again. You and he continue to bring me so much happiness, even though Scout passed ~2.5 years ago. Wishing you and Tripper (and the fam!) well for this holiday season. Take care, and thank you so much for all of the great videos :)
love to see how careful he is around scout at about the 29:30 mark. Rest in peace Scout. been a long time viewer and love rewatching your old videos
I wish I had a woman who looks at me the way scout looks at sticks

I love that dog. He tries so hard to help his master. He watches him and tries to figure out what he might want him to do. Amazing how smart he is.

Was revisiting the channel haven't watched in about a year or so, Thought of scout and genuinely felt crushed I grew up with Joe and Scout for years, I remember finding out about his passing and broke apart, and to know we'd have to go three it again soon enough. Your strong Joe and I love that you still do what you do you taught me so much by just being you and talking threw a camera, May they rest in peace.
Finally, thanks Joe i was struggling with depression this last year and then i found your channel and it got me into bushcraft and out of bad thoughts

Stumbled upon your videos about a week ago, and I can't get enough. I'm disabled and can't get out much anymore. Your vids are like medicine for my soul. I appreciate what you do. Keep up the good work.

I bought that same tent from Walmart. The first night I used it, it RAINED, AND RAINED AND RAINED, and that tent kept me DRY all night long. It's a great tent.
I came here to see scout again...damnit I'm crying. What a good boy.
@Christina Reynolds Lol ok, so there really is something wrong with you...good to know. Have a great day.
@Christina Reynolds you don't matter. i think most people here rather want Scout alive than you.
@Christina Reynolds exactly, but yet you think people listen to you. you're a sad and lonely person, and i feel bad for you.
@Christina Reynolds no, if you are an obnoxious prick like you are, then you can't be anything but sad and lonely. but even tho your behaviour is rude and pointless, i still feel bad for you.
@Christina Reynolds wow you have a great way of making people hate you dogs are man's best friend you are an bitch
I like it how your dog broke the stick, when you gave him motivation
Just back to see good old scout again, it's like he'll live forever in the form of videos and memories
My Walmart challenge was ,when I lost my place, I went to Walmart and spent $500. to by a tent and camping gear to live in . I lived in it for three months , the experience was great.
You skin a deer starting exactly where the fur stops on those hind legs. That deer was shot, skinned, gutted, quartered, and packed out

My bet is that the deer carcass was placed on those saplings by a human. The force of a deer leaping high enough to get stuck precisely that way would have easily bowed at least one of those saplings down. It's a little too perfect.
Laura Weiss , yup. Too thin. The downward force of a running deer would break those saplings, i would think.
Agreed. Also, the ribs would be facing down/ back and not forward. Also the pelvis is facing up. Definitely placed there.
no expert but was the deer hung like this to be butchered ??
yeap, u can tell by the front legs was butchered right there, took the shoulders, hams and backstrap and left the rest for the yotes.
YEP!
This is the first video of yours I watched when I was dreaming of back country camping…. 3 years later I’m still watching and I’ve paddled in 3 of Ontario’s provincial parks thanks for inspiration joe keep up the great content!
Best quote: "I gonna sleep in a tent. A tent...with my dog." If this isn't heaven, I don't want to go.
@not_a_bug_but_a_feature a homeless person saying something doesn't immediately make what they said a horrible thing. People like camping in their tents with their dog, but since you know homeless people do that it means all those people camping are not thinking? Think before you speak... er, write.

I always find myself watching this video in the colder months, all your videos are therapeutic and relaxing but, I always enjoy this one, maybe it is scout? Maybe it is the length of the video, but I just loose myself in this video. Thank you Joe for everything you do, my favourite creator
Walmart gear is good in a pinch, when I first started reenacting, years ago. I bought some of their tents, including equipment; I found that over time their equipment doesn't hold up, like my flat back canvas wedge tent does. I bought the same tent, in the video about four years, ago. It was a pain to set up, but it did offer lots of room. I had to be careful with the poles, so they didn't break and it did end up with holes, in it.
I love how optimistic you are in all of your budget videos. Yes, you can buy the best quality gear and have an amazing experience. But the beginning camper can't/won't do that. They're going to get the budget stuff from where they can get it from. You show the gear in an honest light with out totally mocking it. You also show them that they can be comfortable and get the job done and then that they replace the lower quality gear with the better gear as they can afford it. THANK YOU! How to camp for the EVERY man/woman.
I like how he also went out of his way to make sure to get all of the gear a beginner would want to take with them.
If i were doing something similar i would have ditched the tent for tarps, ditched the hatchet for a marginally larger knife, invested in a nicer saw, bought sanitary wipes instead of the first aid kit, brought bandanas, and going off of what i normally eat i would have opted for a small pot that fits over the end of a stainless steel water bottle instead of the cookset.
A lot of weight, space, and cost all saved at the expense of a little more work and restrictions on what you can cook. It all comes down to preferences and skillset though.
'Multi-day nature youtubers' need to often remind newly enthused packing hobbyists, that WEIGHT is commonly the most important factor in buying product. Most are completely oblivious to this idea, when spending their money at Walmart, before having to repurchase everything again.
Awesome vid 👍
You should make a video for people who only want to spend their money once. A cheap, & an expensive kit. This hobby takes a lot of space, research, & fine tuning. How many luxuries can you fit into the ultimate new age, light weight pack.
A 'weigh -in' would be nice for that 'Walmart setup'. You made it look super useable & packable, for how much crap you had.
Fiskars are good axes we use it in the military a lot, in germany! :) Good video btw I've enjoyed it !
Lol watching Scout go after logs or trees you touch/knock over in frame immediately after you touch them never gets old.

Scout like.....come on dude, let's play with sticks. I know you like sticks and I am dog. Master of happiness. Play with sticks hooman!
doubt the deer would have stayed up with meat and head. looks like a post mortem placement
Yeah pretty sure that deer was probably cleaned right there, hung up after they removed the head etc. Def didnt get caught like that.
Did the ribs look like they were the wrong way? My ges is that someone took it or poached it. Then took the meat they wanted and left.
used to come across deer stuck like that when canoeing, they'd be hanging from a tree over the riverbank, which looked impossible, until we figured out that they didn't actually JUMP that high - they got stuck in the branches when the snow was deep or frozen on top - they die of exposure or are killed by coyotes, and then the snow melted from under them leaving the bodies hanging high in a tree.
Someone put him there as a warning to stay out of the woods ..Lucky this didn't turn out to be a found footage film.
Just kidding love his videos
I love how attentive Scout is. He is always watching everything you're doing.
I'm sorry I can't watch this because couple of months ago I adopted a dog who looks like scout. We all miss him and Trippper. WE ALL LOVE YOU. Bless you and your family. Long time fan been there since the first .

MetalSonic1389 - ME TOO! My Mom passed away 5 days ago and watching Joe’s videos seem to help me, too. Especially the dog! Maybe it has to do with isolation and survival??
That deer had to be hung there by a person. No way did it get caught there while alive. I’m guessing a hunter hung it there for processing

You are right, you don't need the most expensive gear, you just might be as comfortable. Cheers! Love your channel.
Spirit Forest I was thinking the same thing. The majority of my outdoor "gear" is fairly inexpensive or even second hand garage sale stuff!
I hiked the maddron bald trail on my first backcountry backpacking trip with gear only slightly more expensive than this because it was supposed to be a 72 hour hike, but we were first timers that cut it short.
My sleeping bag was worse than my survival blanket. I am now going to get the skycrane 2 because i am an eccentric bugger that loves going 10% or 100%. Beware of cheap, square sleeping bags from bass pro.
Spirit Forest your right to

That was fun to watch again. I'm laying here with my dog in a tent. Its raining.
Scout was good dog. The stick collector.
The way the skin on his front legs was banded in a perfect circle around the legs where it started tells me that this deer was dressed by a hunter.
Joe, I just had to watch this video again to watch Scout's unbridled joy at being in the woods with you and his sticks. He is an inspiration to us all to find joy in the moment. What a great dog..
When scout pulled the tree for you...aww
God damn it ... It is the year 2021 almost 2022 and somehow my youtube algorithm got me to this video again, I read the title, knew I had already seen it but then as soon as Scout showed, my tears came back the same as the day Joe made the heartbreaking anouncement, RIP goodest of the boys
My family and I lived the Gifford P. National forest north of Yacolt, WA for 3 months using primarily Walmart's Ozark Trail brand gear. Our 8x16ft cabin tent house us and 2 kids + gear. It kept everyone nice and dry with no issues, our camp stove, kitchen gear, sleeping bags, practically everything was Walmart. I did also buy the axe you used in the video and I bought 2 more because it was such a good axe and for $15 usd I couldn't complain. I grew up using old military surplus gear through my scouting years and it was great but as an adult I found Walmart gear was nothing to throw a party over but it all work for our 3 month PNW adventure.
