Hi Angel, you think it would be possible making a simillar video of JDMs cars that actually stood affordable or became little cheaper? If that even possible. I've no clue about american market since im europian but it might be cool idea.

Sure, but I fear that would bring attention to underrated cars, which means clout chasers will see it, which means they'll get fucked after a few years too.
This happened with certain SAAB and Volvo Sleeper models cause of my videos and Doug Demuro's videos on them. I legit feel kinda guilty too ngl.
Also I prefer to be called Bladed or Bladed Angel. Not Angel only, since that sounds like a Male Stripper name lmfao.😂

It's sad to think that people my age, 17, will never be able to afford the cars of their dreams because of people just a few years older than them. I genuinely looked forward to owning a Miata for cheap, then moving to something cooler like a Skyline or an Evo when I could afford it. But now, I know that, until the inevitable crash years and years from now, prices will just keep going up, just out of reach for me, and many others.

It really depends on what you’re into I suppose. I’m into the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s classics and I recently bought a 1977 Chevy 1 ton for 1,100. Sometimes you have to find a good deal and just roll with it. It may not be exactly what you want but I think it can still be fun. Prices for some vehicles are absolutely preposterous but I think most sellers are reasonable and aren’t always money hungry weirdos. I can say this though. Most of the larger known models of the that time like Camaros, Cornets, Bonnevilles, Trans Ams, etc. are definitely out of mine and others reasonable price range. So I guess I can see what your getting at but second hand sellers can also be an option.

It honestly breaks my heart to see these prices shoot up in value like there's no tomorrow. For the longest time I've always wanted an Evo 9 and when i saw a semi decent one going for 50k i felt my heart drop. I looked at other jdm cars and i see that they have absurd prices as well. At this point i wanna give up on jdm cars.

    • @shiftffs
      @shiftffs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

Tbh same sh is happening with me, the only difference being a slight age difference probably.
I gave up on the NSX as soon as i checked the prices, then i became an Integta DC2 fanboy for a while, but now they're 20k+ € (about 25k $ or so), and the situation is the same with literally every well known 80s-90s Japanese sports car.
Euro is appreciating at a much slower rate, but is still painful to see a Golf GTi selling for 27k€/33k$.
At this point im beginning to fall in love with older base model BMWs for the 2nd time, except this time it's not for the "aggressive" looks my 9yo self loved them for, but rather affordability, as 1980-2000 base model 3- and 5 series Bimmers are mostly under 10k, and some titles can go as low as 2000, while still being pretty well maintained. If the prices stay down im planning to get an 80s 5 series rn.

@@shiftffs Yeah a lot of my friends are starting to shift to older base model euros (Boxster, 335i, etc0 or even 90s Muscle (Trans Am WS6, SVT Cobra, etc.). Anything that is super badge or brand recognizable has been ruined by clout culture. Like the price it costs to buy an M3 over a 335i...ngl, I wouldn't blame people for picking the 335i. People used to call Base Model Cars Poverty Spec, but not our fault these MF's think people are stupid enough to cough up ALMOST DOUBLE the prices they were 5 years ago.

And prolly the most painful thing out of this is seeing my own generation both skyrocket prices for virtually every well known car, and literally ruin both the prices and the cars themselves for future generations.
And ofc times change and most companies are focused on hatchbacks and "safe" fwd off-road looking as- vehicles (SUVs), and they no longer supply parts for their classic titles, which might even result in some cars becoming super rare, or even extinct (or im just overthinking things. Sorry, it's something i do way too often.)

I got my 9 at auction for 37k in really good condition last year in July. It's honestly sad to see that even beat up ones that used to be less than 20k are worth over 30k now. It's definitely tough to get a nicer one now but with the way things are going (prices continuing to rise and gas cars possibly being completely done away with by 2030) I would say getting one now is the best thing you can do. Obviously I have no idea what your financial situation is and everyone is different when it comes to what's "worth it" but that's just my two cents. I feel like we are getting to the point where a lot of people are going to have to start going after the more obscure cars (like the Dodge Stealth over the 3000GT or Saturn Sky over the Miata) if they want something semi-affordable. It really seems like the days of cheap sports cars are coming to an end which sucks for the common enthusiast who can't afford to buy a 20k plus car, mod and maintain it, and deal with the other expenses in life. I really hope the prices do eventually come down so these cars can be owned and loved by everyone again and not just the guys who use them for Insta clout or whatever.

Same thing happened with 60’s and 70’s muscle cars in the early 2000’s, and that seemed just as ridiculous at the time. But taking care of people you love will always be priceless. Someday I hope it turns around for you and you can take care of yourself too and got some dream car you've always wanted. @@unknowntruth8919 i dont think an electric car will electrocute you in a flood, and I think that you'd have bigger worries about being in a flood. EV prices will drop eventually with faster manufacturing processes and more companies catching up in the EV race. The range will get sorted, as many EVs can already do 400+ miles (think 20 gallon tank doing 20 mpgs.. not bad) and will continue to get better. Replacement parts for the body of an EV isn't an issue I see brought up often, but with more EVs being produced, there will be more EV panels. Batteries are very expensive like you said, and it might take a while for that issue to be solved; one of the biggest gripes of myself, and other car enthusiasts is that self-repairs or even 3rd party repairs are difficult. The manufacturers want to control the right to repair, similarly to Apple with their phones. With Apple constantly being forced to walk back on their right to repair policies, I think auto manufacturers will have to follow suit. If your gas car runs out of gas, you will also freeze (your statement here doesn't make much sense.)
The biggest commercial issue with EVs as of now is the infrastructure for readily available charging ports hasn't been adopted, but it will be in the next 10-20 or so years. With the EU committing to banning ICE cars from the road in the next 10-15 years, there will be a boom in EVs. We can't blindly cast the new technology aside and be ignorant about its potential. But we sure can be mad that the ICE will be getting replaced in our lifetimes.
Hobby cars might not disappear, but they won't be getting any cheaper. Not in the long haul anyway.

Last time I went to the Car meet I've talked a lot of JDM car owners and most of them told me that buying one is like "meeting your childhood hero" and its often dissapointing
For example the Supra owner, he had the car bone stock like 0 mods, just changed the suspension and that's it and even then he said that he car was waay to rought to use it as daily car despite a lot of youtubers made videos saying that its one of the best daily jdm sportscars. I can't even imagine one modified how bad it will run as daily. And the most of the discomfort comes from the clutch and gear shifter.
The MR 2 turbo owner said that every time he takes the car out of garage, the car try to kill him.
The Miata owner ( NA and NB mostly) that the car is horrible as daily car, not because of the soft or hard top (which people expect) but the suspension and how low you're to the ground. And in the highway a lot of people don't see you and its very dangerous. He said that the car is more as weekend toy for the mountain roads, rather than a car for the highway or city.
Surprisingly every european sportscars owners were using their cars as daily and they were really happy with it. So for me, in conclusion, JDM sportscars are way more radical and are very hard to use as daily despite the reliability. Of course there is excepcions.
Some excepcions: Honda S2000, NSX and Type R are perfectly fine as daily driver. And Mercedes AMG cars, specially the Black Series ones are way too radical for daily driver.
That said, I still love JDM sportscars but for me, most of them are overvalued. I think if we take the half of the value of current inflated JDM cars they can be a good buy, but as it is now its a No, no for me. Unless you're a dead fan of certain JDM car, its better to stay away from it. I rather buy Ek 9 swap it to b18 than buy a type R. I will save around 20k $ which is a lot and can be used for modifications. Also if you are gona buy a special car like those, its better to leave them stock, at least for me.

Now, they are 5k (for 320k mi), up to 17k, averaging around 12k. Cherokee XJs used to be under 4k easy but now they average 4-5k for ones that aren't totally junk and also up to 15k for nice ones with 100k miles. My attainable dream car was going to be the C6 Z06, which in 2017 you could get a nice one for 35k but many were in the 30's. Unfortunately the new car market has had a lot to do with used prices skyrocketing so it's really hard to tell what the true inflation value is or what it would be without the current market status. Everyone hears "used car prices are high because new supply is low" so all cars are being listed for higher, even if the demand (specifically for those cars) may not reflect as such. With that being said, price will be dictated by what people are willing to pay. I got my S2000 before this, sold it, and am currently searching for a 1st gen NSX. I don't understand the point being made that these prices will ever "crash", and much less return to what they once were. Obviously collectors and the wealthy see these cars as being worth at least roughly what they're going for now; why would this change? What economic force exists that will cause the prices of these cars to drop back down by 30% or more? The demand for these is absurdly high compared to how many there actually are, and unless I'm just missing something I see no one struggling in the slightest to sell these cars at these prices. We can say "oh, it's just a 90s Toyota, who would pay that much?!" but it's (unless I'm missing something) apparent that people are, and will keep on, paying that much.
Genuinely curious here. I want my doubt of this point to be wrong, but I just can't understand why a crash is inevitable.
Sidenote, I'm not talking about car prices in general, those are obviously inflated by insane supply shortages in the new car market and they'll probably fall a little (though not *crash*) once microchip manufacturing is on track again.

The latest issue of Car and Driver just hit newsstands. After you wade through to the back page, past the (at this point inevitable) breathlessly positive reporting on electric trash, you find a mini-guide to buying a Z32. In it, they mention that pristine twin turbos can cost over $60K now. That brought to mind two of their previous mini-guides: the one where they said an LS1 Camaro could go for $20K, and the one where you said you could get a decent Aston Martin V8 Vantage in the 40s. I've also heard - not from them, but from others - $60K+ for a Mk. IV Supra Twin Turbo, starting prices of $20K for an R32 non-GTR, and I think I heard $80K for an R34 GTR, though I'm not sure where that number came from given that the R34 isn't US-legal yet. Now, to me, every car I just mentioned, except the Aston, is a $10K-15K car. I was thinking that the GTR34 could be worth $20K or maybe even 25, but then I remembered how it got shown up by a Chevy Cobalt and I'm like... nah.
The same thing is happening with tuners that happened to muscle cars. People get a little older, have a little more disposable income, and suddenly they're willing to massively overpay for their dream car. Eventually, the performance-per-dollar ratio ceases to pencil out, and the car becomes a collector's item, too nice to abuse without feeling guilty for it. And as the supply of the older muscle cars continues to dry up, previously reliable escapes from their price insanity - pickup trucks, 4x4s, the "post-muscle" cars of the 1970s and 1980s - are starting to join them.
This wouldn't be such a problem if the authorities weren't doing everything in their power to deny the car hobby a future; eventually, a new batch of desirable cars would appear and the cycle would repeat itself. But now it's all about "muh poler bearz" or "muh safety"; EVs and killswitches are being rammed down our throats without our having any say in the matter, and since maybe 2008 there has been a major polarization in the way vehicles are built which has seen non-"sporty" cars become as deliberately boring as possible. There are still some performance/fun-to-drive bargains out there, but the problem is, they tend to be the kind of car that doesn't have and never will have much aftermarket support, often for good reasons... or not. The Chevy Cavalier and Cobalt (and their rebadges) are a heap of fun to throw around, but they've been stigmatized by the Internet Car Enthusiasts as being absolutely worthless because blah blah interior materials blah blah blah torsion beam blah blah specific output, and many of the remaining Cavaliers in particular are in rough shape. The XV10 Toyota Camry has been mentioned as a "hidden gem" - but come on, it's a Camry, it was never going to have much aftermarket except for maybe some body kits back when that was a thing. The Chrysler K-bodies and derivatives of the 1980s and 1990s just plain weren't saved.
The car hobby is going to have to be inventive to survive from this point onward. We have to be able to see the potential in every (ICE) car, even ones that have zero racing pedigree or sportiness in general to start with.

Nowadays (least in my area) the cheapest DE's are now closer to $7k-$8k, $9k+ plus if you want a manual. I made money on my 2007 350z as I've consistently checked prices over the past while. I feel like most 90s JDM cars are becoming a classic that's why they shot up in price. It's even crazier where I live with the hype and the new law state a ban on importation of any used cars, for example, a Honda/Acura NSX costs around 60-100k(I'm not sure) but here it costs 300k for one. Despite that, some cars are still way overpriced, something like NA Miata or 200sx, sure it might be cool and all but definitely not worth their price rn.

Would definitely like to see a video on American sports car inflation.

All I remember was that the R32 Skyline was $25,000-$30,000 back in 2019. Idk what it was in 2017 though.

I've got my E89 Z4. I'ts a great car and people aren't going crazy over them yet. I wouldn't swap it for any of the cars that you mentioned. The straight six is frickin' awesome!!!

Even cars that used to be cheap are getting expensive. Any ‘93-‘95 MR2 Turbo won’t go for under 20k, when you could get them for like 5k 5 years ago

Regardless of what people think they are worth what they are advertised for and what they sell for are usually entirely different figures. In Australia the market seems to have peaked and the same cars are being advertised for many months unsold.

Here in Australia the prices for V8 Holden Commodores are ridiculous now. I bought a VE SSV Commodore with manual transmission at the beginning of 2020 with 185,000km on the clock for $15k. Now you are looking at paying $25-30k for the same car. I’m just glad I got in when I did before the prices went ballistic.
