Yep, used to have one of these years ago. The bent pins making contact w/o a cartridge in seems to make the R5 behave as if one is inserted, therefore disabling all others. It's the reason it won't work if try to plug in more than one cart at a time.
I bought a “broken” Retron 5 about 5 years ago for $60 CAD and it was having the same issue with the SNES port. I had a parts SNES laying around so I swapped the Retron Port for the Nintendo brand Port and it works great now. Only trouble is that the Nintendo Port sticks up a bit higher and the doors couldn’t open, so I had to remove them. I do with the quality control on these was a bit better. I actually love the concept, but those ports are awful.
Yeah I appreciate this one a lot and only type when it's worth typing about and here's why...Might be Novel sized comment but I don't really care. Anyway, My Father was a pinball and arcade game tech and repair man way back in the day, well at least before I was born. He wished he could have stayed more on the video games side of computer programming and more. Yet he still moved his way up to being the top programmer building controls for a decent known place. He read code, wrote code and I really wish I could have taken more of his brain with me before he stroked out, That way I wouldn't have to watch TH-cam till I get a halfway good idea of whatever I'm looking for. That being said, THANK YOU, this happens to be one of the ones that had been helpful and knowledgeable in a quick amount of time. 👍 I do love learning a little more whenever I can. ALSO, I'm sure willing to give credit where credit is due. I also appreciate you taking the time to bring some knowledge to the world.. Some things aren't always easy to find. So many other forums and other search engines and sometimes I can't always find the answer quickly. I believe everyone's time can be precious and to be used when not sleeping(obviously). Although, some fiixem issues will keep you up at night. Again thanks!
This happens because the data lines of all slots are tied together. Why? To cut costs. If you short the data pins on one slot it simply shorts it on all of them, that's why they don't work. If they used different data lines for each slot this wouldn't happen and it would allow more carts to be inserted at the same time and select which one you want to play from the main menu. But carts are generally the same: a rom, a ram and a region lock chip. The pinout is different but the way data is read from them is the same. So all they did is connecting the data pins together in each slot so it doesn't matter which one you use, it uses the same data lines to read the game data. That's why you can only have one cart inserted at a time, if there's more they both would send data and the retron would be confused.
The way to fix this is when you first get your retron 5 bend the nes connectors close together and they will stay even and never get out of place like this. I have a original nes that i bent the pins when i first got it and it has worked every time.
Hi. Thanks for sharing. Please put more information on the subject and the description, otherwise it looks like clickbait. Maybe you can describe the problem like "Retron 5: Bended Pins on any port may made all ports unreadable. " On My case my Retron 5 is bricked. I still need some time and information to make it work again. Regards
Bricked how. A brick may need your rockchip set flashed which is much harder with windows 10. You have to change a reg file for the gui to flash it lol
*WARNING!* If you plan on doing what he's saying in the video be *REALLY* careful. I tried that and just broke it, must have scratched or bent something, I don't know. Now I an get a new one. At least I would say that if I had the money to get a new one.
I know a terrific solution to this problem. It's one that more people should try out... Sell it on Ebay and use the money to buy a RetroFreak or something that ACTUALLY works! 🤦♂ I have no more time for excuses from the Retron 5 and no one else should either. 😉
That's a great idea. The problem is that I have no idea where to get one of those. I looked on the offical site, it just said they're out of stock, ebay has none and I have no idea where to look anymore. XD

Well. I just picked my retron 5 up now. And i will keep this inmind. Thankyou
dude thanks for making this vid. I only played nes games not realizing how to fix. back to the grind on robocop vs terminator on genesis.
Its good to know that. Ive had mine about 7 years. Thanks.

I didn't have any problems with RetroN5, but I watched it anyway.
Even retron doesn't want to play lousy home alone lol
I cannot believe this worked. My shit was reading no games and this was also the issue. How can something like this keep the whole board from working
I bet the nes port is bridging pins together.
Mine literally stared white screening for no reason wish the build quality was better
Hello Happy New Year... Hey dude, Do you have any solution, my Retron 5 console went black, when I tried to put the new firmware

@@yeolemillinial8295 For what I read I need to use Windows Vista to recover the Retron 5.
@@MartinIturbide there is a way to do it in win 10 too but you have to edit a reg file in windows
@@yeolemillinial8295 please let me know any link to check it out.

Very interesting
Use dielectric grease
What is that meant to do just curious? and where should we apply it? Does it actually work?

@@nbHawkeye There has to be a better replacement than a Retron 5. The thing is so haphazard it's a joke.
