I don't watch McAfee a ton so I didn't know who that guy was nor that he was doing a bit. I had the draft on, was kind of only half listening until the Pats pick and when he dropped that "he'll be a hall of fame quarterback if he sits for 4, 5, 6, maybe 7 years" I finally figured it out. I laughed out loud at that one.
I wonder at what point Bill starting thinking "Who the heck are these guys".

I think the opposite approach was taken.
He saw the opportunity to be in the spotlight when all the real NFL fans are watching. Perfect scenario too. In an environment he’s not known for being in AND he crushed it. Not only was his performance great and down to earth, he wasn’t that old wise man who doesn’t know when to stop talking.
Not to mention all of the guests who made it a point to show support for him, his career and his influence.
He loved it.. He asked to be a regular on the show at the end of the show and my heart was sooo happy … Also seemed like he really liked the Mad Mel bit

I would have taken Jayden Daniels first he has proven it against some of the best pass defenses. The Pac 12 pass defenses sucked Oregon at 51 was the best in the league a majority of the Big 10 and SEC pass defenses were better. Those poor pass defenses made Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, and Bo Nix look significantly better than they would otherwise.

He probably says the same kind of stuff about every player regardless of draft order. Then it's a matter of whether they listen and focus on improving the areas that matter. I always liked that Bill and company took overlooked players and developed them so well.

Usually it’s the college fans that overhype their QBs but who knows. To me it looks like his ceiling is high but he’s not ready to get thrown into a bad situation immediately and that’s exactly what is happening
Bill did the Patriots a solid by saying how he would develop and work with this rookie qb. He didn’t sit there and say ‘oh, he’s great, you don’t need to worry about anything’. Truth in the booth.

Thanks for the great draft coverage!! I had a blast watching! great analysis, solid interviews, and honestly it was kinda refreshing seeing the draft clock not be treated with so much urgency. From the analysis, I really liked film showing player's strengths and weaknesses. Hardest thing to watch was you guys suffering in the cold first half of Rd1...oh, and that 'magician' - he was not the vibe. Coolest moments for me were watching Bill and Barry fangirl over each other, and Aaron going live right after the jets pick.
Mel making Belichek laugh at the end of this clip was one of my favorite moments from last night 😂

Ironically, he's the number one thing that sports media needs: a guy who can substantively break down a player's strengths and weaknesses. He's not hyper optimistic like the others on the panel, he calls it honestly and realistically.

This show was so fun to watch last night. Had the crew and then they added Bill to the mix… and now we get to watch Bill every Monday this fall too im freaking stoked

Gotta respect the fact Bill was on the program. I love Pat and the guys, but they can be very in your face and I wasn't sure how Bill was going to react to this. He's a treasure trove of football knowledge so every time we get to see him and its not behind a NFL podium its a treat.

I love Bill being in the media now. Everyone thought he’d be boring but they based that off of his press conferences. Bill just hated answering stupid questions from the media. When it comes to talking about the game seriously, he is a wealth of knowledge and I love listening to him. I remember when I reporter asked him a serious question about the importance of long snappers and having specialists for punting and place kicking and Bill went on for 15 minutes about all of the nuance of the special teams positions, and it was fascinating.

Unpopular opinion: The Patriots are going to have a legendarily bad couple seasons under their new head coach before letting him go, and the Patriots are going to become the new Browns.
As a lifelong New England fan, I can see this happening. But the mindset would become; scrappy underdogs/cursed - team, but when we finally win we’ll do the whole dynasty thing again. 😂
Kraft is all in on the DEI train and will be more involved in the day to day in a final attempt to shape his legacy for the NFL. This is going to be an absolute disaster of a decade. Take the points all season long.

Seems like no one actually acknowledged Bill's fantastic critical analysis on Maye and just went back to "yeah freak athlete!" "year I golfed with him!"... I really hope Bill stays in this punditry role for a long time because it's so refreshing hearing a critical analysis of a player rather than overhyped loud shouting for no reason.

Belichick being part of draft coverage and breaking down player film is incredible insight into truly one of the handful of greatest talent evaluators in NFL history. That said...I do sense he held back on analysis because he's not quite ready to give away all his secrets since he wants to get another head coaching job somewhere next year.

It’s really nice having Bill giving his input because he doesn’t parrot the same thing as everyone else. That’s something that drives me crazy about the media - group think. No one wants to be wrong so they just say the same thing and don’t actually review tape and make a real evaluation. The other issue is much if the media don’t know what they are watching and Bill does. He’s been awesome so far,
