I remember renting The Keep on VHS back in the 80s. Basically rented it "blind" and ended up really enjoying it. Incredible atmosphere! Great to see The Keep finally get a proper physical media release by Vinegar Syndrome!
I ended up renting it with some friends at college from a small video store that had a bunch of gems. Loved the atmosphere of it. So glad Vinegar Syndrome finally released it 😁
The Keep is so criminally underrated!!! Although I wish to God that a Director's Cut will pop up one day, I thank God for what I have. Happy New Year!!!
@@TheRealLucidNightmare When I say the studio butchered it I am not joking, they cut the film down from 210 mins to just 96 mins. Is it any wonder many characters & sub plots just disappear part way.
that is an editing massacre. No wonder it feels so dreamlike. I knew that it was cut up a bit by the studio, but I didn’t realize how much. It would be a dream to check out the directors cut.
@@TheRealLucidNightmareSadly the effects man died near the end of production so the final confrontation is minus most of its effects. No wonder Mann wont even discuss this film.
In my personal opinion, it is time for a sequel. A modern sequel, not a remake, A sequel that ties back to the events of this movie. Yeah, that's wishful thinking, but not in today's Hollywood.
I saw this movie back in the Eighties and was not the least bit impressed. I discovered later that Paramount made extensive cuts to the movie making it nearly impossible to watch. 'Suits' know little or nothing about movies. They know even less nowadays. Pathetic.
One of the earliest rentals we got on VHS back in '83 or so. Strange movie but I really liked the concept of the story.
The concept really is intriguing. Motivated me to hunt down the novel and I’m in the process of reading it.
@@TheRealLucidNightmare cool, didnt know it was based on a book.
the movie follows the book pretty good!
Nice! I was hoping the novel had a similar feel.

Editing quality is insane, love the intro
Thanks so much! 😁
You have the best intro ever. Long time follower here, happy new year.
Never seen this film BTW, but meant to. I'll check it out.
Thanks so much! Hopefully when you check out the movie, you enjoy it. 😁
Great review ! Happy new years !!!
Thanks! Happy New Year!!!!!
Another fine job😊
Thanks David!
Just received my copy haven’t watched it yet. I haven’t seen this since I was a kid. I can’t wait. Great review as usual!
Thanks! Hopefully you enjoy it and it holds up to your memories as a kid. I enjoyed it a lot more since seeing it in college.
Saw this on the big screen with the sound track blasting on the cinemas stereo's, awesome.
Sadly looks crap on video and was butchered by the studio.
That would have been awesome to experience!

That would be amazing! I’d be all in.
The keep is the first book in a series of novel with the evil returning and the forces that fight including Repair Man Jack
The book is so much better
The creature at first appears human and shakes the Professor religious faith .
Sounds pretty wicked! Excited to check it out for myself 😊
