Not the camera cutting to Fern when Ryan says "we're not pro child death" XD you guys were so funny in this, love seeing you together discussing horror!
Please do more videos together! I love hearing from Ryan and his insight/views of these films. Not to mention I love seeing you two play off each other and how natural these videos turn out! :)
The lack of reaction from 3 kids when the mom "died" took me right out of it. It was very hard to buy them as her children. I'm a full grown adult and when my mom passes, I'll be hysterical. Let alone all 3 children amounting to a few tears between them.
I loved it personally. I do think they could have done a LOT more with the setting though. Have a massacre that goes through multiple apartments on multiple floors, give us the chaotic frenzy that they only hinted at with the peephole. Instead they went for a more intimate family story, and I don't hate that choice but I was left wanting more.
damn Sarah ripped into this movie lol. i was quite entertained and i loved it. the opening scene made my jaw drop. I thought the high rise building concept created a scenario where they were actually trapped rather than using the detox thing as a plot device to keep them in that cabin. Thought the main deadite was freaking terrifying, especially the line "open up now"! Her acting was super. We thought the gore was a lot of fun. We weren't a fan of the mega deadite creature at the end, but loved the wood chipper idea.
I agree on every point! The apartment setting was somehow scarier to me because there's LITERALLY nowhere else to go. At least in the woods, you can take off in any direction. They were trapped hundreds of feet above the ground 😭 Not that it would make a difference in the end regardless 😅 but this setting made it more realistic imo. & YESSSS she was SO creepy. "Mommy's with the maggots now" 👹 PLEASE STOP

I really like this one, though it made me kinda sad. SPOILERS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I thought it was gonna be more like the 2013 one, and the mom was going to somehow come back to normal like Mia did. When she didn't, and then the sister and brother transformed into Deadites too, I felt bad for the poor little girl. She lost almost her whole family.
I thought this was the Hollywood studio Conjuring-verse version of an Evil Dead movie. It wasn't "bad", but it was a very generic script and the line delivery from the child actors was very awkward. This whole movie felt manufactured and it didn't go nearly as hard with the gore as the trailer made it out to be. I thought the actress playing the mom carried this entire movie on her back, I was hooked to the screen whenever she was on, but with the rest, I was kind of just waiting for the next scene. Also, they didn't do nearly as much as they could've with the building setting since everyone was inside the apartment the entire time.
100% agree with everything. I was so disappointed because it just didn’t have that special Evil Dead essence I was looking to see. Side note, hands down one of the cutest babies ever and I request the future reviewer be in every video 😂
Omg! I usually don't add comments on TH-cam videos, but I can't help myself being distracted by your baby!!! THE OUTFIT! BEAUTIFUL BABY! Congratulations on being parents!
I agree with yall so much - I think i had way too high of expectations. I ALSO thought deadites were going to like take over the city!!! everybody in the complex turns into a deadite and the protags are trying to fight their way out! The broken stairs were a cop out!!!! It felt generic, like it could have been any sort of possession movie but it just so happened to be picked up by the Evil Dead franchise. I couldnt get over the way the book was found... and how the boy was just blasting that shit on his DJ equipment and nobody ... came in and told him to stop? ?? ? it just fell short for me and I'm glad I'm not alone I swear everybody else seems to think this is the best horror movie released recently
Mother turning against her children- I like that twist. The film says that there were three books,so I think it is easy to asume that Ash and the rest of the group found one of them.
Dude I totally agree with u guys about the expectations being so high from the 2013 Evil Dead that Rise was a lil underwhelming for me! 2013 had better writing, acting, characters, gore, pretty much topped Rise in every way which is unfortunate! I wanted to love this movie and it ended up just being a decent movie for me!
You’re so cute 🥰💕💕 hope you and the baby are doing great 💖 thank you so much for still putting in time and energy into your channel for us. I know how hard being a new mother can be, let alone being a TH-camr as well ✨✨✨ you’re so appreciated 💖
Loved the sisters! The kids not so much. Didn’t care for the neighbors :/ I think I would have loved it more if it stayed in the lake setting from the beginning of the film
I might be one of the few here that mostly agree with your review of this. It was fun and I'm glad I saw it, but it could have been so much better. Dwelling on things that didn't matter (like the eye horror scenes and the overlong part near the end I won't spoil) while zipping through stuff that could have been better (like the cheese grater we saw for like 2 seconds) was an odd choice. Parts felt shoehorned in too. But again, it was fun. Much like Sarah, I'd watch it again. It just should have been better.
This movie was SO good. It had such a good story and good camera angles. It was a true good horror movie. And I’m a big horror fan so it was perfect. And I loved all the gore. I even got some tears too. Amazing movie 9.5/10 so close to 10/10 I highly recommend

I’m so happy to see someone else not raving about this movie from the rooftops. I had such high expectations because of rave reviews going into the movie but I was so underwhelmed? People were even saying it was more disturbing that Terrifier 2 so I was expecting A LOT 😂 It was just ok to me. I’ve never been a huge Evil Dead fan anyway but I did really enjoy the 2013 movie. I have to agree that it was very random and all over the place and rushed and messy. Shoutout to Fern though, need her as a guest in your videos more often she’s a natural!!!!
I agree with most everything said. It kinda feels like they tried to combine the camp of the originals and the horror/ gore of the remake but the camp wasn't quite there enough for me. If I want a silly experience I'll watch the originals or the tv show and if I want dead (heh) serious and super gory I'll watch the 2013
I love seeing adorable little horror fan families! ❤ also great review without giving too much. I agree about the cheese grater scene, could have been done soooo much better!
Okay, I love this style of review!! Having your partner there really adds to the flow of the convo, and having baby Fern there is also kinda oddly grounding 😅 love it! ❤️
I read the full script of Evil Dead 2013 before it came out. Something that got changed in the movie which really dissappointed me was the scene of the rise of the abomination, the Mega Deadit. The abomination was written as an amalgamation of all the dead characters stuck together. I assume they just couldn't create it without usung CGI back then and now they just put it in Rise which also made sense due to the family theme of the movie.
Just got to watch this film, and immediately came to check out your review. Could not agree more with these thoughts. The writing of this film was so bad that the action felt more of a “look at this shock factor, don’t pay attention to anything else.” Love the format with Ryan and Fern also there throwing their ideas out, Fern definitely had some great points :D
I love that your little one is already a great youtuber. Amazing eye contact, grabs your attention instantly, does cute shit when she feels is needed... 🤣🤣 I also loved Ryan's insights, you two are an amazing reviewing duo, want to see more of this!
I'm so glad to see someone else who has criticisms for this movie. I loved the opening scene so much, and I loved the mother deadite throughout, but the rest just didn't work for me. The setting was strangely isolated given its L.A. location, the bank vault explanation didn't really feel cohesive, and I just couldn't connect to hardly any of the characters (the kids especially). Plus, what was with the lame monster situation??? It wasn't a terrible movie, but I think generic was the perfect word for it. After the previous Evil Dead... Let's just say it had some huge shoes too fill, and I feel like it just totally missed the mark. Now, if they would have somehow thrown the mother deadite into the opening scene/setting and run with that, I think it could have been something spectacular. I was starting to feel like I was the only person who felt a bit let down by this one.
I actually agree even though I liked the movie overall. I wanted the entire floor of neighbours to be possessed and she was gonna have to mow them all down. But the budget was a mere 15 million so they couldn't do that
I really wasn't a fan of the movie. The same as you two, I definitely went in with high expectations and was pretty disappointed. I'd probably give it a 2.5 out of 5, as well. There were scenes and moments that I liked, a lot of things I didn't like, but overall I just wasn't a big fan. Not to mention I feel like they showed way too many of the really good scenes in the trailer, so there was really nothing left for me to look forward to? I will say that one of my favorite moments was when the younger daughter introduced her doll head on a stick friend and referred to her as "Staffanie" I laughed my ass off at that 😂😂
I completely agree on the Necronomicon being in a city setting. It’s weird. Imagine they get it from their cousin Mia from the 2013 film. Or even Uncle Ash….
Loved it but thought the writing / characters didn't make me truly care enough despite it checking EVERY box of my horror movie faves. I just didn't walk out fully satisfied with the whole experience. But that being said its still a SOLID film and loved that once it starts 1/3 through the terror never ends. I think I just liked the tone and writing of 2013 one. Rise felt a bit less organic story wise. But all the scares and gore was amazing I think the building could've been used more and the final reveal should've been shown more it reminded me of Junji ito but they don't show it enough I think.
I really liked the movie, but I do also agree with a lot of what you guys said. It felt to rushed. Felt like there were a ton of random people thrown in there with zero character development just to kill off. Also didn’t really get the flex of killing a bunch of kids in this one lol. Felt like there was also some untapped potential. They definitely should have made it longer. I do like though how it just got right into things in the beginning and was mostly non stop from start to finish.
I really appreciated Fern’s insight. She seemed to have a lot of thoughts on this movie & pointed out some key elements. All seriousness, I love how this was a family review for a horror that was about a family lol. I had the same exact thoughts as you did. Especially with the “oh this will come in handy later on” scenes. I was over it lol. I want to point out that Stephen King is a giant fan of Evil Dead. I think he says it’s his favorite franchise & he’s the reason Evil Dead 2 got its budget & was made so I feel like all of The Shining homages were a nod to him in a way. I’m just guessing that that’s why though. Great review, love your videos! You’re a huge inspiration to me.
THANK YOUUU, it’s like nobody cares about a well written narrative anymore and all they’re interested in is visuals, I’m scratching my head at how some people are calling this elevated horror and to each their own but damn, while entertaining it is flawed
It's not as good as 2013 but it's fun and gory. The foreshadowing ruined it for me. Too much of it!Also when I saw it at cinema I fully didn't understand the first person camera in the parking lot at the end. Like how was it still there? I assumed the cat from the vent was attacking which would've been the most hilariously camp way to end this. Like I know it'd be dumb but I wanted that cat to attack so bad 😂
I was on the fence about the gore in this one. They hyped up that cheese grater, even tweeting images of the grater and putting it on a poster..but it was one swipe down the leg and it wasn't even that damaging. However, the ending kinda made up for it even though I wish they showed more of the creature instead of hiding in the dark. I'm guessing it didn;t look very convincing so they just kept it in shadows. The overall final act was good, though. I agree about the writing, it wasnt that great. The dmons didn't have that classic Evil Dead feel to them. They weren't evil enough, not witty enough...IDK, they were just off. I liked the building itself, I thought it looked pretty cool but I think it was underutilized. 3/4 of the movie happened in the single apartment. Like you, I didn't hate it and will likely watch it again. I just wanted a bit more. I'm hoping the fact that it brought in a ton of money will allow them to hire a better director and cast for the next one.
I completely agree, now its over hyped but then I looked at all the recent horror films and thought, yeah in comparison to scream, Halloween etc.... its this generations "top tier" i really wished Fede Alvarez would've done the sequel, which he's beem planning since he finished 2013's
This movie really didn't do it for me. It's so crazy to see so many people love it so much! The cinematography was gorgeous, and the sound engineering was great as well, but the writing and characters were SO bad. I didn't care for them AT ALL. The gore was another huge disappointment for me. Yeah, there was a lot of blood, but it wasn't gruesome, it was just a lot of blood and that's it. It didn't make me squirm or want to look away, just bleh. Blood. Boring. With the children, it felt like a Goosebump movie trying to imitate Evil Dead. It's actually a breath of fresh air to hear opinions that are close to mine, I was starting to feel like a fish out of water with this one haha.
Evil DUD. I think the thing that bothered me most about ’Evil Dead Rise’ was the outdated stereotype that women that hold jobs in the music industry are burnouts / women who don’t want children are heathens / women who work in the tattoo industry live in a broken home Next…
Love this review, and love seeing Ryan and Fern! I haven’t seen the Evil Dead movies but thought about seeing this one bc I thought the title screen looked really cool. I’ll probably just wait for streaming now
Trust me this is a must see movie in theaters, it just ad more to the whole experience, im glad i didnt listen to reviews before giving this movie the fair chance that it deserves. Its Top tier.
Wow I’m very surprised you guys didn’t like the acting, specifically the youngest daughter, I thought she was stellar as young as she is and liked her character a lot, specially Staffney! 🤩 I will say I agree about the gore and kills, I don’t think there was anything that really stood out or was iconic. I think the Cheese grater COULD’VE been the stand out, but it’s really such a minor moment and very over hyped. I also agree the books placement was very weak and felt VERY random. A bank vault? Like what? Why is all this stuff hanging up? The crosses and statues, how was it a bank but also had all that stuff hanging? Idk felt very random and not very thought out. Besides that I think this was a great entry, and as a hardcore Evil Dead fan I was pleased. I just wish 2013 got this kind of reception, I think fans were so hard on that movie, and that’s why we didn’t get the planned sequel it deserved. Wish we could get a follow up someday. Jane Levy is fantastic and I want her back!
I 100% agree. I thought the little girl was really good! The fact they couldnt really explain why either kinda made the whole criticism kinda dumb. I really dont like this dude to be honest. He seemed way overly critical for no reason at all.
The director for the 2013 movie confirmed that it's not a remake, so Ash and Mia could be in a future Evil Dead movie. I think they said they want to make more Evil Dead movies.
It can all fit when you take the TV show into consideration with the whole time travel angle. Remember after Ash relives the ED2 timeline there is a scene where a woman discovers the book; she could possibly be the girl from the beginning of Evil Dead. I know it doesn't fit 100% but with the tangled canon of the other movies it can work.
It'd be a nice closing chapter for Evil Dead. Have all the characters and storylines, including those of the Ash vs Evil Dead series, all converge for one final showstopping finale. That could be fun.
so wonderful to see you guys all together :) thank you for being honest and real, this is absolutely one of my favorite youtube channels 3 years running 🧡

I totally agree with everything you guys said. I enjoyed it, but it left a lot to be desired!
But all the scares and gore was amazing I think the building could've been used more and the final reveal should've been shown more it reminded me
of Junji ito but they don't show it enough I think.
I enjoyed it so much, less gory than the 2013 film but scarier.
Fern made me laugh. Nice review. You three covered everything.
Fern IS AMAZING 😻 Such a beautiful baby ❤
Lmao! Loved everything about this video! Please do more of these together, and definitely with Fern! ❤
I loved this movie. I appreciate your take on it though. Fern is adorable!
Evil DUD.
I think the thing that bothered me most about ’Evil Dead Rise’ was the outdated stereotype that women that hold jobs in the music industry are burnouts / women who don’t want children are heathens / women who work in the tattoo industry live in a broken home
Next…
fern being so clueless the entire time is such a mood
Love this review, and love seeing Ryan and Fern! I haven’t seen the Evil Dead movies but thought about seeing this one bc I thought the title screen looked really cool. I’ll probably just wait for streaming now
I'd say definitely watch it in a theatre. It was amazing and intense and a lot of fun. All the praise this movie is getting is deserved.
Trust me this is a must see movie in theaters, it just ad more to the whole experience, im glad i didnt listen to reviews before giving this movie the fair chance that it deserves. Its Top tier.
there was also a carpet with the shining pattern
Wearing that top around Fern is brave 😅
The cat survives. That's the only important thing ❤
Fern looks just like her mama 😍 What a doll! She’s giving me baby fever 🥵 Such a cutie 🥰
Also the “doesn’t mum look like the picture from the book” line or whatever the teenager said was so stupid I started laughing in the cinema
😂😂 “if you hear any weird noises, it’s our weird baby”
the cheese grater scene was so disappointing😭 I was expecting so much more of a scene based off how they were hyping it up
i’ve been waiting for this 🙌🏽
Your baby is absolutely adorable!!!
Wow I’m very surprised you guys didn’t like the acting, specifically the youngest daughter, I thought she was stellar as young as she is and liked her character a lot, specially Staffney! 🤩
I will say I agree about the gore and kills, I don’t think there was anything that really stood out or was iconic.
@@WoahLookAtThatFreak indeed it would - I'd happily watch that.
Let Ash have a final victory.
I love the full fam review!
Great review!! I also felt a little disappointed with this movie. I don’t think it would be a fun rewatch LOL
Oh wow I did not expect you guys to go IN on this movie LMAO. I loooooved it. It was so much fun. Definitely one of my favorite watches this year.
I love your green eyeshadow, so pretty!
Ok I'll need to watch again because I keep getting distracted by how adorable you three are 😍
