  • Hey Everyone!
    I finally decided to do a Gunprimer Raser and Balancer Review. Since doing the DSPIAE siren review a while back, I've gone back to traditional sanding for various reasons. Will the Gunprimer Raser and Balancer do better, or suffer the same fate? Let's find out!
    If you're looking for the Raser or the Balancers, these can be purchased at majinhobby.com, and using my discount code. "PT10" will save you 10% on your entire order AND have it delivered right to your door!

    Another well done video! I’ve been using the raser and balancer set for over a year now and it’s a powerful tool. It takes time to become proficient with it and get the desired results. It will shorten your time to remove nub marks though. I have an older set, with the raser file much thinner than the one you show. It’s good to reach smaller areas. Overall, a great product based on my experience. At times you will still need the sponges, but not so often. The builts on my videos were all done with the raser/balancer. Keep up with such informative and cool videos!

      Hey, thank you so much. I'm definitely keeping the sponges for other jobs such as custom work and seam removal, but I think this will improve overall speed with flawless nubs overtime. Thank you for your support. 😁

    I've been building for many years and I've tried just about every method of cleaning. My go to is just nip as close as you can (Don't NEED to do the 2 nip rule unless it's hard plastics or dark color) then sand with a medium grit and then high. I finish off by buffing it with my shirt or hoodie then it's virtually invisible. I got a cheap nail file with 7 different grits from Target and that usually lasts me for a good 6-10 months. Tools can matter but it's honestly how you use them and the skills you learn along the way that make it look good.

      Hey man. That's some great insight. I think for people who have built the repertoire and their own style and methods for clean up are pretty set and trust their process. But for newbies who haven't quite figured out their methods are are still learning, this can be a great tool to get them quality results faster.

      Absolutely! It's important to try out different methods and find what works for everyone. That's how we all find our style and flow ;D

      I love that mindset! Everyone's different so everyone's build style is unique. For me, my favorite tool is my hobby knife. 😆

    In my short time doing gunplay, this 2 product combo has changed my life. My most hated task is sanding and this makes it an almost effortless joy!

    For nubs I just usually cut as close as I can with a nipper, make the surface flat with a 1000 grit sandpaper(stuck with double sided foam tape to a stick). Then just scratch it with my fingernail to give it back it's shine. The key here everything is much faster with a good nipper (if godhand is too expensive then get a nanye for 1/10th the price).

    Great comparison! I am concerned that the Gunprimer set would not do well on concave surfaces - especially the glass file, it just would not be able to get inside of those curves

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joey! Great observation! I wouldn't use these for general sanding like I would the sponges. Concave surfaces are exactly the reason. I will say that the balancers can get in there with a little bit of finesse, but I'd rather save them specifically for nubs. Thanks for the comment and insight. 😁😁😁

      There a thiner version of the eraser as well

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While yes that is true, the sanding surface is still not as ideal for concave areas as sponges. The soft backing allows the sanding surface to conform better to a curve giving an even finish as opposed to a hard square. I had the same issue back when I was using metal files too.

    • @JoesGunpla
      @JoesGunpla 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PlamoTherapist I highly recommend Tamiya Pro Files, the curved 10mm file works very well for those concave surfaces

      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll probably continue to use my Godhand sponges for this, but that's a great recommendation! Thanks for sharing. 😁

    For my cheap Amazon nano glass file, I have a small cup of water and a paper towel. After I sand a part I drop the file in the water, keeps it clean between uses. And dab on the paper towel before starting the next part.

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was trying that with the Siren, but I kept getting plastic stuck in the etching that I needed to use a tool to get out. With the Raser, a dry toothbrush was enough.

  • @Mugen.Kouryu
    @Mugen.Kouryu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't think I'll ever be using the Raser, or any nano glass files for cleaning nubs.
    It's a bit hard to control for a heavy hand like mine. I prefer sanding sponges or sticks because of the finer control that it gives me.
    The Balancers seem great, though. Though if ever I'll get them, I'll use it along with Gunprimer's Sand Loop Flex.

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Allan! I can totally understand that. I used to be extremely heavy handed myself.
      I haven't had a chance to try out their sand loop flex, but give the Godhands or even Infini sponges a shot. I love them and they are very forgiving of our heavy hands. 😁

    Awesome comparison video once again! Raser+ definitely faster for general nubs. My only complain is that it cannot reach narrow area, if only they also put glass grits on the side it would be perfect for me.
    Are the balancer system of different material than sand paper?

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey dude! I remember you posted that on IG about adding grit on the narrow edge. That would be LEGIT!
      In regards to the balancers, I'd say they're basically sanding sponges. I don't remember the grits off the top of my head, but essentially you can make your own if you can figure that out. For the price point, I'd rather just nab a set of these. They're pretty darn cheap.

    How should one use the balancer without it breaking off? I’m on my last one from the 3 piece set since every 6 kits the balancer would kinda just shred itself off after sanding
    The product page says it can be cleaned with masking tape but this doesn’t seem to work on my end so it would be handy to point out how it should work

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Great question! The balancers aren't meant to last forever. The fact that you get through six kits per stick is actually pretty amazing. Instead of masking tape, I would use a microfiber cloth, but know that you're definitely getting more than I ever expected out of one stick.

    • @ryon5174
      @ryon5174 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PlamoTherapist I’m very reserved with it tbh, I’m just very concerned as to why they break even with the lightest movement on a piece
      Ty tho, I’ll try to get some cloth so the last one may be able to last longer

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has to do with the soft nature of the sponge. Any sort of hard angle is going to catch and rip at the soft material. If you want something a bit more robust, look into more traditional sanding tools like sanding sticks from Infini, or sandpaper with acrylic boards. They won't be as clean as these Gunprimer balancers and you'll have to get more grits to build up to the same finish, but I definitely think they're worth the investment, especially if you are painting or planning to get into painting your kits.

      @@PlamoTherapist yeah I do have a lot of other sponges and I think I stored the infini ones somewhere with my paints but Ty nonetheless - I’ll figure out how to deal with it once the last one breaks lol

    Sorry for being late, new to the hobby so catching up. I just purchased the siren and it hasn't arrived yet. But if I stick with sanding blocks/ sponges how often should you change out the sponges on average of course.

    • @PlamoTherapist
      @PlamoTherapist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude! Welcome to the family! Depending on the sanding tool and how much you use it will determine when you should replace it. My rule of thumb is to feel the used sponge and feel a fresh one. If it's significantly different, then I'll change them out. The God Hand sponges I use can last about 2 MGs

      Hey Donny. Anytime! And don't worry about the kit. Save it as a reminder of where you started. I still have a few of my first kits back into the hobby and let me tell you. I'm still proud of them because it shows my growth in this hobby just as yours will remind you of your own growth. Just remember to have fun along the way. 😁
