Setting the PCC Standard: Ruger PC Carbine

  • Suddenly, all things PCC are hotter than ever. Those unfamiliar with the pistol caliber carbine world won’t be able to avoid the platform any longer. Henry Repeating Arms’ new Homesteader was a surprise. Hi-Point Carbines are a budget steal.
    But it’s the long-produced Ruger PC Carbine that continues to set the bar in the PCC market. Here’s what you need to know about the repeater and its many variants.

      What is this "politics" that you mentioned?
      You mean things that affect whether you are allowed to own/see/touch your beloved pcc?
      Or whether you could even watch videos like this or comment on it?
      "Gosh", you are right. "Politics" at all, is just dirty, irrelevant, and we should ban it completely!

    I like the looks of the homesteader, but I wouldn’t trust it as much as I’d trust a Ruger PCC. It’d be nice to see a wood version of the Ruger.

    • @ImpactTurns
      @ImpactTurns ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They’re expensive, but there’s wooden stocks for the Ruger PCC out there. Woodshop Wednesday is a company that makes them for example.

    • @NotJOE420
      @NotJOE420 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Henry QC has been crap for at least several years, and their components are cheap and unreliable. Oh, and the wood on most Henry’s is soft and easy to mar with light use. Go with Ruger if you want something that works and won’t have to go back to the factory multiple times. And you won’t need a mortgage for a Ruger.

      The big down sides realistically are the weight(its not that heavy but the fluted barrel makes it pretty front heavy) and short sight radius

  • @redtra236
    @redtra236 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    No recoil seems like a bit of a stretch, its comparable to a .223 AR in my experience but not very bad. I have the base model and like it I too added a muzzle brake mostly just to reduce the risk of a bore obstruction since stuff can more easily get into the barrel without it. My main complaints are the unnecessarily heavy barrel(does it really need the cooling fins, they add so much weight), the short sight radius(remedied with a rear peep sight or red dot), and the field strip. It's not hard to field strip but they are numerous tiny parts that can easily be lost due to being non captive. They just fall out once you pull the bolt they are held in place by the receiver. I've got 2K+ rounds through it with very few stoppages though.

    When the Smith&Wesson FPC came out, I was like yes. But, I think The Ruger is more reliable. More functional. I own 3 Rugers, and a S&W AR15. So, no bias. Both are Great companies.

    • @JoeSmith-fu9yx

      I own both and they are both sweet shooters, only issue with ruger over 3+ years is the OEM extractor is garbage and I was replacing it every 1k or so. Finally bought the Mcarbo extractor and it’s going on roughly 5k rounds now. The FPC is no slouch though, very accurate and much much lighter, took awhile to get used to the mag release and lack of bolt release but that’s why we train. If I had to choose between the two I would probably go ruger just because the aftermarket upgrades are everywhere.

      it's rated at 1625 fps and offers fabulous penetration & has enough vel for effective secondary missile effect..ie bone/rib fragment dmg, ala the amazing, yet un-findable 7.62x25mm round.. I can't seem to
      find at what barrel length that 1625 vel occurs at? But..9mm's do top out about 16"..

    Love my Ruger PC Carbine. All the fancy rifles I have AK/AR and others whenever people go shooting with me because they're too damn cheap to buy their own guns everyone always loves shooting the Ruger the most. I used to have a bunch of people from Europe come over who of course are totally anti-gun at home love to go mag dump the 30 round Glock mag in the Ruger. I call mine AR style which makes purists angry but I don't care, it's great to have a rifle style gun that works with one of my pistols. Cuts down on hauling stuff around if up in the mountains camping, hiking, snowmobiling, cruising around in side by sides, whatever.

    The best part is it's "legal" most everywhere, municipalities have varying rules about what an "assault rifle" is. One can get in trouble with one or a combo of, pistol grips, folding stock, large magazines, muzzle breaks, etc.? This baby will not be confiscated or get you thrown in jail if stopped by a road block or traffic stop. This baby is clean for a survival kit gun crossing state lines. Plus 9mm will be a great barter item, trade a box of 9mm for couple gallons of gas "I just want to get home"

  • @middleagedbaldguy6774
    @middleagedbaldguy6774 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not to be that guy but I have one of the first Ruger PC9's. Unless they have done some redesign you need to replace about two thirds of the internals to get it to run reliably. I had a bolt face retaining pin shear off after less than 400 rds and the trigger group had unusual wear as well. Last round bolt hold open rarely works with ruger or glock mags and the feed ramp needed serious polishing for anything other than ball. Maybe I just got a lemon but I wouldnt trust it for home defense. Decently priced but once you start adding in a new trigger group and replacing every garbage retaining pin it can add up. Lastly, I have suppressed 9mm platforms that run cleaner. You can literally spoon crap out of it after a range day. It has a place but its at the back of the line.

      @espcustom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      perhaps they have improved it since ? good to know but so far it's one of the first comments of that kind that I've read about PC9s, which makes me wonder if yours could be more of a dud just like you said..

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I bought one in 2019 and haven't had any issues. I do think that the bolt face retaining pins look like a potential weak point but mine don't seem to have much wear after 2500 rounds or so. It does get a lot of sludge back in the action but I've let mine get really dirty with no issues. The field strip is easy but the tiny parts like the retaining pins for example can easily get lost so I don't recommend doing it i the field if at all possible.

    Does anyone remember the Marlin camp 9?
    9mm carbines have been around for a while.
    Magazine options are a great advance.

    Would it be safe to say that a carbine such as this would at least double the effective range of the same round fired from a handgun?

      Since you will hit what youre aiming at easily with factory sight at 100 yds, and I would bet out to 150 - I say yes

      Depends on the handgun but I would say more than double when it comes to most of them. It increases velocity by around 20% over a Glock 17 from the tests I did but mainly it becomes substantially more accurate when compared to shooting 9mm from almost any handgun.

    Don’t purchase certain high capacity guns from Big 5 sporting goods. They abide with the California state law.

      They don’t sell guns anymore first, second they don’t sell high capacity. It’s illegal in California. So not sure what you are getting at.

    I would not say there is no recoil. It kicks more than 223. The tungsten weight is simply there to allow Ruger to shorten the length of the bolt and therefore, the action, more to the size of a 1022
