You seem to be having some problems with public order as well due to conquest penalties and war-weariness. I would perhaps suggest building some guard houses to improve public order (just don't tear down any shrines). I'd then move into Lombardy, sack a few settlements, and sue for peace. Once you've got some breathing room, just re-invade them and hear the lamentations of their women.

Avaras are really freakin hard imo. "Initial Challange" of Normal while danes have hard is BS. Every other faction you meet hate you and will declare war on you, and heavy armor troops (like the lombards have) are really hard to handle.
Avars have an advantage over other factions. They are the only ones with Horse Archers. You can simply overcome the enemies Heavily Armoured units by using Heavy Shot for Infantry and Flaming shot for cavalry. The Horse Archers mobility is the key. Make sure you destroy the enemies skirmish javelin cavalry and light cavalry first .
Yeah your campaign seems way more laid back at the beginning than mine...even putting everything into public order first turn still caused rebellions faster than yours
You can't avoid rebellions in the beginning. Just upgrade the farms and religious order tech tree. Build plenty of Tengri temples and Wheat Farms. Have one army which can periodically raid Croatia and put down rebellions. Eventually there won't be rebellions any more and you can focus all your armies on Italy. Italy is the grand prize because it has high fertility meaning you accommodate the extra food cost for upgraded settlements.
The same voices again ruin the immersion and feeling of something new. They made new icons and graphics and thats cool, but they should make new voices aswel.

It's religion which causes the biggest public order issues. Just build more Tengri temples.
This might be a prelude to Medieval 3. I hope so because I still play Medieval 2 and would love a updated medieval game.

Actually they are pretty easy if u know how to use missile cav and light cav u want to exhaust enemy divide them and take them one by one
