As Danes against Avars bring no big axes or armored archers. Use cheap archers and cheap spears to dissuade lancers, the biggest threat. Don't ever turn your back to enemy static missiles and horse archers are difficult to use against spaghetti.
I'd like to see how this plays out on a map with a heavy forrest. Im sure theres loads of maps in atilla like that. Dont understand why its always played on near open maps.
I think there were many opportunities where the danes could have done better in this battle. You pulled your archers away too late in the beginning, obelix could have used rapid advance on his spears to catch all of your foot archers and there would have been nothing you could have done to prevent it.
Not the same Schiltron that the scots used but the vikings had a similar shield wall that was a 360 shield wall and also protected their top as well. I just labeled it schiltron because I don't know the term it was called.
Mithiras no, no they didn't, thats pure hollywood, or i guess bbc in some cases, but the vikings only had simple shieldwalls and pike phalanxes, the types of shields the vikings used are completely non-conducive to protecting your top in formation, besides all the "recreations" of the formations don't allow the ability to attack or move at all, even if it does stop cavalry, concentrated arrow and javelin volleys would rip it to shreds, and what would you do with it? just sit there? you cant attack so if you move up to the enemies when there is cavalry around you're just going to be surrounded

Anglo-Celtic Knight True and a non forrest map is the BIGGEST thing against the danes. They couldn't use the cover of the forrests to protect themselfs against all those arrows. And what was obilix thinking when he choose a huscarl general? zero missile block chance against a skirmish heavy faction. Just get a shit ton of armored archers(6 to 8), a companion general, 3/4 hirdswordsmen and 2 berserkers and the rest only spearmen. Put them in a box formation with the archers in the centre(ofcourse) and just skirmish with them until they have to attack. Also put your swordsmen and general in the very middle (because if the avar player wants to get a sneaky kill on the gen then give him a face full of flaming arrows) If the avar player brought swords (dumb choice as the avar) the fight him with your gen and swordsmen (berserkers can kill noble avar swordsmen every day of the week)
