But in real games, everything changes once there is actually a good defender guarding you and you can't just expect to be open off a screen all the time. Then you need some improvisation to get off your shot.

Watch a video on how Kawhi used to shoot at SD State, he threw the ball like he was inbounding a soccer ball. Chip England gets a lot of credit for fixing his shot (debatable because Kawhi was drafted before the lockout and did a lot of the work on his own), but basically he improved his mechanics and stopped heaving the ball from behind his head. It was a tiny change, but lead to him being able to shoot. How his coaches at SD State didn't see that is beyond me.
