I played high school basketball, but I was mainly a football player, and hardly practiced my hoop game. I just played pickup. I never realized that just an hour of practice a day might have been enough to play in college somewhere. Wish I had access to information like this when I played
Correct! You want to pivot into your shooting position- much like a catch and shoot. And remember- the main thing with this drill is focusing on the rim, finding your target, and dropping it in!
I love basketball and could never shoot. I watch so many video saying this same stuff. I figured it out very very late. I shoot with my feet. Yes feet! when you set your feet push off with the needed power to get the ball up and over the front of the rim. The key is to put enough arc and judge how the ball falls in and over the front of the rim. the key is to drop the ball in with a soft and on line arc. your feet starts it, your release sends it, and gravity and the arc makes it hit. practice your spots daily and in 2 weeks play a pick up game and only shoot from your spots. I want from 5 points a game to 21 easy. just need 2-3 weeks of practice.
Do not put your hand directly on the "bottom" of/behind the basketball when gathering. It should be slightly off center so that when you raise the ball (which naturally turns your wrist), the hand does end up naturally rotating and does in up on the bottom. Practice it slowly until you have a feel for where your hand should hit to accomplish this and you'll end up with a far more natural feeling shot that is easier to replicate.

I realized trying to play around with my form is I focus on squaring my shot to the net and focusing on my form. I focus on my form because sometimes the defender is blocking my eyes or I don't have a clear view of the net. I am always amazed when the ball goes in even though I don't see the net.
My method is to drop the ball onto the center of the hoop. Imagine a crosshair dissecting the rim. You want to drop the ball onto the point where the lines cross.
I used to try to visualize dropping the back side of the ball on the front of the rim, if that makes sense. I didn't want the ball to land on the front of the rim, just have the back part of the ball graze that inside of the front rim as it was dropping through. I always seem to shoot a couple inches far so it was usually a swish. But when I'd see that rotation stop as the ball grazed the inside of the front of the rim I knew I was on.
Stop trying to put your shooting hand directly under the ball and your wrist flexibility will be just fine. Watch some videos on curry shooting in slow mo. He starts with his hand under the ball but to the side and then as he gets past his set point and goes into the shot his hand goes directly under the ball. That’s how pretty much everyone should shoot
Trae has a different grip from Curry, Booker or Klay, but the idea is clear: you dont have to put your hand directly over the ball as you initiate your shot, because the hand change it's position as you raise the ball. Besides, it's more difficult to shoot well.
Yeah, that’s the proper way to shoot. If you have freakishly big hands like some nba players you can get away with having the hand directly under the ball. Almost no one with regular hands has the flexibility to shoot without their hand a little bit to the side without creating extra tension on their shot.
Your release should be just before the apex of your jump. If you shoot at the very top or in the way down you lose power generated by you legs. It would be like standing on a ladder and shooting without jumping
It gets me every time when people talk about finger placement, all of the finger placements shown are the same because the ball is a sphere. The line on the ball is just a concept only the follow through that matters.

I don't look at the rim from my angle, like straight ahead of me. That is an easy way to bonk it off the front. You only shoot consistently with it is because you’re used to it. I guarantee if you train yourself to shoot without a thumb flick your shot will be way more consistent in the long run.
Thumb flicks don’t push the ball one way or other. Something else is going on in your shot. Curry and kyrie use em. Your thumb is off the ball before you start shooting towards the basket.
@@kevinsutube1p528 which is exactly why they push the ball left or right sometimes. When you go up for a shot you have the ball centered in your shooting hand (every1 will vary slightly) your off hand vome off the ball first and when it does the thumb flick will move the ball while it's still in your hand. Then when you finally do release it bc remember this is all happening really fast, the ball can/will be more to one side or the other causing the missed shots left and right.
@@kevinsutube1p528 the only way that a thumb flick doesn't interfere with your shot is if you have your dominant hand off a little to the left/ right and the thumb flick balances it out. If your dominant hand is centered then yes it can interfere with your shot.

There is no need to aim IT cones by itself
You learn the technics to shoot then you Just need to remember how you scored
Im Not looking to the basket
I Always stay in 30 to 40 percent scoring nonmstter If Theres an opponent or im playing alone
Theres timelines where i Score 60 to 80 percent depending in the flow
Im Not looking to the basket
ITS Just a millisecond
Im Not thinking while throwing
If you concentrate on aiming IT will Focus you on the wrong Thing
You should aim AS a beginner
Then next step you should repeat the whole movement
If thats what you did you need to shoot from everywhere creating yourself to Score out of Balance and different situations
You can See that they all shoot Up to the Same positions
But the biggest Players have some Special moves and sbilties
IT comes from creating a Shot and handle or arm swipe they repeated knowing IT will Score
Sometimes ITS Other Fingers
Sometimes ellbow or the feet
To aim is Just for beginners
Also to hold the ball everytine in the Same way with the Groove or seam in Fingers wont Push your scoring
You need to firget IT and shoot the ball in every Situation
To hold the ball with the seam on the Fingers is for beginners and If you have the time to correct the Balls Position in your Hand vor This Safe scoring Shot
I did it with the seam AS a beginner it helped me
Then i didnt used IT i anymore i Just Relied on IT for Safe scoring
If you got big hands and you can Home the ball in one Hand you shouldnt Put your Lifetime in Shooting the ball only with a correct positioning in your Fingers
That will Limit your scoring

@@goku360100 ohhh so you mean the "center" of the hoop/ and not like... the net UNDER the rim, right?
@@ILBYes lol of course. If anybody aims for the net under the rim then how the hell can anybody regardless who it is including Stephen Curry even make 1 shot? lol
@@goku360100 Ha man I'm just going on what you said LOL. "I aim at nothing but the bottom of the net"- lol- you can see how that can be confusing! haha. I'm glad you don't actually aim at the bottom of the net!
I'm currently learning this In school 🏫 academy
Did you guys remove the beginners fundamentals drills video? I can’t find it anymore. Can’t find the intermediate one either.
I love your videos great job 😂😂🎉
Any thoughts on thumb flicks? I shoot more accurately on average with it, but sometimes it pushes the ball left or right.
@@smackdoe3626 not true.
@@kevinsutube1p528 the only way that a thumb flick doesn't interfere with your shot is if you have your dominant hand off a little to the left/ right and the thumb flick balances it out. If your dominant hand is centered then yes it can interfere with your shot.
