    Dead zone is 120 meters for ATMs.
    Though that´s only for game balance, lorewise they should not have ANY dead zone AT ALL.

      If PGI could implement the ability to switch ammunition types, then regular ACs, LBX ACs, ATMs, SRMs, LRMs would be a lot more flexible. (EDIT: and a lot more interesting)
      The only downside is, especially for ATMs, you would need to dedicate more tonnage and space to ammunition.
      Especially ATMs because they have High Explosive Ammunition (With a range similar to SRMs, might be a bit shorter range than SRMs, and doing three damage a missile), Standard Ammunition (which, if I remember correctly, have a range somewhere between MRMs and LRMs and do 2 damage a missile) and Long Range Ammunition (which I think has longer range than an LRM but only does 1 damage a missile).
      So in order to get the most flexibility out of an ATM launcher, you'd have to dedicate at least 3 tons and slots to ammunition.

    Range nodes on the Firepower tree don't increase your minimum range, my german friend. It's the Mech's size that's the issue - you need to fire at about 123 meters, not 120, due to its size.

      Building on the range thing: not only do they not increase min range, range nodes are actually really good for ATMs because they increase the max range for each bracket. With full range nodes you can be doing 3 damage per missile around 300m

    You can point upwards, armlock, then hold the torso reticle up while locking via the arm reticle. This will make it easier for you to clear the obstacles by making the ATMs go at a slightly higher arc.

      The ATMs are located in the side torsos not arms. So it would be point torso upwards while keep arm Tag traced on enemy. With “arm lock” off. You might be thinking of torso lock.

    This might be one of the scariest builds I've ever seen you run. Haven't even watched the video entirely yet and I can only imagine the chaos and destruction this mech will dish out.

    Can confirm this build still works post patch, you have to play your positioning very carefully and be careful not to overheat yourself. For alpha you're better off chainfiring them quickly to avoid shutdowns. The best matches I have ever run have been with a similar build to this.

    Yes! Madcat was my favorite mech back in mech assault on Xbox! The premier heavy mech in that game. It could out brawl anything with those PPC's 👍

      Man. Mechassault. I still play that with some of my friends. The alt. Version of the Atlas was the best. The gauss rifles and Hammer missiles were great. The simple days. Now it’s MWO trying to get the next build to work.

      You can do this build on the blood asp.....and get a bunch of MPL's to boot

    I only play mech warrior 5 since my computer couldn’t play MWO when it came out a few years back and i never bothered getting back into it. It’s really neat to see the huge difference between the 2 games. I wish there was the huge variety of mechs and weapons like in MWO but it is still a fun game all around, really nice to play with friends but kind of frustrating that enemy mechs don’t jam their weapons or overheat (without help from a flamer or ppc) the enemies seem way spongy for damage but it could be because the bots “optimize” armor for frontal protection and don’t have to worry about weight limits

    ATM Range is 120m - 270m = 3 Dmg per missile.
    The 180m minimum range you were referring to is for LRMs., ATM is 120m.

    Just think how deadly overloaded ATM--Dogs are with their decent manueverability and speed. They really rack up the damage if left alone too long. Love ATMs!
    In battletech, ATMs use separate ammo for the different range brackets though, no? MWO's seem to be some kind of weird multistage missile.

    i remember back in the day i had an Annihilator and had somehow managed to gets its alpha strike to rediculous levels and i could fire it three times in succession without overheating and shutting down. Each strike could wipe out even a madcat by hitting its legs. Cant remember which game it was and i also haven't been able to replicate it either.

    Best thing with atm carries is backstapping. One time I killed 3 mechs in 10 seconds :D
    9.00 it’s the power of massive atms. Shoot some salves and you have 1k damage :D

    I am running a similar build to this on the SNV-A. It has a lower max engine whose weight I put into more ammo and JJ and only 13 heatsinks in the engine. I feel the lack of bunny ears gives me some good longevity.
    And what others have said about how range nodes don't increase minimum range is accurate.

    Baradul, why do you have more armor in the right leg than in the left? Also, why would you run this build on a Mad Cat at all when you could run the Blood Asp that has basically the same thing but with ECM and a jump jet? Assuming someone has/can afford the Blood Asp version of this build, I don't understand why one wouldn't use that instead of this.

    ATM min range is 120m not 180m. That's Clan LRM. Also, 4x atm12 can do 144dmg not 192dmg.

      @@senectarius9685 our faction done this and dual ultra 20s on both super nova and blood asp have an advantage because of the dead zone directly in front of you when running atm, pretty sure Bara has done both because they have weapon bonuses.

    I think a mixed ATM/ERPPC build with JJ's will be more effective and versatile. mech.nav-alpha.com/#96835b34_MCII-2 still has a wicked alpha strike that you can truly alpha, and even pop tart dump it.

    You're going to do tons of damage but it's a lot of splash damage rather than concentrated damage. Your build can do a lot of damage to a mech without killing it.

      Likely around 20m, but honestly i wouldnt suggest a madcat for a new player; stick with a solid medium/heavy like a bushwacker or orion iic or crab. If you really want to try an assault go with a kodiak 3

      You have to learn how to position and shoot first, then move on to more advanced missile builds

      I actually have been practicing positiioning with um60l xl260 er llaser med laser small laser and flamer with two heavy machine guns. Its pretty fun actually, I can hit at a distance while supporting the big boys and shut down lights who try to be sneaky.
      All the trial mechs are no fun as they lack decent firepower and didnt spen my cadet bonuses very well when I first played this game a while ago.

    Missiles in this game make no sense. After arming, the missiles should do X damage because the explosive payload never changes lol but yeah, if they did make sense, they would be insanely OP

      The damage changes because they've rolled three missile types from tabletop that have varying payload sizes into one catch-all missile. There's ER, standard and HE atm missiles and they do 1/2/3 damage respectively and have different ranges. PGI decided to cut out having to carry three different bins of ammo to give more flexibility to the weapon

    I hate how those pods count as your side torso when they're clearly OMNIPODS that should be completely separate from the rest of the mech. So dumb and the biggest nerf for clans across the board. Super dumb.

    You are so bad with atms ,no corner shots ,you dont launch them in the air .Once you get a lock on you can do whatever you want ,if you look up your missiles will go up instead of flat down .
    ATM's are missile that you can do so much more than just lock it and release.
    Lrms used to be like that now they are just dumbed down.Before you had to adjust the distance to compensate for terrain in some maps to hit your target behind cover-not many people did that but ones that knew how to hose down enemy 24/7 and not stand with lrm boats on 1000m away did 1000+ dmg almost every game.

      I wouldn't call over a thousand damage and 2 pretty strong wins "bad". But i agree you can do alot more with them if you bank them up when firing. Got to bare in mind though, you can focus the damage alot better if you get a direct horizontal shot. Was that what Bara was doing? no idea, but it's still something to consider.

      They mega nerfed the lockon mechanics several patches ago to prevent the exact mechanics you are talking about. unless it changed in the most recent balance pass you haven't been able to do that with ATMs for years

      @@Mr.Buttons928 I tried them out shortly after watching this video, you can definitely arc ATMs over by firing them into the air, you have to be quick though to maintain lock on, but it definitely works, and works well. As of today.
