I hope Hiromu Arakawa is so proud of herself for making this series. It's amazing. For me, it started a lifelong friendship, it inspired my art, and most of all it has a way of explaining death that allows me to understand how valuable life really is.
One of the greatest shonen, the reveal of the meaning of All is One and One is All is one of my favorite moments in the series too, the way Arakawa ties the world and universe directly back with Alchemy is amazing and really adds credence to it being considered a science and natural part of this world.
“Fullmetal Alchemist is just an average shonen with nothing special about it” racism and the circle of hatred, the perceived value of a human life, inevitable corruption in positions of power (depicted symbolically in great detail through the seven sins), man’s inhumanity to man, trickle down human suffering, struggles unique to the lower class and the weak, equivalent exchange/karma, the causes and lasting effects of war, science vs. religion, the power of selflessness, the importance of having connections, humanity’s willingness to prevail, grief and accepting the loss of loved ones, the strength and importance of knowledge and experience, the morality of nationalism and loyalty, all is one one is all… BRUH

FMA has so many great things about it. Great Story, Great Characters, Great Villains, Great Ending, Great Dub, it's just amazing. Also Brotherhood's fourth opening is my favorite opening of all time, It's so damn good!!
FMA is literally the most perfect shonen story to me. A perfect fleshed out cast of characters, a thought out magic system, fight scenes that don't drag out for too long, amazing world building, etc. Etc. Fullmetal Alchemist (the manga, and Broho) is my all favorite manga, anime, possibly even thing. The Brotherhood anime ranks at no. 1 on my top 5 list, Berserk being 2nd, and Attack on Titan being 3rd. I will say without a doubt, Berserk is OBJECTIVELY better than FMA, in art, his character writing, in plot, etc. FMA being no.1 for me comes from the fact that it had a lot of impact on me as a person, it was the anime that got me into working out, to do more hard work. The fun I had with it was immeasurable, also has more memorable characters that each feel like an actual person *cough* Attack on Titan *cough*.
I use FMA:Brotherhood as a baseline when searching for good or potentially great animes: Multiple Storylines, that advance the main Story. Fleshed out primary and secondary characters Cool abilities Lore Fight scenes Comedy, etc. Not to mention pacing, lessons, etc.
Fullmetal Alchemist is my favourite manga of all time and Brotherhood is my all time favourite anime ever as well as my favourite TV show. Arakawa is an incredible genius with manga storytelling and she made one of my favourite pieces of entertainment ever with both the manga and Brotherhood.
Fullmetal alchemist is my favorite series by far, the characters are so unique and memorable and the story is as close to perfect as a story can be in my opinion. I also love the "fullmetal heart" message in the story. It shows what it means to be human and the limitations, but also what humans can accomplish with determination and bonds. The series shows the characters dealing with all kinds of emotions and makes the viewers feel them too. It really made a deep impression that no other series did for me
FMA is a series I have always looked back on fondly from the time(s) I watched both versions throughout the years whenever it was on the platform I viewed it on. Never a dull moment with this classic.
@@quentinfaison2826 Brotherhood and the manga are definitely something you have to rewatch and reread multiple times and you'll begin to appreciate it more and more as you grow and experience life more. One thing I can fault is that the chimeras from later in the story were weird. We had been shown the horror and ethical ideas behind chimeras with Nina and the dog early on but then half way through they decided to make humanoid chimeras with cartoony ability’s. don’t get me wrong they are good characters but I feel their implementation was a bit childish and they could have been executed more appropriately, to me they felt like characters off a Cartoon Network show.
My introduction to Fullmetal Alchemist was via the 2003 series. I grew up watching reruns of it, and I fell in love with the characters and their story. I felt the pain they went through and laughed when they laughed. Because of how much I loved it, I had a hard time getting into Brotherhood, even though I already knew that it's very different, both in terms of tone and the story. I love both, as they're fantastic in their own way, but I still have a bit of bias towards the 2003 series.
Not overrated, FMA is a really good story, with amazing characters and themes. What always amazes me the most is how well written it is and how good it handles secondary characters. My forever favorite
Great video as always. I've long since believed this to be my all time favourite complete series, with Berserk being the incomplete one. It truly can take the title of masterpiece because it revolves around a completely original story, a full unbroken and perfect narrative. No piece I feel could be taken as the sum of parts make an overall whole. Minor characters each have their own moments, development and influence on the brothers that naturally builds in the story. Each villain has their own poetic rational as well yo contrast the heroes of the story. Your points again absolutly spot on.
Watched Fma 2003 first when I was 6,7yo, I've rewatched it every year up to when i was 14, and then i found out abt Brotherhood, I binged it in 2 days (had final exams that determined where I will study after grade 7, but I was too hooked to the story to even care) and slept around 3 hours for the 2 days combined. Loved every second of it, it became my fav piece of fiction/story/show. 2003 is my first anime and it was my fav until i watched Brotherhood, so the Fma franchise is my all-time fav, it taught me a lot, it helped me grow into the person I am today and I will always praise and love it. Edward is my fav fictional character since I was 6yo and that will never change too.
Oh, the manga it's totally a masterpiece, and not just the story or the themes, but also the art. The expressions on the character's faces, their eyes telling how much they are hurting inside it's so heartbreaking but incredible, you can feel what they are feeling at that moment. So yeah, please read FMA you won't regret it.
This anime should have been part of the big three. Everyone had a role to play to further the plot. From beginning to end it had the solid base line of "one is all and all is one". This shonen has became a true masterpiece. This shonen has zero plot holes from beginning to end.
Big three is based on sustained run and maintained popularity throughout its massively sustained run. Has little to nothing to do with quality. (For the most part the big 3 at least as anime aren’t very good in my opinion.)
I'm glad FMA isn't a part of the big 3, because it's so much better. Also, Bleach sucks. It is such an underwhelming anime. It's popular because kids grew up on it. The creators constantly pulled new ideas our of thin air that contradicted the show.
FMA not being part of the big 3 is what allowed it to grow and prosper like it has. Everyone was fighting over which of the big 3 is better, and FMA here just went, "Nah, I'mma do my own thing."

One thing I preferred about the 2003 anime is how they handled the homunculus. 2003 SPOILERS Making them the results of botched human transmutations really added a lot to their characters and the characters that created them
Yeah I actually liked that, I just hated how they ended up as just fodder for Dante, it really cut down on their threat to me especially with the whole “use our dead bodies as our weakness” thing. In Brotherhood they’re far more menacing cause of how quickly they regenerate and it seems as if they have no weakness besides “keep killing them & pray they run out of energy before they kill you”
@@erockbaby3000 they're not supposed to be threats in 03 they are developed and even are the embodiment of some other characters grief and guilt sloth in 03 being a great example being Edwards guilt and fmab u right they more threatening no caring for human live etc I think they ain't as developed with some expections like Bradley and greed but still I sorta agree with u here but all versions are amazing
Actually I kind of disagree with that. That reveal had potential to be cool, but it was very clear that it wasn't meant to be like that from the start. For example, Sloth being Ed and Al's mother doesn't really make any sense if you wanna look at it symbolically. Envy, Gluttony, and Greed still make sense. Even Lust was okay. But with two completely different intentions present in the same story, there are a few inconsistencies there. Whereas Brotherhood's homunculi all come as one unit and they work beautifully together on so many levels
@@sprawlz6466 i gotta disagree with u that is what they were from the start and with the sloth thing she was a mother but wants to be her own person she says to ed that "by killing you i can prove i am not your mother i wouldn't be tormented by these memories i am not your mother and yet i feel i am your mother. i almost feel as though i can love you when because you created me, i ought to hate you" here shows she doesn't wanna be her old self she wants to make her own choices and be her own individual and separate herself from the reason for her creation however when she dies her last words to ed are "good job, clean up after yourselves and take care of each other" sure that's a lil complex did she want to be with ed and Al? or separate herself from that position as soon as possible once again answers to the homunculi humanity and desires are left ambiguous and in this case i love that these characters are confused about what component comprise their personalities so why would they act or speak with consistency they don't know what they want they don't know what they are they have memories of their creation and have memories of their past lives but are those memories merely due to the transmutation or do they have somethin to do with a piece with their original selves coming back to them both for them and the audience its impossible to know and that makes sloth's arc and ed and Al battle with her all the more tragic
It's in my top ten. Very nicely balanced manga that sticks it's landing wonderfully. Amazing cast of characters too. Not a single bad one. That includes Yoki. (But Lan Fan is the best!)
The manga can definitely be considered a masterpiece, brotherhood is a great adaptation overall but the first several episodes or so hold it back a bit. Still fine episodes for sure but 2003 generally has an advantage as an adaptation for the earlier parts of the series.
I agree I love brotherhood but the first 10 episodes or so are kinda rushed and suffer from tonal whiplash like after the fight with scar when Al has what is supposed to be a very emotional speech it immediately cuts to slapstick humor kind of ruining the scene the first 12 episodes of the original FMA capture the early chapters of the manga much better especially since there is alot of fucked up stuff in those early sections and fma 03 is very good with its atmosphere and character building but brotherhood after episode 12 is basically perfect and overall I think Brotherhood is a much better anime
Although, if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made fullmetal.
Fullmetal Alchemist is another favorite series of mine growing up and it was one of the first series I managed to finish reading from start to finish. After I graduated from high school one of the gifts I got for a job well done were the last remaining volumes of the FMA Manga so I got into reading them right away. Hiromu Arakawa's tale about Ed and Al also helped me see why Anime and Manga are powerful mediums and like with Togashi with his works she deserves as much respect for creating this phenomenal story.
well, i agree with your opinion, but nahhh. There's nothing called "the best" that exists. Something which is 'best' for you, may not be the same for the other individual. I kinda feel disappointed to see so many good and balanced mangas getting overshadowed by fmab and so many fans are reluctant in making fmab the only good anime. I am not here to lit up an argument, so even if yall disagree, be it. I won't gonna reply to anyone.
I struggled getting into FMA Brotherhood, I haven’t consumed the others, but I kept going, all be it at a pretty slow pace. That was until I got to the Hughes arc (I don’t want to spoil anything by saying more), and from there it was full blast binge watching for the next 20 episodes. I’ve slowed down again but I’m really annoying it. I’ve never understood how something can be under/overrated. We can all dislike something that is popular. Why should that affect how others feel about it? It really shouldn’t. Being popular doesn’t even mean it’s good. It just means a lot of people like. In FMA Brotherhoods case it is highly rated in a numerical ranking system. So if people who are watching it and rating it highly, then that’s what it’s rated. Anyway I think it’s good. And it nice to see the larger anime community agrees.
Till this day there's no anime that has shaken the position of FMAB as the best shounen of all time, it's not even my favourite but you just can't argue against facts.
My friend introduced it to me and i wasnt rly intrested in anime but decided it to read it since i didnt have anything to read. Needless to say, i love it and its now apart of me.
Fullmetal Alchemist is a fantastic story, rich with all of the pilosophies & values in the world. A story that draws all kind of people even the not geek like us, still get drawn by this Masterpiece.
I’ve heard of it but never watched or read it, I’ll add it to my list of upcoming series, my list is getting bloody long now, don’t think I’ll ever be done, it’s costing me over €1,000 per month on manga, I’m currently putting together Gantz, Fairy Tail and the regular tankōbons of Berserk, nearly finished the first 2, I’m at vol 24 of Berserk. Then I’ll put together Vinland Saga, 20th Century Boys & One Punch Man.
When you know the whole existence omniverse, you and me all are alchemy 🤯🤯🤯 This is most scientific accurate thing Fmab has ever depicted a show hat can go to this level is just the greatest written story ever
I prefer more the 03 version more and everyone should watch it but fmab is amazing as well but the manga is my second favorite version of fma but fr all versions are amazing 👏
You should review Pandora Hearts too, many people call that a masterpiece just like Fullmetal (I agree on both sides, both of them I consider a masterpiece) and called it their favorite but it's super underrated thanks to the lack of anime (manga ended in 2015), so people are wishing Pandora Hearts could get Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood treatment. Lol XD I would say Fullmetal has better world building and better fight scenes and worked harder in terms of amount of stuff drawn in the manga. But Pandora Hearts has better characters (but also less character, so this is probably fair, but hey, quality over quantity), better villain (My favorite character is actually a villain which is something I didn't experience in both Fullmetal, Dragon Ball, and Final Fantasy XIV), better design, and better mystery (amazing planning too despite lasting for almost a decade which makes the mystery aspect even more amazing, like chapter 1 literary gave us so many questions but author knew the answer for everything. She think of answers then questions based on those answers unlike most manga, also I didn't said Fullmetal isn't like that, to be honest idk if Fullmetal is like that or not so don't say I'm wrong since I didn't say fullmetal doesn't have that kind of planning too). (This is just my opinion about what I think between the 2, but that is why I enjoy Pandora Hearts more though) I do think Fullmetal has more interesting power system, but I also think there was a bigger plot twist involving Pandora Hearts power system which I really liked.
Ok did you read the physical book? If so bro those last pages of the last vol is so sad that made me cry but happy/ sad tears. If you haven’t read it please do.
It's not on my top 10 favorite anime but it's definitely in my top 10 best ever. There's no such thing as a perfect story, but goddamn this comes close to it😅
It definitely has one of the best dubs of all time up there with Bebop, baccano!, Hellsing, and Yu Yu hakusho. But both performances are absolutely fantastic. As for broader suggestions with the franchise I would recommend watching the first adaptation before watching brotherhood (for reasons I would be more than happy to go more in depth on,) and additionally would advise taking a small break in between the two shows. Just know the two shows are completely different stories that are each coming from the same origin and premise.
What I don’t like about fullmetal alchemist is the toxic part of the fandom that keeps upvoting it on my anime list and not letting other anime’s stand on the spotlight, even for a sliver of a moment
Great manga and anime to be sure but I'm apprehensive to call it a masterpiece. The ending is just way to neat and tidy where even Pride (FREAKING PRIDE) is allowed a happy ending.
Fullmetal Alchemist and Brotherhood especially Brotherhood has no plot holes. It's fast pace, emotionally complete. A journey of two brothers doing the unthinkable and the sacrifices they have to make. Their teacher, those around them are tragic and lively. Every single character has a purpose. None are dumb, few are innocent but some are repentant. Their minds corrupt if they have a philosophers stone. Edward losing his alchemy hurt but it was such a willing sacrifice and he never got his leg back. It's all balance. Hunter x Hunter Game arc is boring and that's why I can't put it ahead of FMAB. I also like that HxH doesn't even waste its time showing the fights. If a character will beat you hands down. It's not shown.
"There's no such thing as a painless lesson-they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made Fullmetal."

This is my favorite manga/anime series' of all time. It inspired me to write my own manga inspired comic.
this is also one of my favorite manga, i even sometimes used this manga as a blueprint for making my story too
It's in my top ten.
That seems to be the general consensus when it comes to the 2 adaptations though I don't mind the beginning of Brotherhood.
@@franklindbrosevelt5260screw the 03 version
Although, if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made fullmetal.
I need to read this! I’ve been waiting far too long.
Sees title:
"Yes."
I don’t think any manga can ever top this perfect masterpiece. It still blows my mind how perfect it is.
I love both of the series so this might be my next read
I feel like you did this manga justice. Very well put video and interesting take on it.
Love your vids, Ryan. Keep it up!
It's so GOAT'd it basically just a given that it'll be at the top of any list, rightfully so
FMA is the best Shounen Manga ever imo.Fantastic characterization,Development, solid antagonists, best Paced by far, with consistent art.
"FMA is the best Shounen Manga ever."
Never thought of it as such, but now that you've made the point, I can't really say no.
well, i agree with your opinion, but nahhh.
@@rutobruvno, it’s the best!! Period!
Both the anime adaptations are amazing ( I wonder if there is case similar to this where different anime adaptations of the same manga are thus good )
"Fullmetal Alchemist Is A MASTERPIECE"

Ok Shirou Emiya
Nice pfp. I like the fact that you included Morda this time 😂👍🏻
Neither over nor under. I think it’s rated very comfortably around “Masterpiece”.
Its a beatiful story about how priceless is human life, connection and the soul.
The closest shonen has ever got to perfection in my humble opinion. I have no idea how many times I’ve watched this show, but it never gets old.
My friend introduced it to me and i wasnt rly intrested in anime but decided it to read it since i didnt have anything to read. Needless to say, i love it and its now apart of me.
one of my favorite anime stories of all time. 10/10.
Hey Ryan if it isn't in your list, maybe consider reviewing Kasane, it's a suspense seinen manga, really great
It is a great, tightly written, well paced story with solid characters, great twists and an ending.
My top five anime for me. It was very impactful in my life
I am actually rewatching the anime because nostalgia.. also I kinda forgot what happened. But man it’s just sooo good
All three versions are great🔥
Im not proud of myself for skip FMA 2003 because this anime is just.....
Pure emotion
Love seein u around fma shit on here 😈🔥🔥 keep spitting facts king

Hope that FMA 2003 will gain more popularity

My favorite manga/anime of all time, for me is perfection
Getting to this channel without knowing what fma is
Is like being a grandmaster in chess without ever reading about who was bobby fischer
What a masterpiece.
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is so good despite it being on Netflix I bought the complete series on DVD.
full metal is literally one of the greatest animes i've ever watched. it kicks so much ass
the plottwist with eds father awesome
Me seeing this video title:
“Yes.”
Hughes and Mustang were in fact brothers, but not in a conventional sense. They were brothers in arms and ideals.
Great video Ryan
Brotherhood prob my fav anime an I gotta buy the blue rays already
Fullmetal Alchemist is a fantastic story, rich with all of the pilosophies & values in the world.
A story that draws all kind of people even the not geek like us, still get drawn by this Masterpiece.
Oh, It's a masterpiece, period.
I rewatched it recently and I just wish winrey had more to do in the climax.
I've seen the anime and it's great and I do plan on getting the manga
When you know the whole existence omniverse, you and me all are alchemy 🤯🤯🤯
This is most scientific accurate thing Fmab has ever depicted a show hat can go to this level is just the greatest written story ever
I prefer more the 03 version more and everyone should watch it but fmab is amazing as well but the manga is my second favorite version of fma but fr all versions are amazing 👏
Ooo I can answer that question
FMA has yet to regain its pace as #1 anime on MAL. Infact its rating dropped by 0.01
bah, who cares about MAL
*Reads title* Correct.
Probably my second favorite Manga behind Berserk.
One of my favorite anime
FMAB was one of the first anime I watched
One of the saddest ending soundtracks
You should review Pandora Hearts too, many people call that a masterpiece just like Fullmetal (I agree on both sides, both of them I consider a masterpiece) and called it their favorite but it's super underrated thanks to the lack of anime (manga ended in 2015), so people are wishing Pandora Hearts could get Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood treatment. Lol XD
I would say Fullmetal has better world building and better fight scenes and worked harder in terms of amount of stuff drawn in the manga. (This is just my opinion about what I think between the 2, but that is why I enjoy Pandora Hearts more though)
I do think Fullmetal has more interesting power system, but I also think there was a bigger plot twist involving Pandora Hearts power system which I really liked.
Ok did you read the physical book? If so bro those last pages of the last vol is so sad that made me cry but happy/ sad tears. If you haven’t read it please do.
The best anime I've ever watched. Nuff said
ed and al are way too underrated as protagonists, even with how much fmab is hyped up, i never see them talked about
Yo Ryan I want your take on Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! 😁
It's not on my top 10 favorite anime but it's definitely in my top 10 best ever.
There's no such thing as a perfect story, but goddamn this comes close to it😅
So it’s one of your top 10 favorite stories then? (Ignoring style and personal impact)
I planning to this whole series should I watch it in sub or dub? Any suggestions
Bro please respect this masterpiece
What I don’t like about fullmetal alchemist is the toxic part of the fandom that keeps upvoting it on my anime list and not letting other anime’s stand on the spotlight, even for a sliver of a moment
I love kaguya but it really shouldn't be above brotherhood right now even though the adaptation of the source material is fantastic lol
@@TerrorOfTalos it’s not just Kaguya, it’s about the other anime that came close in second place but got downvoted to hell
@@orangesodaninja8882 Yeah I know it happened with AoT s3 too, though I'm not really familiar with it past season 1 and haven't read the manga yet.
@@TerrorOfTalos I’m just saying I’m sick of such actions and see it as a downside of the fullmetal alchemist as a whole
Good, keep it that way
Seems interesting 😊
Great manga and anime to be sure but I'm apprehensive to call it a masterpiece. The ending is just way to neat and tidy where even Pride (FREAKING PRIDE) is allowed a happy ending.
It’s a masterpiece
my favorite fight is roy vs lust
bottom line,FMA imo is about love & sacrifice… 🤔
Well yeah I know that
Once time I asked this one girl I about this anime and she saids she never about it
True
yup
Hey ryan will you stream elden ring again soon?
I actually really liked the original anime
'manly voice giggiling like a girl'- "hehehe fullmetal alchemist"
It q solid show for sure
Very epic
