For a group that idolizes Archie Bunker, they never seem to understand anything about All in the Family. Archie was often shown as being a jerk, and being shown that he was wrong in the end. There will be a character that is shown as being “weird” by conventional standards, and then the show demonstrates that “oh, they’re actually just like us and deserve respect.” Archie wasn’t the good guy. Archie was comic relief and the stand-in for a closed-minded bigot who gets humbled.
Also Archie generally tried to be polite (not successfully but hey) unless or until he got mad (or if its someone he already knew like Michael or his neighbors)
yeah this show theyve made makes it very confusing who the person being laughed as is because half the time it feels like its making fun of the old guy himself which kinda goes against the point of it. do people see his behaviour and think yeah hes the cool person in this situation? lol
As someone with allergies the part about this show brushing off allergies scares me a bit. When someone says they're allergic to something in the environment (pets, food, items) that not them being "sensitive" or in this case the gender of the pet isn't going to make the allergy magically disappear. It's can be deadly & to have a show act like allergies as something not to be taken seriously is going to result in some people not taking their friend or fanily members allergies as seriously & could lead to a medical emergency or death
@infpdreams Yeah. I hope they're never around anyone who has allergies to anything because if this is how they think it is in the show I can only imagine the suffering they're going to put someone through who ends in the ER because they didn't think their allergy was real or thought they could magically make it go away by making jokes about how sensitive they are for having allergies
I'm allergic to both cats and dogs and when I was younger my eyes were swollen with how much I had scratched the hell out of my eyes. Allergies literally made my life a hell because of how much I wanted to be around dogs, but it definitely wasn't healthy
It's wild to me that this is something that people think in real life, too. Whether someone has an allergy is not up for debate, that seems pretty basic to me.
They completely misinterpreted the message of All In the Family. The show was always making fun of how conservative and offensive Archie Bunker was. It was actually a fairly liberal show for the time.
Yup. I watched this as a little kid in the 70s. Archie was the a**hole, but at least he learned to accept new ideas and people at the end of almost every episode.
A "Black Whisper" is when a white or otherwise nonblack person either whispers or mouths the word black when referencing a black person ("is he... you know... black?"). This is usually seen in a context where either the whisperer is unsure if saying "black" is offensive or are so appauled by black people they force themselves through it at a lower tone (like when someone apologizes but they don't mean it)

Chekovs Gun is an old movie (and maybe stage) trope about if you draw attention to a seemingly random object then that must come into play later on. It is not a reference to Star Trek however as where most of us might know a Chekov from. In the case of the name then it was with a close up of a gun for seemingly no reason, only for that gun to then be used before the end. And so with the beer it was with focusing on it getting shaken up so therefore the pay off would be someone getting caught out by it later.
The Checkov of Chekhov’s gun is… definitely not the character Chekhov from Star Trek. It’s Anton Chekov, one of the most famous and respected playwrights of all time, and the principle that if a gun appears in scene one, it must be fired before the end of the play. It’s older than television but it’s such a common concept of narrative.
The awkwardness, the silence after not getting each others references. This was like a father and son collab and I'm all here for it. So freaking cute!!! 😭🙏✨

@@princessCashel Oh! Lesbian is actually a term for a non man (Or masc gendered person) w/ non man! Technically, a gay person and a lesbian would date if they were both non-binary!
@@ThatKidWhoGotBored Okay, so lesbian means that someone who's not male is attracted to someone else who's not male? It doesn't specifically have to mean a girl who is attracted to other girls?
@@user-kt3en7hk4q It helped, but I have another question. I still don't see more than two genders, is that wrong? Again, I'm sorry if this comes off as insensitive, I'm just trying to learn.
Not to be mean, but Sam seemed clueless about almost everything throughout the video, especially about most of One Topic’s commentary and references 💀 This seems more like a Sam thing than a generational thing 😅
Chekhov's gun is the name of a writing trope. Basically, if you prominently show a gun hanging on a wall somewhere in the beginning of a piece of media, it will be fired at some point later. It's basically a specific kind of foreshadowing and it doesn't just apply to guns, but that is the example that the trope was named after. If you see something that has a specific function being unused in the beginning of a movie, it might come back later and fulfill it's function. OT saw the beer can being dropped on the floor and immediately realized the foreshadowing aspect. "Why would you show a beer can being dropped on the floor and shaken through if you aren't going to open it and have it spray everywhere later?" is the same kind of question as "Why would you show a gun prominently displayed on the wall, if it isn't going to be fired at all?". So in this case the beer can is a Chekhov's gun, as it is an object that has the story function of a Chekhov's gun. So in this case one could call it a Chekhov's beer can, as OT did. I don't know how good of an explanation that was, but I tried 😅

You'll probably of heard it by now, but Chekhov's gun is a rule of thumb for stage. It prescribes that every small detail in a scene matters. To paraphrase: "Don't present a gun in the first act if it's not going to go off by the third"
Coming over from OT's channel, this is going to be great!!! After watching through, who knew that OT was so knowledgeable? He really examined every bit of those scenes.

13:35 “Hopefully not a Jets fan.” The guy is wearing the logos of Washington, regardless what you call the team. Anyone who knows anything about football and the NFL knows that the Jets are in the AFC East, and Washington is in the NFC East, they are not rivals. Why is it that the conservatives manage to make their own satire?? In this show their own main character Norm seems much less reasonable than the girl with the rainbow bracelet i forgot the name of
The “girls weren’t girls and men weren’t men” is a reference to the All in the Family (Archie Bunker) theme song “Those Were the Days” that has a line, “girls were girls and men were men”…..and even fully understanding where they were trying to go with that joke, it still falls completely flat. That show was from the 70s and existed in that context…and even in the 70s, the ornery, narrow-minded, racist main character still has several opportunities for growth. This one-dimensional parody is just gross and is honestly an insult to the original show they are trying to glorify.
All in the Family Archie Bunker character is the stereotype of an old grumpy middle age white man, the show is making fun of bigoted people and how stupid they look. In one of the episodes Archie goes to a ( you know what) rally and he even thought that was too far, it shows a growth in character.

Women aren’t people according to conservatives
well, she IS a woman and for conservatives it's basically the same as a walking talking attack helicopter
the black guy's daughter is pretty clearly transitioning to a woman (you can tell by the name change + the fact that the implied bigot called her a boy and that's the most common way of transitioning, idk if they're aware that non-binary people also transition + it's in the synopsis for another episode) and Norm went "transitioning to WHAT" with utter disgust, as if women were some weird fantasy creatures
so yeah, for Norm probably only cis men are normal 😅
I'm gonna take it that the show is probably 95% AI written.

in general, wtf are they on with pretending to be anti-establishment: admittedly, I don't know much about US politics (I'm not American), but don't Republicans still have a shit ton of power on state level? isn't congress still Republican? idk, for all I know they're passing anti-trans legislation left and right and even Democrats/Biden is far from being progressive, didn't he literally pass a major transphobic legislation regarding the draft? not to mention that they had their beloved Trump just a few years ago - sorry, but if you were actual revolutionaries (like yours truly), you'd have ZERO representation in the politics, zero mass media pandering to you
like I've said, I can't say much about the US, but in Poland they say the same shit, even amidst the rule of an ultra-conservative PiS ("Law and Justice") party, they cried about transing kids and chopping off the peepees of minors when at the same time, I, a 26 (at the time) years old trans person, had to burn all my savings (I couldn't start medical transition earlier because I plainly couldn't afford to drive around Poland to beg various professionals to let me take HRT; public healthcare doesn't cover this at all, you need a slip from a therapist (psychologist), a psychiatrist AND a sexologist, there are like 3 trans-friendly professionals of each profession in the entire country, you need to pay out of your pocket for the visits, and don't ever dream of getting HRT as a non-binary person or blockers as a minor) to spend months begging various professionals to let me get the goddamn pills - they'll talk about trans surgeries on little kids when in reality people in their 30s (who had gender dysphoria since fucking kindergarten and are 100% sure) can't get stupid HRT, many trans people just take black market HRT and abandon all hope of ever being legally recognized, or, no matter how many bows I put in my hair and assure everyone that my peepee doesn't even work (can't get it removed cos I can't afford it and it's lowkey illegal, people travel to Asia to get vaginoplasty), there's zero chance of me entering the gender-appropriate toilet, and I get harassed pretty much every day on the street already, so you can imagine how uncomfortable it is to be in the men's restroom looking like a girl from Kidz Bop, pink everything, hair bows, Hello Kitty merch, of course a plaid skirt cos I have a kawaii style - many people actually think I'm a cis girl (and kick me out of there), but I don't pass that well (I'm in the cursed middle), so I'd get my ass beaten if I entered the women's restroom, so ultimately the solution transphobes offer me is not peeing at all, I'm just not allowed to exist, but transphobes will play the victims (oh yeah, poor transphobes have to perceive "a boy in a skirt" on the street, the visual makes them uncomfortable, never mind that I don't pass because it's them who didn't allow me to transition early enough not to look weird, they're the real victims because they have to see a gender-freak on the street, not me who was forced to become a gender-freak instead of a normal girl: I can't go to the proper restroom, I can't go to the gym, I can't go outside without causing a major controversy, I can't have a normal life, I'll never have a boyfriend, I'm barely allowed to exist, but certainly not live, all because of them, but they're the victims 😂 give me a break)

Archie was comic relief and the stand-in for a closed-minded bigot who gets humbled.
thx for explaining, I didn't know Archie Bunker!
Also Archie generally tried to be polite (not successfully but hey) unless or until he got mad (or if its someone he already knew like Michael or his neighbors)
They have a similar problem with King of the Hill
yeah this show theyve made makes it very confusing who the person being laughed as is because half the time it feels like its making fun of the old guy himself which kinda goes against the point of it. do people see his behaviour and think yeah hes the cool person in this situation? lol
Yup. It's a complete insult to everything Norman Lear was trying to do and everything he stood for.
Yet more tangible proof of their extremely antisocial and malicious tendencies.
Especially with food allergies
Sam saying “Pee pee poo poo” is the only norm around here
They completely misinterpreted the message of All In the Family. The show was always making fun of how conservative and offensive Archie Bunker was. It was actually a fairly liberal show for the time.
Yes! Thank you!
Archie had a drag queen friend who was portrayed as a completely likeable human being.
Yup. I watched this as a little kid in the 70s. Archie was the a**hole, but at least he learned to accept new ideas and people at the end of almost every episode.
Both Norman Lear and Carrol O'Conner (the actor who portrayed Archie Bunker) said they hated the character despite his popularity.

A "Black Whisper" is when a white or otherwise nonblack person either whispers or mouths the word black when referencing a black person ("is he... you know... black?").
Originally a stage trope, developed by playwright Anton Chekov
The Checkov of Chekhov’s gun is… definitely not the character Chekhov from Star Trek. It’s Anton Chekov, one of the most famous and respected playwrights of all time, and the principle that if a gun appears in scene one, it must be fired before the end of the play. It’s older than television but it’s such a common concept of narrative.

yeah, pretty old if you’re talking about alexander the great 💀
Chekhov's gun is the name of a writing trope.

We all know that beer wouldn't have a single rainbow anywhere on it even half a second into July that things been sitting in the fridge for months
You'll probably of heard it by now, but Chekhov's gun is a rule of thumb for stage. It prescribes that every small detail in a scene matters. To paraphrase: "Don't present a gun in the first act if it's not going to go off by the third"

He should have said a Giants fan… if he wanted the joke to make sense. The Giants and Washington are in the same division and therefore would be actual rivals.
That's the line closest to an actual joke in the whole pilot though. It's not anti-woke nonsense, I think, just a regular sports comment. It makes enough sense, if you don't know about the NFC/AFC difference.
