Wow, this is such a fascinating project! I love Maggie's explanations; it really adds to the video and also shows what a major project you've taken on. Great work so far!
Michael Sorry this a bit later comment, Great Video I do like Maggie’s information about the history of the Cathedral from humble Saxon Church, through the Norman & Medieval Period to the 1950 Extension in a similar Style. I know many Church have been on a similar site for over 1000 years but have been altered, rebuilt over that time. Ilkley Parish Church is built on the older Roman Fort, Otley Church has Saxon Crosses on display. In East Anglia there is evidence of Saxon Structures and Stones in many older Church’s, which have had Norman and more modern additions, especially in the smaller or more rural ones like St Mary Old Church, Frinton on Sea or St Mary’s Quay Ipswich. St Mary Quay, Saxon heritage was found under the current Medieval Nave during archaeological excavations during a redevelopment. Ian
Another great video showing how you manage the quirks of years of alterations, great to see Maggie working with you and explaining the architectural aspect. Good luck with the talk in September, am sure you will draw the audience in like you do us to your videos. Keep up the amazing work.
Great work Michael! Impressive as always! Will you be videoing your talk? I live down south so won’t be able to make it but would be very keen to watch a video of your talk if you record it.
I really enjoying this series, I’d love to see you tackle more historical buildings in the future. The mix of you building and the history of the building is amazing.
Michael it’s incredible to see you piecing all this together, such a massive project. I’m stumbling big time on a much smaller project so I take my hat off to you. I think this will prove though that you’ll be able to build pretty much anything! Even the mock up looks like a big bit of work on its own! Cheers Michael and have a good one
I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion. Under you metal ruler cut a length of 3mm or 2mm (if you can get hold of it) cork to fit the full length of the ruler and tape it up on the underside or CA glue it. It will give you a sligh clearing just in case you slip with the blade. I speak from experience and have the scars to prove it lol. Seriously it could save you some pain
Thanks for the tip! I’ve tried this before but my accuracy suffered. I’ve gone back to using the ruler as-is. I always use VERY light strokes and on the couple of occasions I’ve slipped, the knife has just bounced off my fingers.
My wife and I live in the USA and are touring the UK in September. We will just barely miss the opportunity to be there with you (staying Saturday overnight in Leeds).
Hi there I'm really enjoying thease videos about the minster and I would like to see you on the 14th but I'll be helping at the church that I attend as one of the bell rangers so good luck
It's so interesting to see this all come together, and the way the church has reused older building materials for it's own purpose! I wonder what you would find if you could dig down underneath... I wonder if the original was actually built on some more pagan worship site, as so many churches were. The model is looking fantastic, and the actual build, although a huge undertaking, will be the easier for it with the breaking down into smaller sections, I dread to think just how complicated it's going to be as it is, without the separation of parts that you have done!
your Video is insperational , your process are so useful, I,m a wargamer , so I fancy building a Half timber framed in 1.72 scale Lichfield britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101194869-5-the-close-lichfield/photos/11253
Thats some job.fair play.im learning inkscape and I can't get stuff to print at the correct size.i think churches are way off.well done though.you have great patience
Brilliant work Michael. Astonishing history behind the origins of the building adds to the excitement. Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant finding out the links to the past. Thanks to Maggie. Good luck with your talk. Arthur
Thanks Arthur. My talk will be on the channel on Friday.

It’s fascinating isn’t it, just how much there is
Michael. You're a brave man. Good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing how you proceed. Pete.
You and me both! 😂
Very interesting video. The extra information from Maggie was also good to know. Can't wait for the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it! Always a lot to hear from Maggie.
Fascinating stuff, and nice to see the cathedral and its site history are honoured by the inclusion of the ancient stonework.
The ancient stonework is lovely.
I plan to model a few historical buildings myself so will be following this series with interest
I hope I can live up to it!
@@Chandwell im sure you will
Fantastic project, Michael. I hope your talk is well received!
It was! Really pleased with it. It will be on my channel on Friday.

Thank you. I hope I can pull it off. I’ve never done a public talk before.
Amazing work. If in the area in Sept I may well pop along. See you in a few weeks.
Please do! And please come say hello if you do.

@@Chandwell thanks great news! Thanks Michael! Hopefully it was a roaring success!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I’m sorry for the delayed reply - I missed this completely!

@@Chandwell it’s been great so far, it must be quite the challenge to step into a project like this.

The mock up looks great. It’s so big!
This is lovely to watch and admire your dedication. Alan
Many thanks!

Just what edg had already said in the earlier comment. Best wishes and I hope that your talk goes well.
Thank you! It went really well and will be available to see on my channel on Friday.
Tickets booked for tours and the talk. This should be an interesting day out.

You should be sponsored by Weetabix :) Great work, would love to watch your talk - Bradford has many memories.....
I’ve run out of cereal packet!! The cathedral mock up was just so big !
With each video it looks more and more complicated. I really hope it all goes well. Will you be doing a video of your talk at the cathedral?
Yes I will. It was recorded and it will be available at 5pm on Friday.
Don't forget the netty Bonny Lad... 🚽 🤣😂🤣
Eee aye!

Yes the breaking into sections really helps focus the mind and make it easier to understand the whole.
You could perhaps use a subset of this in Chandwell?
I’m not sure I have the space in a position that would make sense.
Unfortunately i will be helping set up for our club ( Huddersfield railway modellers) open day on the 14, pity as i would have loved to be there.
Hope the show went well for you! My talk will be available on my channel on Friday.
@@Chandwell thank you, the show went very well.
Those church builders don't make it easy! A lot of work, but I'm sure it will be superb. Cheers
It’s going to be fun, for sure!!
the story about the stone is confusing. a wall from the 1300s with a stone from the 1800s. time travel?
Stone is Saxon (410-1066 AD). Wall is 1300s. Stone was found in 1800s. And added to the wall during refurbishment in 1960s.
@@Chandwell oh, okay. thanks
if you resized the actual cathedral you might make it easier to model
Hmm. 🤔
