Hey everyone! Co-writer and director of ATROPA here. Very excited to share the series with you - be sure to catch all seven episodes, releasing one-per-day this week. I'm happy to answer any questions below, and hopefully some of our awesome cast and crew will chime in as well. Many thanks to the team at DUST, and to everyone for watching and supporting the show. Enjoy!
Graphics are immense already and I'm 2mins in. Looking forward to this all week. Thanks guys and Very Very well done. 👏🏽👏🏽 From the mouthy one of the silent majority of sci-fi fans 🤣💯👽💯👹💯🤖💯🚀💯👊🏽 Subd aswell.,👍🏽
This 7-episode series is better than most of what comes out of Hollywood. The story line, the script, the acting, the musical score, the judicious use of awesome special effects.
Freelance Storyboard Artist JC here that worked on ATROPA. Congrats to the cast and crew of ATROPA. Thanks to DUST for picking up the show and showing it to the world. Really awesome to see this again. Good job everybody!
I like it! I can't believe that DUST is distributing this story. It's not post-apocalypse. It's not about the last surviving human. It's a thriller, but not intentionally depressing. And, most important, it appears to have a plot! All of these are no-nos on DUST.
You all did awesome work with this one. Wonderful casting, acting, atmosphere, and sound. Been rewatching it every other month or so, when I get bored or traveling somewhere. Hats off to you and the others involved, all the best to ya all=)
I honestly don’t understand why you so very talented people are not making major films & TV shows these shorts remind me of classic television the outer limits, the twilight zone, people want escapism & you all serve it up in boatloads! Bravo Dust! Bravo!
..WAIT A MINUTE!!!??! This is *incredibly* good, amazing.... how the hell am I only now learning about this in fall 2023?? ATROPA is spectacular - thank you, and my compliments -
The use of reflections, authentic atmosphere achieved by lighting, and a soundtrack that beats with heart of the story. Crazy to think that was only 9 minutes. Casting was on point. Hats off to a well orchasted team effort!
I just watched all seven chapters of "ATROPA" It was like watching a movie , The good part it was better the of the junk I've been seeing on television. Thank you for the right balance of science and fiction .It was just cam good.....
or how we're in a future where there is apparently fully functional artificial gravity, yet they can't cobble together a basic navigation system for their ships.
Makes sense for a smaller ship. We've been using a similar set-up for some time with our space-craft = multiple engines capable of firing in different directions to adjust course. Though generally they put the engines on gimbals so they can rotate just the engine outlet cone instead of the whole engine. But still.
You know it's good hardcore scifi when there's good metal sturdy interior, i cant wait to see more of this scifi is coming in strong and is here to STAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
After just watching the second episode, I agree with a lot of people that the cgi and effects were superb. But i would also like to add the actors did an amazing job and make all the difference in making the story seem more real and interesting. I cant wait to see more.
I can’t believe I just now came across this channel after many years of watching nothing but videos on space travel, updates on space craft engines, exo planets, ETC… this is one of the best YT channels I’ve ever came across.
This has restored my faith in good story telling, design, acting, production, directing in sci fi when there is so much crap out there today from destroyed franchises like Star Wars and trek. And I only watched 2 episodes so far. Amazing work, please stay independent and make more!
This is a "must watch"! I was hooked, glued to my screen, binged the first 6 episodes, just waiting with baited breath on the final episode... The urgency and tension never drops, keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through every episode, and then the cliff hanger at the end of the episode leaves you wanting more... I can't wait for the final installment! Truly impressive work, thank you to everyone involved in making this masterpiece - even more impressive to know it was done on such a low budget! Well done, and keep on producing such excellent work!
Looking good, gonna watch the other episodes. What I like here in particular is that the vehicle of the Officer Cole is in need of a paint job, the hull lshows wear and tear. But I think it makes sense. Gritted by space junk, ultraviolet radiation, whatever else. Hard growth from space moss and tardigrades, lol. And maybe it has been in use for many years. The bigger ship looks a bit newer.
1:00 That little musical flourish. Direct nod to Alien. Love it. Really clever to rely on an established franchise to convey atmosphere in a limited amount of time. Excellent work overall, looking forward to binging the rest
Excellent observation! There were a few other similarities or 'nods' to Alien - music very similar to Jerry Goldsmith's in the first half, particularly in the scene from 4:45, along with the lighting and steam venting in the corridors.
The electronic heartbeat sound is maybe a nod to The Thing. The heartbeat music for that movie has haunted me more than the movie itself, and I must have seen the movie a hundred times.
I'm impressed. *HIGH* production values, good theme and mood background music, attention to detail and a very suspense-filled start. Hope the remainder of the series delivers what this promises.
This has a similar vibe to Event Horizon and the Matrix (onboard the Nebuchadnezzar) which are movies I'm very fond of. While this was a very short episode it was engaging and thought provoking. Very nice use of low-key lighting to add to the drama and claustrophobia. I can't wait to see the rest of this series. Very exciting stuff.
As a big lover of Event Horizon, My thoughts exactly! Definately a well crafted short. I would love to see this as a 2 hour movie! My congratulations to the film team that organized this! In 9 minutes it felt so much longer! - Bravo
I stopped watching dust movies sometime ago. So many of them were done by artist snobs who disdain you if you don’t get their message in the film. His was really good. You’ve drawn me back in. Great job across the board: acting , VFX, music, storyline etc. looking forward to the rest.
That's phenomenal, super excited to see more. This must have cost you a fortune and taken ages. You should all be proud of yourselves, the end product is stunning.
If you're looking at the comments to see if it's worth investing an hour in the full 7-episode arc of this series, the answer is YES. It's excellent and you will be glad you did.
The score & The gloomie claustrophobic nature of some surroundings of this DUST short, instantly reminds me of the alien franchise I was quite happy about that!, quite impressed too with one of the ships design reminiscent of a juggernaut. Not many modern sci-fi ships resemble a vague juggernaut design resemblance .
Well, I'm glad that its a series and there are several more episodes, because I'm still none the wiser as to what's going on... other than that the cop and lone female character have history!
Okay, this first episode is really phenomenal and leaves you breathless. Can't wait to see the next episodes! Gorgeous and perfect soundtrack. I'm too intrigued by the fact that the name ATROPA is the opposite of the word PORTA A in Italian (DOOR A). I love these things!
@@kevinrieplmusic Yeah, I also thought the soundtrack was what you would expect from a sci-fi film/series, actually exceeding my expectations. I'm looking forward to a new episode. Congrats on the awesome work!
I have watched the whole series and was totally addicted, this would have been something I would have watched on TV. Well done, very well written and acted, loved every minute of it.
I just finished watching the first three episodes and I have to say - this is amazing! Thank you! Great job. Sending to all of the sci-fi buff's I know.
Well done. All the right hints given without using a sledgehammer. Nice subtle touch. Acting is spot on for the characters thus far. I think I know who dies tragically, but I'm not sure. Well done.
its funny you say that. My score for ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES was used as temp music for the PILOT, which was obviously influenced by Goldsmith & Horner. so....yeah. It's really not too far of a stretch to say a good chunk of this score is inspired by said soundtracks.

After watching the entire series, I come back to comment on the first: watch them all. Very satisfying.
Excellent Two parallel Universes colliding in real time. what a cliffhanger!!

Wow! Whoever made this needs to make a series on Netflix!!!
I like the ingenuity of how the officers ship moves with independently moving engines.
And also engines on the front for slowing down which other movies dont use in their ship designs
or how we're in a future where there is apparently fully functional artificial gravity, yet they can't cobble together a basic navigation system for their ships.

One of the best shorts I have seen yet. Perhaps THE best.
Worthy of the big screen. Bravo! 🤗
Intrigue. Suspense. Ominous Opener. Jolting conclusion. Outstanding. Best Dust yet!
