I played this trumpet a few years ago at Frankfurt music fair and it was without any doubt the best piccolo that I tried on that day and, believe me, I tried out a lot of different brands.
As a fan of Bach Strad instruments, I really enjoyed this review. Makes me wish I had the money to go out and buy one. I guess it's just as well that I don't have the money for one, because I definitely don't have the chops to play one like it deserves to be played. Thanks for the informative and entertaining review!
Hi Richard, I saw your comment on this and my older version of the same review and I greatly appreciate your words of support. Although I cannot imagine it easy to be an older or comeback player, I’m sure with dedication things will fall into place, and I wish you all the best. Speaking of money, though-in recent years the trumpet market has become so ridiculous that now it is almost always better to buy gently used, not new. Leave the “new” purchases to the rich, snobby parents who think their twelve year-old needs a brand-spanking-new Bach Stradivarius and then swipe it up two years later when the kid gets bored and quits and the horn gets put up on auction. Haha!
@@SamuelPlaysBrass speaking of the trumpet market, I know what you mean. I've seen the prices. I have 4 pro-quality trumpets, and only one was bought new. The other 3 (a Conn Vintage One, an L.A. Benge, and a Mt. Vernon Bach Strad) were purchased at various times on eBay. The one that was purchased new was bought by my parents for 14-yr-old me in the fall of 1975 shortly after the beginning of my sophomore year in high school (I started school a year early in private school before transferring to public school, so yes, I was only 14 at the beginning of my sophomore year). Our new band director wanted to get as many of us as possible out of our student model cornets and into pro-quality trumpets. He struck a deal with Wichita Band Instrument Company (don't ask me how a south Texas band director found Wichita Band Instrument Co. before the days of the internet) to sell silver-plated Bach Stradivarius trumpets to the school at a special school discount price. They were shipped and invoiced to the school, but then immediately re-sold by the school to the students at that special school price. So, my shiny brand new silver 1975 Bach Stradivarius Model 43 lightweight was purchased for me by my parents for (are you ready for this?) $365. Yeah, even in 1975, that was cheap. That horn has some significant plating wear around the outside of the valve casings, but is still in fine playing condition today. Slap a leather guard around the valve block to cover the wear, and it looks almost as good as new, almost 45 years later. I quit playing after high school, but picked the horn back up in the mid 1990s and still play today on a limited basis--just don't have the chops to play much in the range where a picc shines.
@@drzoidberg71 I know right? In all seriousness, it’s the fact that the existing parts are so much less standard. You have to manufacture four-piston casings with fixed 2nd slides (with a narrower distance between slide tubes no less), a totally different bell, totally different leadpipe, etc… it ends up being much more expensive to manufacture a piccolo trumpet despite it being far less material than a standard trumpet.

Have you ever played a Great 190 mL 65 Bell
Unfortunately this instrument is the only model 190 I've had experience with.
never understood why piccolo trumpets are so expensive. Shouldn't they be half the price of a normal trumpet? It is half the size after all.

Dang the sweater is the same, the voice is the same, playing very different lol
That's the hope! There's a lot of playing and misinformation that I hope to go back on and correct in some of my older videos.
