    I have built a few of these over the years and found that adding a red LED into the ckt allows you to see the light in noisy areas and if you use the light only it does not disturb workers in an office environment. You can add an on/off/on three position switch for switching between the light or tone. The video is very well explained. Good job.

    This is a continuity tester not a cable finder .

      I agree with you! I used this title because i am using it to find cables.

    Continuity tester is what I would call your gadget a signal generator and receiver is a true cable tracer

      It's not a very good one. You don't want to pump 12V on any voltage sensitive equipment. A better design would use a transistor or FET for turning on the speaker a capacitive sensor.

    Very good! I am very curious how you can use this to find cables that are already terminated in patch panel!

      I think you meant a cable that's patched into a switch already????

    When I search for a shorted 12 volt circuit to ground on semi-trailers , I place a 12 volt buzzer inline . A live 12 volt line to one side of the buzzer and the other buzzer wire to the shorted circuited wire . The sounding buzzer will stop after tugging , pulling. , or unwrapping the harnesses , then repair . If the annoying buzzer is too loud place electrical tape over the buzzer sound vent . 6/7/23

      Instead of a buzzer a 12 volt an incandescent lamp may be used , this lamp will put more of a current draw on the circuit than an LED lamp . Use alligator clips on these fixtures . A small amount of tape quiets the buzzer significantly .

    How would you use this in coaxial cable setuup

    • @PoseidwnTech
      @PoseidwnTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used it sometimes with coaxial cable. I connected the cable finder to coper wire and foil shield of the coaxial cable.

      I used for the tutorial a 6 to 9Volts Buzzer so i used a 9Volts Battery.

    Is this only good for finding short circuits?

    • @PoseidwnTech
      @PoseidwnTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am using it as a cable finder due to it's small size and cost but only for low voltage cables.

    Or buy a multimeter...

    • @PoseidwnTech
      @PoseidwnTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are right with the multimeter you can do the same. The only problem with the multimeter is that the “beeb” is not loud enough. On the other hand this cable finder has a buzzer and it ‘s easy to hear it in a noisy environment. Also it is small and cheap!
