  • Today, I interview Hue Eller. Retired Military, living in the Bocagrande neighborhood of Cartagena Colombia. Hue shares with us his process for purchasing an apartment in the Miami of Colombia. He has waterfront views in this upscale apartment just a few minutes walk from the tourist favorite Walled City. He talks about this real-estate purchase and how he made the decision to purchase here and Yes, he is Happy.
    Live a Life Well Travelled. Life is a journey. Get Off The Sofa!
    Welcome to my channel!
    I am sharing my travels with short videos. Are you retired, single, bored? Maybe divorced? You are not alone. You are not "too old", "too tired" or "too broke"! "You just can't think of anything good to do." - Ferris Bueller
    I am a retired Air Force vet. Divorced. Living on a fixed income. A drastic change from my last 40 plus years of service before self, at home and my worklife. I had to find a new purpose. I was told "The purpose of Life is to live a life of purpose." And that I should travel.
    Traveling has been amazingly rewarding. My Mission/Purpose is to encourage others like myself to Get Off the Sofa!
    This is a tough time to travel, no doubt, but sitting on the sofa is not an option. I hope to encourage you to get out there! Make the most of the life and resources you have. Live a life of Gratitude!
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Traveling alone can be lonely. So is sitting on the sofa, swiping left!
    If you like what I am doing, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe, then, get off the sofa and get going.

    This interview was very informative. I wish Hue would elaborate more on those apartments in Boca Grande for $1,100.00 a month. I am currently making plans for a six month stay in January and the Airbnb prices are ridiculous for Boca Grande.

    • @delberttuckermedia
      @delberttuckermedia  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have not checked lately but I noticed prices are higher there in general than Medellin. And with inflation going around the world right now, I am not surprised that prices are higher. I paid much more for my flights this month than I did just earlier this years. Please note, he was talking about long term rentals. The longer you rent, the better discounts you can get, sometimes. High season will always cost more. One thing I do if I don't know for sure I want to rent fa place long term, I will check to see if the place has a month available, then rent for two or three days, then when I get there, if I like it, I will then rent for two weeks or a month to get the discount. But I do risk that the other dates can be taken up by another renter.

    Yes, I've stayed in Boca Grande, down in El Laguito, and a few other places in Cartagena. I loved it so much I looked into the apartments I stayed in, and they were starting at 230k right across from the beach. For what it offered it wasn't bad, right across from the beach, ocean view, balcony, pool etc. A little too pricey for me. I've done real estate searches there on and off over the years and I can say for sure it is better to search from being on the ground. Good interview.

    Very Nice interview! I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but the sound is not the best, so it can be difficult to hear what is being said. However, when you added the Music, it made it even more difficult. So maybe you can skip the music while the interview is taking place, although the song was really nice. Also, I have Liked and Subbed!!

    Nice to see the retired military experience.
    I keep finding videos of 20 something year old digital nomads.
    I just retired from the military myself and I'll be landing in Cartagena next week for Spanish lessons. Planning on staying a month then checking out either medellin or bogota. Not sure yet.

    • @mr.oliver5752
      @mr.oliver5752 ปีที่แล้ว

      @lavarstarzz7811 I just got back from Medellín and had a blast. In my opinion, Cartagena is a 2-4 day max excursion/vacation destination, and Medellín is a home base.
      My only recommendation is to learn Spanish. It's an absolute must. I met a Navy vet at a Spanish school in Medellín I was going to who is damn near fluent, and hanging out with him made EVERYTHING so much easier.
      I'd definitely recommend signing up for Spanish lessons and linking up with some of the more fluent students.
      A) It gave me a daily agenda. A set, scheduled purpose with some structure and stability.
      B) You learn Spanish. A must in Columbia.
      C) You can meet people, find interesting locations to visit, and potentially better accommodations. I moved 3 times. Each time was better and cheaper than the last.

      I used the same lawyer he used to buy his place Cartagena to buy my place in the neighborhood Laureles in Medellin. It is a crapshoot for how long you visa will be if it is for retirement visa from 1 to 3 years. Unless you are in a big hurry try to rent in the location you are interested in for 3 to 6 months to avoid buyers remorse. I’m not an expert in this area but if I get requests I will interview people who are to get answers.

    • @delberttuckermedia
      @delberttuckermedia  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      MONEY! You should know which visa you qualify for and how long you can stay. The basic tourist visa is for 90 days and you can get a 90 day extension to give you six months in a year. There are many other visas that will depend on you goals. You can find info at apps.migracioncolombia.gov.co/pre-registro/public/preregistro.jsf. I will be interviewing my lawyer about immigration and purchasing property and take you thru my purchase process. Please subscribe and ring the notification bell so you will catch all that information in real time.
