9:41 since nettle drone has devoid, it’s ping damage will not be replaced with axonil’s ability. Axonil specifies red sources and devoid makes it have no color.
@@Rice_Spicee its an easy thing to miss! I only caught it because a buddy built morophon as 5 color colorless so he could have a decent home for the less powerful eldrazi that actually works (he whoops my ass most of the time when he plays it unless i play pubstompy stuff against it, so its clearly not a bad call lol)
One include for pingy decks like these that Ive loved since highschool is Chandra's spitfire. 2R for a 1/3 creature elemental with flying and whenever AN opponent is dealt noncombat damage it gets +3/+0 until end of turn. You just need a few table pings and can very easily get in for lethal on someone super early on even without your commander if its getting removed
Had a casual Spitfire deck... That was a nasty little deck. Ran every form of one or less burn spell ranging from Gut Shot to Lava Dart and and ran the Llorwyn Flamekin to tutor, ramp, and add extra burn with Cinder Pyromancer. The deck could turn that Spitfire massive out of nowhere.
Another creature for the targeted ping effects that is good is imodane the pyrohammer because why shock 1 person when you can target a creature and send the same damage to all opponents?
1:25 something worth noting for axonil: the back side doesn’t specify that the 4 noncombat damage had to be dealt to an opponent. So if you have something like a mana barbs, or descent into avernus, you can use the damage against yourself to flip it back over, before you ever do anything else.
Love that you went with a very budget deck option. It can be ramped up with cards like Manabarbs or Pyrohemia, but it's not necessary to have it play well (and strong). IMO, everyone should have a deck like this to speed up games at your table when things are getting slow!
Speaking of LCI as a set, i bought veloci-ramp-tor precon the other day, and the collector booster sample had a non-foil full art cavern of souls. I was pretty excited, not that i needed it or anything i have a couple and proxies of it, but still i pulled a full art mythic edh staple!
Maybe someone mentioned this, but I would also recommend Grapeshot. With so many small spells being cast on Axonil's turn, massive damage can be dealt. Also, Grapeshot is about 25 cents, so it is very budget friendly.
Yeah grapeshot is great. You don't need to be a typical storm deck for it to be absolutely devastating. Even just as the 3rd or 4th spell, especially since it creates multiple spell casting triggers for all your permanents that care about those.
I just deck teched this yesterday on a $75 budget. You are missing out on acidic soil at like $1 as a massive haymaker. Reprecussion which is under $3 and mana barbs as well. End the festivities and Tectonic hazard are also solid.
Acidic soil’s errata says “acidic soil deals damage to each player equal to the number of lands they control” So it won’t be a bunch of pings multiplied, it’s just one sum. Still can get a lot of damage for 3 mana though but it becomes more symmetrical.
I did a rough calculation with Axonil, Solphim, End the Festivities, City on Fire, Erebor Flamesmith...And a few other things, the max was around 36k damage from a 1 damage hit on all creatures, players, and planeswalkers.
Don't know if you know, but when a single instance triggers multiple replacement effects, the affected player gets to decide the order on which those resolve. For this same reason I ended up cutting every damage doubler and the like, for more pump effects for Axonil. In your example, I would first resolve either Solphim or City on Fire then the other (in both cases the damage would be 6), then Axonil (which would do nothing). So 6 damage from the Spell and 6 from the ping, for a grand total of 12. Hope it helps!
Repercussion - Any damage dealt to a creature is dealt to that creature's controller. Chandra's Ignition - Target creature deals damage equal to its power to each creature and each opponent. Even with an unmodified Ojer, each opponent is taking 4*(number of creatures they control + 1), which can be deadly if they have a lot of tokens. Even without Ojer, just substitute Chandra's Ignition with Blasphemous Act, then they're taking 13*(number of creatures they control), and GGs.
So excited to see this video. I just built this deck when the new set came out. I added a few more cards that were not necessarily land, hate or land destruction. But ramp hate. I figure I'm in red if I can't ramp screw the green players 😂 Blood moon Magus of the Moon Citadel of pain Cemetery gatekeeper Manabarbs Price of progress War's toll Zo-Zu The punisher If blood moons not your thing, it can always be replaced by burning Earth which deals damage but personally I never run blood moon and I really wanted a reason. Thanks, wizards!
Side note. The alternate art for this card is beautiful! And the full art lands from the set "unfinity" is a freaking eclipse!!! The moon covering the sun!!! Super flavorful. Love those lands!
I have taken this idea in another direction. 10-20% are "deal 1 damage to all opponents" and the remaining cards are "Whenever an opponent ..., deal 1 damage." (like manabarbs). SELF BURN
I would replace Nettle Drone, a non-bo, with You've Been Caught Stealing. The card synergizes as a non-creature, mana positive, ramp spell that creates artifacts meaning that you get multiple pinger triggers and it sets up another round of damage
I built this deck the second I was able to get my hands on Ojer. It is the strongest deck I have ever used, and it is currently undefeated since it does not look threatening at all when you sit down at a pod. I will be so sad when this reputation eventually catches on and people won't play against it lmao.
I am so glad you did this video! You took the deck in a bit of a different direction than I did. I used a lot of instant and sorcery spells to pump Ojer Axonil to tap/untap the pingers. As I started building the deck, I loved how budget it was.
How could you not include Mana Clash ($0.71) you and a opponent keep flipping coins to damage each other until both come up heads at same time. the 1 damage to you stays the same and the 1 damage to them becomes Commander's power.
Repercussion is also a really funny enchantment with Ojer and a bunch of ping all creatures for 1 spells since every creature will take one repercussion will deal 1 for each creature to its controller which will then be pumped up to Ojer’s power
A little late and probably someone already said it: You showed a creature to be part of the deck, an Eldrazi pinger, that won't work with Axonil as it is Devoid ( colorless )
I have a ghyrson pinger deck already. But ojer axonil looks like a really strong commander. Especially if you can up his power level. Ghyrson has blue so card draw and protection is a bonus. Really want to build this deck also.
This dude was the top of my must buy/brew list for this set. I have a feeling the deck might be too strong for my pod even throttled down. Just seems insane!
This commander seems rad but imo it’s only going to work on a pod once and then people will realize they just need to deal with Ojer Axonil. There’s so many ways to “deactivate” him. I’d personally try to sprinkle in some protection for him via other equipment darksteel plate, whispersilk cloak, lightning greaves ect. in an attempt to make him a bit harder to kill. There is certainly ways to make this more efficient and lethal but idk if it’s possible on a low end budget.
So honestly with how busted this commander is I’m surprised he only needs 4 damage done to flip back over. Normally stuff like this requires 7+ damage done and it needs to be to AN OPPONENT (see the red hideaway land), but this just says “deal 4 or more noncombat damage with a red source” so that means it could be 4 damage split among any targets as long as you control the source. So one activation of pyrohemia fulfills the requirement multiple times over.
??Newbie Question?? Since it Transforms, does Ojer Axonil get around the "Commander Tax"? If not, when is it paid? Thanks in advance for any clarification!
commander taxs adds up for every time you need to cast your commander from the command zone. So it dying and turning into a land will not influence the commander tax no matter how often you do this...
Raid bombardment and cavalcade of calamity each deal one to player or planes walker whenever a creature you control with power two or less or power 1 (respectively) attacks. Cheap spells that create 1/1 tokens to destroy your opponents. Oooh and scald to mess with blue players
Valakut exploration is an amazing card for this deck. It is inexpensive, gives you impulse draw, and pings all opponents if you don’t play the exiled card.
@patrickcamus2842 Yep you are right cause Ojer overrides the doubling. If it's just straight doubling then it doesn't matter what order cause 2 x 2 is always 4.
@@meb212 because weird rule that says that if 2 replacement effect want to apply at the same time the affected player chooses the order of them. So opponent who is taking 1 damage is just going to choose to triple the damage and then Ojer making it kind of useless most of the times.
This seems fun but is definitely a one trick pony deck that will only work once at Friday Night Magic. After people see the deck in operation they will understand that the commander is a kill on sight situation. Once / if the commander is dealt with then this deck kinda seems dead in the water.
