A rare but welcome tribute.
I remember the morning after the 9-11 attacks, Queen Elizabeth broke protocols by instructing the palace guards to play American patriotic songs and the American national anthem at the changing of the guards ceremony . Classy move by the Yankees to do the same.
Yep, and I remember when NBA teams like the Knicks did a similar gesture at one of their games after Paris was bombed in 2015, playing 'La Marsellaise' as a tribute to the victims of that terrorist attack back then. Even the Royals showed their respect for England as did the Yanks. And notice: Everyone was standing for BOTH National Anthems.
JeterSwisherFan88 yeah I remember the day after the Paris attack, England played France at football at Wembley and the whole stadium sung the La Marsellaise, the game never mattered that day. it's good to see, it gives you some hope in a troubled world.

While I whole heartedly appreciate the gesture, as someone from Northern Ireland, I can't lie that I got a little pissed off that he called our country "The United Kingdom of Great Britain".
I've never heard anyone say that before, it's inaccurate and wrong. You can't just leave off half the country's name. It's a bit of a kick in the teeth.

They played God Save The Queen also at the 2005 All Star Game after the London Terror Attack. That had me in tears as a British guy watching on TV
I am a Londoner and remember very well American National Anthem being played at Buckingham Palace the day after 9/11 It was the first time in history that another National anthem had being played with out the head of state from that country being present. A very emotional moving tribute.

Dear Simon, "America" is not a sole and unique country. No one should use this term to describe a sole and unique country. The United States is.a sole and unique country. (The United States of..."America". OK, but WHICH America ? North, Central or South? ) 35 countries do make the American Continents. In Major league baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays - the only non-United Statien team - in Major League Baseball - is in the American league, proving that America has never been a sole and unique country. (Toronto is in the Province of Ontario, in eastern Canada). An American is a person who lives in any of the 35 countries that do make the American Continents. United Statiens are not more nor less Americans than anyone who do live in the 34 other countires that are int he American Continents. (Never send any letters / packages to the United States with - instead - the word "America" as the country,s name, it will not be delivered. In New York City, there is the Avenue of the Americas, with the letter "s" at the end of the word. Another proof that America is not a sole and unique country. So when I read your words "God bless you America" you do mean that God blesses all the 35 countries that do make the American Continents, right? If not, just say God Bless The Untied States .
