- today we dig into the issues with the engine on this cool old 61 chevy corvair that was rescued after sitting since 1969 and we go through the engine and see why it was parked all those years ago and what damage was done to the engine after that long sit!
One of my earliest car guy memoirs is 1982 I was 3, and got to go for a ride in a corvair Monza spyder with the factory turbo. My brother was working on it for a family friend. I’ll never forget that ride with the top down and him banging gears.
I wish I could find one... I've always wanted a sedan though because of the 1961 promo video they did crossing the Darien Gap... You gotta check it out! There's a couple good videos on TH-cam about it! Thanks for watching!
Wow looking forward to the revival engine.
We got a couple project corvairs I think I got lucky the motor is turning over I filled the cylinders with tranny fluid I busted off one spark plug today in the cylinder head good luck with your project
Sounds like you got a good start though... And the heads are pretty easy to remove in a worst case scenario... Good luck with your project as well and thanks for watching!
Wonder if gunk s.c parts cleaner would do any good on rust internally
Willing to bet a service attendant back in 1969 put water in it on the oil fill tube; Thinking it was low on coolant. It would not be the 1st time that has happen to a Corvair engine.
I wouldn't be surprised... The intake on the engine is pretty shielded from water and moisture so it's an oddity to me too... Thanks for watching!
😪
Pretty convinced that car was submerged in water
I thought about filling the engine with CLR before I found the bent rod... If you subscribed you will see the engine I picked up to replace it... It's a revival all on its own! Thanks for watching!
Fill that crankcase full of diesel. It will come loose.
With the bent connecting rod it's gonna need a rebuild anyhow and the rust was bad enough and the camshaft being below the crank on that engine is probably pitted rust that will wipe out the lifters in a matter of minutes... I'm gonna do a full tear down on the channel when I pull it out to see how bad it really was! Stay tuned to see the engine I picked up for it! Thanks for watching!
Take the engine out rebuild
I've found a replacement... That's gonna be my next video... It's really easy to swap engines and unless it's a corsa or a Spyder.... There's no negative consequences to upgrading to a more powerful late model corvair engine... Thanks for watching!
