    Looks really good Tina! Just wanted to give 3 tips as a former artschool student who graduated in painting :)
    1) You can actually water down gesso, this way you’ll need less (that stuff can get expensive if you make big paintings).
    2) It is more common to first paint on the canvas and afterwards making it into/on a frame. Sometimes your canvas will stretch a little bit while painting (that’s why pre-made frames from the artstore come with these small wooden bits, they help stretch your canvas/frame again). When you make the frame after painting, you don’t have to worry about the stretching part :) We would just stick the canvas onto a wall with tape or stick it on a piece of wood and put it on an easle, this way you won’t miss the frame while painting!
    3) Last tip: you can paint on many different materials, canvas is the best but for example burlap is also possible. Just make sure to gesso it well! Look around at your local thriftshop, sometimes you’ll find big pieces of those materials for little prices (look at the curtains for example! Just make sure it’s not synthetic or stretchy 😊).
    (edit: typo)

      Yes! Everything you posted I have done too! Drop cloth (you can buy drop cloth curtains of course too) make great curtains, tapestries, etc. and the secret is to moisten the material with a spray bottle/mister prior to painting and misting when paint is only setting on top for blending. made a beautiful Anthropology “knock off) tapestry and it turned out beautifully!

    Yeah, I would never use screws for this, unless you were using like, 2x4s to make a really bulky frame. The wood glue is really what makes the joint strong anyway. Source: used to be a scenic carpenter, and if we tried to save money by taking apart old flat or platform frames to re-use the lumber, if they'd been wood glued? Forget about it, not coming apart even when the screws were out.

    Okay, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, correct me if I am wrong, but I was always under the impression that you should not use water to thin your acrylic paints. I do know there are mixing mediums which you can use instead and I always thought that this was because it messes with the paint and it can flake or peal off. It seems like Tina is treating the paint like water color but I dont think that is what you do? If I am wrong, just ignore me. I would just hate for her to have put all this work in and it flake off. Spraying it with a sealant of some kind may work as well?

    • @JaneSmith0709
      @JaneSmith0709 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's true. If you talk to seasoned artists they will tell you this. If you plan on keeping the painting long-term you should always use a mixing medium and not water for acrylics.
      No beginner will get everything right, though, so I didn't want to leave her a discouraging comment. She did great for a first timer. If she pursues this hobby I'm sure she'll eventually figure out not to use water, especially that much of it. But it made me happy to see how happy she was with her project, and I was glad she shared it, it encourages others to try.
