  • So this is a video of how I installed a handlebar switch in to the harbor freight badlands 2500 winch. I didn't get rid of the wireless unit, just added the handlebar switch. I'm working on a 2016 Yamaha Kodiak 700 SE, check it out.

Great video. When I wired mine up, the wire code was backwards. So word to the wise. Still works with both remote and switch 👍🏼

Londoloco, forgot to mention on the circuit board the blue is attached as “A”, the blk as “OV”, the red as “+12v” and finally the wht as “B”. Hope this helps some, as I’m completely confused on this one. Wink

How did you mount it? I have almost the exact same setup instead mine is the 2016 Kodiak 700 Base Model. I want to mount my Badlands 2500 lb winch but the bracket I got with it isn't wide enough to reach the pre-drilled holes to mount a winch onto.

KodiaKhaos 700 check out the link in my previous comment. It has the mount I used

TY--awesome video! The green to yellow and black to white (wiring) worked perfectly and now have both the remote, and the handle bar switch. Primarily use my winch for ATV snow plow. My previous winch, Badlands 2000, cable got all messed up when solenoid shit the bed and winch just stayed on... Was perplexing on how to do this for the new Badlands 2500 winch and your video was spot-on!!!

How with water ? Have you been to any mud holes lately. I just bought one of these 2500 winches at my local Hf haven't installed it yet tho but I'm scared of going to any mud hole lol

I just did this. But I had to do the opposite of what you did.

Yeah, it is too short so I had to mount it with this: www.kfiproducts.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=604
Be careful though because with this mount bracket it's recommended to get a different roller fairlead. I chose to round out the holes on the fairlead that came with the winch and was able to make it work. Good luck.

My handlebar switch looked identical to yours, but the colors seemed to be opposite. In is out and out is in. Doh! Oh well, i can always cut and re-splice. Just a tip or two though. When i took apart the control box, it showed signs of water and some mud getting in, after re-assembly, i used a hot glue gun to seal it up. Also, never leave slack in cable. Mine unwound from vibrations, then it started to jam up. I actually use a rubber tie down strap looped and bolted when i bring the hook up to the rack. Keeps cable taught without over torquing it.
I remember when my grizzly looked that clean. Mine’s a 2016 and its been through hell.

Londoloco, great video. I have an older HF 3K pound winch with remote, I want to change this too a wired switch ILO the wireless remote. Ive opened my control box and it has two relays plus a circuit board, the circuit board I assume is for the wireless remote. Question I have is off this cb there are 4 wires, a wht, red, blue and a blk. The blk and wht go to one relay and blue and red to the other. How do I determine which wire/s I will need for the switch? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wink

Do you have pics? The blue and white are gonna be for your in/up out/down. You should be able to completely get rid of wireless and run wires directly off the main cb.
