In the end I'm glad I built my system from discreet components. I gave power stations to my sisters for emergency use (no-name for $0.30/watt-hour!) but for my camper van I wanted lots of watt-hours. Spending enough to get more energy makes my investment high, so I like to be able to replace or upgrade the different parts of the system, rather than replacing a whole power station if, say, the inverter fails. I've already upgraded the battery, easy-peasy.
Curious what inverter/ battery/ panels you went with? I want to build my own but I think for my situation, the DJI 1000 PS makes the most sense though if anything goes wrong I not to confident with the warranty situation. They did hit honor the $200 automatic replacement package with the DJI care more bundle i bought with the Mavic pro 2. I got the runaround until literally the day it expired when they finally sent me the code I needed, which at that point it was no good. They actually mocked me in the chat. Something has to give if you know what I mean
I was waiting for these and the pricing is way off in the market. I just got another Bluetti AC180(around 1080:watt hours)for $411 on special. I think their projected prices aren’t going to sell many units. Too bad The 11,500 tri fuel on the other hand will be in my garage…

You will get twice the power and run time for your money making your own, than buying one of these from any company. But it is convenient to buy an already made commercial power box. Just that it will cost more.

SWEET! It will be very nice to be able to buy a power station at a local store, rather than having to buy online and have it shipped, like is the case with every other big brand power station.
The small one is similar to a Bluetti EB3A. I have 2 that I use as ups for my pellet stoves, but will only run it for 2 hours. With a 12v Lifepo4 battery connect to the solar input I get 10 hours. EDIT Doesn't look like the small one has a UPS feature.

I am pretty sure these predator power stations do not have MPPT solar tracking for the charging circuit and probably just PWM instead. This would explains why the input Max charging voltage is so low. This is going to be a big pass for me. I guess they would be ok if your not planning on recharging it out in the field and instead just planning on charging it back up on wall power when you get home. Charging would be pretty slow with a PWM charging circuit. One of the advantages with MPPT you can have a higher voltage solar panels and still able to charge your power station even in lower light conditions.
HF needs to help the RV folks with a model that competes with Genmax 7250. Love my Predator 5000 but it’s not quite powerful enough for full-time boondocking. The Genmax 7250 has the right amount of power in the right overall dimensions. But my Genmax has not been reliable and impossible to get service. Back to using my Predator 5000 and waiting for HF to come out with that next size up.

I have about 10 of these lithum inverters from various manufacturers, mostly Ego, Bluetti, Ecoflow and Jackery and really like them. I also made 2 monster sized ones myself with 5KwH each to run the freezers over a week. The reason the one panel didn't come on is because you just tap the on switch, instead of holding it down (unlike Main Power) .

The 50 volts on the biggest unit is gonna be a problem. I think my 340 watt panels are like 39volts. So at best maybe 1 400watt panel. That might produce 300watts for 4 hours a day. Your gonna run out power. Say you have a power outage. Fridge only. Uses probably 1500watts. In 4 hours you put 1200watts back in the unit(from solar). In 2 to 3 days. You are at zero.
your fridge will use about 1400watts a day. From my experience with power units so far. You will not be able to keep a full size fridge running more than 3 days max. With the biggest unit. You just can't put enough power back in from the power your gonna use.
You know what is funny. Anything that charges through usb I can charge my solar panel. If this thing has a usb input well I two ports to charge through solar.
@ACommenterOnTH-cam Don't be so sure. We have fiber optic internet. In the past 18 months or so, we've had several power outages here on the Texas Gulf Coast. The fiber optic has not lost signal even when the local cell towers have lost power. Cell goes down every time the area loses power. When we power up the Arlo base station along with the wifi router, the video monitoring around the house also works. During the outage caused by hurricane Beryl, we had movie night every evening, complete w AC from a window unit, internet, and even popcorn thanks to our generator and solar generator, fiber optic, and gas stove. We also use an internet phone number to make calls and send texts even though the cell service was out. We added an Ecoflow River 2 to power just the wifi and Arlo, and we have smaller power banks that we bought on sale for several of the wifi mesh extenders. We're totally sold on fiber optic and power banks/solar generators. 80% of the time, when we've lost power, it's been during hot and humid weather. IMO, there's not a cost-effective means to run even a small window ac on battery power more than a day based on only needing to do so only once or twice a year. So we use a very fuel efficient small generator for powering a window ac unit and the fridge/freezer. We store a good bit of gas for emergencies, but I still wish we had a tri fuel generator. But based on past experiences, we should be good for a 7 to 10 day outage with what we have.

Over $2,000 dollars for a Harbor Freight Generator yet only comes with a 90 day warranty, Sorry but that is a huge fail once again and shows the lack of faith Harbor Freight has in that big Predator generator.
But you have to admit the stuff is also getting a little better as well. I remember several years ago you know you bought the tool to use the one or two times and didn’t expect much. Now some of the stuff works very well and doesn’t break or lasts longer than expected. Especially for the once a year type job
Inverter generators are a GIMMICK and waste of $$. Voltage regulation is FAR more important than Inverting it from AC to DC and back to AC. Inverter generators have more electronics involved which means more room for failure because there is too much electronics involved. KISS ... keep it simple, AC generator direct to panel with Voltage regulation to prevent voltage spikes.
Many newer electronics can't handle a standard non inverter power and will either shorten the life of the products or outright cause them to fail. Inverter generators are well worth the money. The difference between pure sine wave and modified sine wave is bigger than people think.
@@mustangecoboosthpp3869yep, Inverter is the only way to go for longer term power. You do have to maintain them though. My $4K 8KW Honda Inverter went south because I didn't start it enough.
@@mustangecoboosthpp3869 There are ZERO reports of newer or sensitive electronics being "damaged" by non inverter generators. Yes there is a difference between modified and pure sine wave, most gasoline generator DO produce a full sine wave. Cheap battery inverters produce a modified sine wave which "can" damage, but again, there is NO proof of this. I ran my basic old school generator for 7 days on the 1st hurricane and another 6 days on the 2nd hurricane and it ran everything in the house just fine. And FYI, i never mentioned Modified vs Sine wave ... My comment was about "inverter" generators vs basic generators. Basic generators DO produce a full sine wave.

Great detailed overview but you failed to talk about the size and weight of the power packs. Looking at the specs you showed I must say that is very disappointing. 34lbs for a 1000Wh vs like 21lbs for the new Jackery. Just saying.
good news, they call them power stations instead of solar generators.... hahahaaaa.... sadly , HF has been raising the prices so watch out your wallet!
Expect prices to be 10-20% higher starting next year.
@SoFlPNW Why? Let me guess orange man bad.
Frame rate is too low. This video is a slide show. Film in 1080p30 and upscale in post to 4k if you're trying to save battery.
Played just fine for me....
Over $2,000 dollars for a Harbor Freight Generator yet only comes with a 90 day warranty, Sorry but that is a huge fail once again and shows the lack of faith Harbor Freight has in that big Predator generator.
Way overpriced.
$200? Going to be >300 now with Trump Tariffs. I can't wait to see how expensive HF products become under this new administration.
@@gymkhanadog calm down Sally
@jimmaag4274 Why? It's a very valid concern after all the damage his tariffs did the first time around.
@@gymkhanadogYou will have a very hard time explaining to simple minded individuals.
Harbor freight is getting just as expensive as everyone else
But you have to admit the stuff is also getting a little better as well. I remember several years ago you know you bought the tool to use the one or two times and didn’t expect much. Now some of the stuff works very well and doesn’t break or lasts longer than expected. Especially for the once a year type job
PowerStations are complete GARBAGE ....
They only last so long and need HRS to charge back up.
Rubbish
