  • Neuromodulation works for nerve pain. Spinal Cord Stimulation has been performed for close to fifty years for painful conditions, but now we’re better understanding the discrete nature of how waveforms, the software of neuromodulation, affects the software of the human nervous system. The results continue to improve. W. Porter McRoberts MD practices in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

    I just had this done this week! It has literally given me a new lease on activity in my life. It’s not 100%, but compared with pain levels between 8-10 constantly with taking 11 pain pills a day, the pain has gone down and I am able to walk, stand without pain. I am testing the length and longevity of these activities which I was able to walk around a large store shopping and pain did start but as soon as I sat down it started going away! This procedure has enabled me to give part of my life back which I thought was completely gone.

    Great news for this guy. I hope this technology to develop and spread. We really need better solutions for pain patients.

    I like your patient, have the same pain problems. The neuropathy is the biggest problem because it took my ability to walk distances away from me. On the first day of the Never HF10 trial I had NO lower back, hip or thigh pain. NONE. By the fifth day, the neuropathy began to subside. The "concrete deadness" of my legs and feet began to dissipate. I walked 3/4 of a mile without pain for the first time in seven years! by the sixth-day, the neuropathy was just about gone. I have scheduled the Nevro Omnia implant for April 7th. I know, it seems like too long to wait but, I still have to mesh this implant with my office's project schedule. I have noticed however that after the trial I am not sleeping as well as pre-trial. I know, weird right. Anyway.
    Thanks for posting this video focusing on neuropathy. My entire focus for the Nevro was, "will it help my neuropathy"? Yes, it did. I hope that the final implant will bring the same results as the trial.

      Really glad to hear it. Best of luck. Let us know how the permanent implant goes!

    This is so great to see. I'm a type 1 diabetic with severe peripheral neuropathy that makes it so I cant get out of bed or walk or do anything. I just finished my trial with the nevro stimulator a few days ago. As soon as I got it removed my pain was back at full force. I just have to get an EKG and blood work done so I can get the procedure hopefully within the next couple of weeks. This makes me very hopeful and makes me believe I'm making the right choice and going forward with the implantation. I'm so glad that he has relief because neuropathy is such a hard thing to live with as I've been living with it for 8 years now which is nowhere near how long he was living with it. I was a professional dancer ballet tap Jazz hip-hop all of that for 17 years and haven't been able to do that in years. I'm hoping one day I'll be able to do some sort of dancing again.

    I just received mine a two weeks ago. We just turned it on Monday after my staples were removed. How much adjusting do you do before you saw improvement? Meaning...levels on your remote?

    I had been operated on for cervical stenosis and spinal stenosis and a incomplete lower spinal cord injury, I later had 2 neck fusion and 1 lower back fusion plus a total hip replacement, all because of the spinal cord injury all this in less then 3.5 yrs, we've even tried epidurals opiates and medical marijuana nothing works, I'm wondering if this will work for my spinal cord injury, my left arm and hand and both my legs and feet from the waist down are partially paralyzed and the pain is excruciating. But the thought of another surgery and recovery in a nursing home it's almost out of the question I don't know if I can do this again.

    • @wportermcroberts
      @wportermcroberts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you have a good chance of great success.
      Nerve pain from nerve injury is probably the best treated condition by SCS stimulation. However, access to get the leads in the right spot may be complicated by your surgeries. If the surgery was done in the front of the neck then it it quite likely the access will be easy. Best of luck!!

    I suffer from chronic testicular pain and my consultant in the UK is now considering this type of therapy for me. Do you think he is on to something? Thanks.

    • @wportermcroberts
      @wportermcroberts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably the best neuromodulation outcomes for testicular pain is DRG stimulation. Dorsal root ganglion stimulation.

    Does this work if you have peripheral neuropathy not painful but my feet are very numb, leg weakness and I lose my balance easily I'm currently in a walker I'm only 34 yrs old I feel hopeless. Thanks for any info.

    • @wportermcroberts
      @wportermcroberts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly no. It doesn’t reverse or fix loss of sensation or diminished sensation or weakness, it only treats the pain associated with neuropathy. The best of luck.

      I had the same in my hand after it was turned on. If they switch it on in teather and it can be too strong and cause that kind of reaction. It goes away and as soon as they find the right settings for your pain, you won’t look back. Mine is in for two and a half years and it still works perfect. Sorry about that reaction, it feels terrible😳🤦‍♀️

    • @wportermcroberts
      @wportermcroberts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nerve damage and spinal cord injury can occur. It’s rare but not unheard of. Choose your physician well. Choose someone who has done many and has a great reputation. Talk to other doctors in the area who know your proposed doctor. In competent hands the risk is very low.

      @@wportermcrobertsif you have leg pain it would be great. My pain is only from my tailbone up thru T12 and the unit I had was shocking my legs. My nerves were dead in the middle of my back. Do your own research and consult with numerous neurosurgery instead of just your pain Dr. If you get it inserted, insist that staples not be used. These staples cause excruciating pain when you move or the sheet above you is touched. This is only my experience.
