      Thanks! yes it caught us all by surprise. it just came out of nowhere! i think was a saturday, or maybe sunday. it had rained the day & night before and the howard street tunnel had water in it as usual.

      @CSXEMDRailfan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      BaltimoreAndOhioRR i bet you were glad you filmed it,I think the tunnel has water in it most of the time

      @BaltimoreAndOhioRR  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      CSX EMD RAILFAN yes, i was very glad! i always hear about all the interesting stuff that i missed, i'm glad i was there for this one!
      ive never seen it, but many of the other tunnels ive walked in have water running along both sides of the track, sort of like rain gutters in the street, but the tunnels have the water all the time, bacause it seeps down through the ground. when we get big rains, the water gets up on/over the tracks, so thats when they have the problems.

    @Fan Railer If MARC is retiring all electric engines? What will they use on the Penn Line?

    • @quickbus
      @quickbus 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The diesel locomotives. They are already being used on the Penn Line.

    • @a3e12a5x

      ***** Very smart MARC, and here comes NJT to run all of the holiday extras during the Thanksgiving Day Weekend, or perhaps SEPTA, wishful thinking, might replace MARC in adding holiday extras. Unless under extenuating circumstances, no diesel are allowed into either Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amtrak will most likely lend them an engine for the holiday specials, sometime you guys need to think outside the box. When SEPTA needed trains MARC gave us 15 coaches and Amtrak provided electric motive power since we have the same tunnel rules here in Philadelphia. No diesels in the tunnels.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      And by the way, SEPTA Does paticipate with holiday extras, there's usually a SEPTA Push-Pull "protect" train who sits in Penn Coach Yard just in case an Arrow III or MARC set goes down. If one happens to go down, the SEPTA set is put into service. They don't usually chose the SEPTA set first because it's bathroomless. (Our regional rail system is too short for bathrooms.)

    • @kevinwong6588
      @kevinwong6588 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recall hearing that 2015 might been possibly the last year for MARC equipment on the Thanksgiving specials, with the phaseout of AEM7 and HHP8 units.

    so whats the new electric locomotive is it only going to be acs-64

    • @mikeythesoulace
      @mikeythesoulace 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +AmtrakHeritageFan184 I hear that MARC will operate without electrics for now.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No electrics. MARC will be 100% diesel and will run MP36s, GP38s, and very soon 8 brand new Siemens SC-44 Charger Diesel engines. MARC has no restrictions for diesel running on any line so this is actually a better move from them.

      @FanRailer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      MARC is retiring ALL electric locomotives in the next few years.

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the time being, MARC is going 100% diesel. Hopefully, they will see that running electric service on the Penn Line is ultimately more beneficial and worth the extra investment, but it may be a few decades before we see MARC electric trains again after the HHPs and the AEMs go.

    • @a3e12a5x
      @a3e12a5x 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fan Railer Agreed, during the annual Thanksgiving Day Holiday period, they may need to borrow either ACS-64s from Amtrak or the following locomotives from New Jersey Transit (NJT): ALP-46s, ALP-46As, or perhaps the dual mode locomotive ALP-46DP to run into the North River Tunnels under the Hudson River to access New York City's Pennsylvania Station. Unless under extenuating circumstances, diesels are not allowed into either Penn Station or Grand Central Terminal. Perhaps NJT will replace the MARC extras with more NJT extra or perhaps being most likely wishful thinking, SEPTA might come into the act. Ultimately, MARC should consider the dual locomotive ALP-46DP which will work on all their systems ultimately eliminating any excuses for going all diesel.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      MARC being 100% diesel is actually a good thing. You don't have to worry about restricting equipment to one line and mind you, MARC DOES NOT HAVE AN ELECTRIC ENGINE SERVICE FACILITY. Sorry for the caps lock but it seem many are hoping for electrics to return forget you need a facility to fix these kinds of trains. Amtrak was nice enough to let MARC use their Ivy City and Bear Facilities for Electric Engine work but they will no longer carry the parts for the HHP-8 or the AEM-7s so electric service was doomed. Plus even if you got an ALP-45DP, you'd still need access to electrical facility had one of electrical components happen to die and since Amtrak doesn't operate the ALP-45, they will not have those parts handy. MARC will be getting 8 Siemens Charger Diesel starting 2017ish. All holiday trains will be pulled by an Amtrak ACS-64. The recent SEPTA leases kinda gave that away when an Amtrak engine showed up behind the MARC cars sent to Philadelphia. (NYC and Philly have the same diesel engine restrictions in their tunnels.)

    those coaches look strangely similar to the njt bilevels i think

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NJ Transit actually gave away one of their option orders to MARC hence why they are very similar. They're called the Bombardier "Multilevels" not to confuse them with Bi-Level cars Bombardier makes for GO Transit/Metrolink & CalTrain.
