      As she said, it's a lot of work setting up multi shots. Especially when we have to climb the hills and or get off the road to awkward stances to set up then return to the vehicle. And editing can take 5 times as long as it does to do the drives and field work.

    I have always thought woman who drive Tacoma's are "sexy", but woman who drive and can wheel a Tacoma are "sexy as hell". Great review Sara and I totally agree the 4.0 liter was way better.
    But please be careful out there, bring a friend or make sure you always have a way to contact someone. Off roading is a blast out in remote locations, but it can turn from fun to serious real quick. Keep up the great reviews!!!!

    Tacoma reminds me of Harley Davison. They have seemed to kind of rested on their laurels and fallen behind in terms of performance. HD sells a lot based purely on brand recognition and so does Tacoma. Great review! love the offroading!

    This is probably one of my favorite reviews I've seen from you. I literally laughed out loud at my desk when you were playing with the rear window switch. Now everyone in my office thinks I'm a nut...but I digress. In my opinion, the Tacoma TRD Off Road is the sweet spot for this truck. I bought mine last year for around $34k, traded my F150 in for it...yeah it doesn't have JBL speakers or leather, doesn't have all the cool looking TRD Pro equipment (I did add the aluminum skid plate), but it does have a higher ride height, better off road tires, bilstein shocks, and it has MTS and Crawl Control. I think it's very close in terms of capability to the TRD Pro but for much less money. And I test drove a base model Taco and it doesn't even feel like the same league of truck. The base would be a great starting point for anyone who wants to build a rig from scratch though.

    • @WW-wf8tu
      @WW-wf8tu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I bet it's because of what she said how it is too much money. And how you can get a base model to do the same things. ;)

      @@WW-wf8tu you could be correct. I just thought the review was all positive then only 3.5 meatballs. Sarah is usually so upfront. But here I couldn't see why it wasn't 5. And I'm not a fan of this truck. I need more headroom

    I believe the pro has a locking rear differential. A base model probably only has a limited slip rear end. That would be a worthwhile upgrade to a base model.

    Arizona is a beautiful state and I see a lot of potential hiking in those hills and mountains. By the way your outide shots while driving were quite convincing on how steep the drive was (I'm guessing this is were you are using a GoPro). Thank you !

    Great video!! I have a 2016 TRD off road access cab manual. I can tell with certainty you make a better use of the engine’s horse power with the manual transmission. And yes I have taken my truck off road stock (serious and more of a technical terrain)just like I did with my 2000 stock 4Runner years ago. And yes I always modify my trucks but not too heavily because let’s face it 60% of the time will be driven on pavement if not more.
    It’s impressive to see a heavy modified truck going over obstacles but it’s even more impressive to see a skilled driver going over the same terrain with a nearly stock vehicle!

    I’m not an off-roader, but I’d imagine buying a Taco new, then adding after-market parts to make it equivalent to this, would probably make the price around the same as this version.

    • @krymsix574
      @krymsix574 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately the TRD "offroad" stuff Toyota does is really more geared at looking a little different than stock and adding some mild amount more of utility.
      If you check out the forums out there though, you're better off buying an older truck and modding it to its purpose than shelling 50k (realistically over sticker price because of dealer shortages) for a truck that is only mildly capable. There's not much in this video that would be too much for any of Toyotas 4x4s in their stock forms, so why shell 50k for this?
      The video is well done and gets high marks for quality though.
      The truck itself, if you actuallu want to go offroad, get an older one, mod it, save money and feel less bad when you inevitably give it a ding or two on the trails.

    • @woohunter1
      @woohunter1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      KrymSIX the TRD off-road for me was not marked up, $36k, has a rear locker, crawl control, which I'll probably never use and better shocks, however it does look a lot better to me than a sport or Sr5. It does come with street tires and ugly wheels, that's why I changed mine.

    Awesome Dear, the Sweet spot TACO is the TRD OFF ROAD for the money .Just as Capable off road as the TRD PRO for almost $10 g,s Less .Just think of the Possibilities with that savings alone.FYI SARAH, You would be the COOLEST GIRL to WIFEY on You Tube 👀👊👍

    One hundred percent agreed. Toyota uses a perfectly good 4.0L GR in the 4runner. Why the Taco lacks one is puzzling.

      The next Gen 4R will be using the 3.5, they use it in many Toyota and Lexus vehicles

    I think the TRD Offroad around 36K is the best bang for your buck even a bit cheaper if you do the manual. Great review.

    Great review ,I had a 2007 FJ Cruiser and I had a 2013 Tacoma TRD Sport then a 2014 Tundra Crewmax SR5 which i traded for a 2016 Tacoma TRD sport and i agree with you about the engine , the 4.0 Liter was a stump puller and the new 3.5 Liter seems under powered on the bottom end and at Highway cruise speeds it had an annoying habit of hunting for gears ,dropping out of overdrive continuously . The one positive is i got about 4 mog better fuel mileage . Sadly i needed a bigger truck so now i have a 2018 Nissan Titan Pro4X but the Titan is a Sweet ride , happy with it so far

      If you think the 3.5 is underpowered you should drive one with the 2.7 my truck has, 0-60 in two weeks haha

    You really need to go 4 wheeling more! My 4x4 Suburban could go up there. Your facial expressions are priceless!

    Anime fans: Who would win in the desert, a desert dweller or a desert punk? Sarah experts: If she got stuck, would she stay in the truck until somebody came by or ordered food? Also, how many people will accept Sarah's challenge?

    Turn off the ECT , Makes a huge difference in shifts more like the 4.0 when its done. I love my 17 4x4 Sr5 . I hate that the engines tick tick tick so much though

    its better to have an auto when offroading. u have better control. using a stick when climbing from a stop can be tricky. its doable. go crawling next time and see what they are using.

    • @tacocin
      @tacocin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct ... and the lower trim lines she spoke of DO NOT have crawl control - even with an automatic.

    Biggest drawback for the OR and TRDPRO is the tires. The stock tires aren't really off road worthy. More like some kind of street hybrid. The first upgrade I did to my taco was replacing the tires. That puts it above any of the competition in its class.

    Tackled the same road in the vid and you’re right - it’s steep. The only problem was I had a F150 crew cab so I had to make Austin Powers style turns due to the long wheelbase

    3.5 meatballs the 4Runner TRD Pro is even more capable off road because of approach break over and departure angles.
    With you and a little work you could be even more awesome 😜.
    TC nice Review.

    Hell, I average 15-16MPG out of my '03 4Runner with the V8, lift and 33" tires. You should really find someone to take you out and really show you "offroading". I know cameras never show how bad a trail is, but I wonder if that truck could have done the trail in 2WD. I know my 4Runner surprises me by its ability all the time.

    That truck is the perfect color. And yes they should have kept the 4.0 and improved it. The 4.0 in the 4Runner is pretty good. I would love to have one of those in a long bed, with the extended cab, and the turbo.

    Good video. I’m sure a base truck could have handled it but you would need at lead the TRD off road if you wanted crawl control and other goodies that you played with

    Looks like more complexity---more things to break. I prefer the simpler interiors of past Tacomas. I don't mind reaching back and opening the rear window.

    Sarah, please make sure you take a couple days provisions with you doing this alone as a just in case. More than likely you won't need it, but better safe than sorry.
