Some people said that the old man is the same person in the beach, but when they were young and Lana is a ghost, this idea also came from the Shades of Cool mv
I thought the old man was her lover.
@@vladklava0862 He is, but some people speculate that both guys in the music video are the same person, at different ages. Not necessarily true, it’s just a theory.
Actually there is a theory that BtD, Blue Jeans, West Coast and Shades of Cool are connected telling the love/toxic relationship story Lana had and how she died.
It’s about how she leaves a life by the west coast with a guy she loves but instead marries a sugar daddy. It talks about how somber her life is and recounts on her memories with that dude near the coast.
In this mv, Lana tried to describe the reality vs the fantasy. How both are interconnected and how unafraid she is of her own fantasies. Shades of Cool is next ;)

The video is a representation that she got that young, funny and exciting love with the guy on the beach, doing all the goofy stuff and drinking and having a good time
But the reality is the at the end of the day (night) she stays with the older and more serious guy, that makes her feel powerful and glamorous and she sees as a man that she can look up and admire
So she have what she needs, the fun and rollercoaster, the rush and passion and the stability, money, power and glory that the older dude can offer to her.
The boy with whom she can be like a teenager and fooling around and the man with whom she turned into a woman.

Idk if you noticed, but the younger guy during the beach scenes is the same dude from the “Born to Die” and “Blue Jeans” videos. Lana liked using him to play her boyfriends in these videos because she said she reminded him of one of her actual boyfriends.
The older guy during the night car scenes also shows up in the “Shades of Cool” video, which you’ll see soon. Yes, Lana is into older men lol. Sugar daddy stuff. 👀

ultraviolence originally was going to be named melancholia. it was supposed to be a calm, jazz like album but i'm guessing she decided to discard that album and experiment with an alternative rock genre instead. this music video is inspired by the chet baker film, "lets get lost". if you watch the documentary you can see very similar scenes between the two

If you think about it, this is the same guy from Born to die and Blue Jean (though they come from different albums).
To me, she died in BTD, in Blue Jeans she talks about how toxic was the relationship and in West Coast she is haunting that guy when he is old.

This is a lot of people’s favourite Lana album. For me this is my least favourite album but I still adore many of the songs so I think that goes to show how good of an artist Lana is - Even though this isn’t my favourite album I still enjoy a large amount of it.

What is it with "reactors" that they can't just PLAY THE EFFING SONG FROM START TO FINISH and THEN have their say?? The constant pausing is infuriating!
It's because it makes for both a boring reaction and often times things will be forgotten by the time the video ended...
You can always watch the video then read a review if that's your fancy
one thing i do appreciate is that they rewind the song after they’re finished talking so they don’t miss anything. others don’t do that and it irritates me bc i’m always like UR MISSING MY FAV PART
I feel the same when I watch others... And it helps get back into the flow of the song... I understand that everyone wants different styles of reactions, I'm just not a fan of those kinds. I already wish I was more outgoing, because I worry about entertainment value sometimes
