It’s really not the end of the world if a child’s teddy bear has some gum on it. Most parents would probably kinda just get a kick outta this honestly and be like “that’s my three year old.” Even if it does not come out, just make a joke and pretend it’s a little scar teddy got after the kid got gum on him by accident. Years from now, your child is not gonna care if their stuffed animals or clothes got stained with gum. But they will care that you always loved and cared for them no matter what.

I know, it was so sweet. I always loved Mady, she’s a good kid. I know she had her moments and could act out towards her siblings a lot, but I never thought of her as bratty or mean. She’s just got a headstrong personality and can be rather outspoken, which is okay. It’s just her personality. I think many of the poor behaviors we tended to see in her were actually due to stress & frustrations she simply felt from her mother and the TV show growing up. Imagine being a little kid and having cameras follow you everywhere, feeling like your younger siblings get more attention over you, having your tantrums/meltdowns captured for the whole word to see, etc. You’d probably feel just like Mady felt and act out too. Mady showed her true colors here by acting caring & nurturing to her little brother. She gave him a hug and stood up for him to her own mother. She acted like a true big sister here I always thought, and she was only 7. Good Job Mady, you made me so proud here sweetie. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The way Kate speaks to Jon and how she disciplines the children. (Not only the naughty corner was used on the show, but off camera, Kate also spanks all 8 of the children with a wooden spoon) and how the parents treat each other is how these children learned to treat other people. Mady (also the other children, and according to Kate, Collin was actually Kate's biggest challenge) learned from her parents as her mother especially shuts her down when Mady wants to talk about her feelings, is that it's okay to lash out when angry.
One thing I can confidently say, this generation will NOT repeat Kate’s toxic behavior. She repeated their age several times…3. They don’t know any better. The fact that his NOT MUCH OLDER sister had to comfort him, is truly heartbreaking.
I don’t think it’s the reason why he ended up there, but is a major reason why he has all the issues he has now at 16. Kate wrongfully sent him away to that institution, probably because he didn’t want to be on TV anymore. Then she created a fake diagnosis and made it seem like he was being well taken care of at this place when really it only scarred him more. 😢 He was treated quite poorly when he was there and just drugged up on multiple medications. It was not until Jon got him out of there and won full custody of him that Collin began to improve. But even though he’s made a lot of progress living with Jon, he most likely will struggle with these issues for the rest of his life. Apparently several different medical professionals have confirmed that many of Collin’s issues stem from both his mother and the TV show. It’s possible he may have been born with some of these issues, but if he was they only worsened from the chaotic environment he grew up in. I feel so bad for Collin, he’s a good kid who has had a hard life. So glad he’s in better hands with his father now and is happier by the looks of it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Speaking as a mom, if she doesn't want the bear to go through the dryer, then she can hang dry it. I have done that before. She didn't need to make him cry like that. I would just explain to him that since he can't go through the dryer, he will have to wait to play with the bear until he is dry. I've explained that to my son before and he was fine with it. Knowing what he went through with her, just breaks my heart.

I understand being thrifty given the size of the family, but seriously. Be reasonable. And put the kids in play clothes when they play. So what if those get stained? It’s really not that hard.
I don't think he does have issues. I think Kate sent him away because whenever anyone disagrees with her or is it challenge to her? She just cuts them out of her life. Her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, her babysitter, her friends, etc. And once they're out of her life they're out of there forever. It's very sad.

This REALLY pisses me off, even all of these years later. Kate just couldn't shut up and kept making these remarks to little toddlers who aren't old enough to even understand all of this that's going on. All they know is cool Aunt Jody gave them gum. Collin knows that his bear is everything to him. She could have easily used an ice cube to get the damn gum out of the bear, washed it and let it sit to dry instead of going into the clothes dryer. 🙄 My heart broke for Collin, and the other kids quite frankly. Kate did a terrible job as a mom for educating them on how to communicate properly. She should've let the children express themselves and tell her the problem and then help them solve the problem. What Kate does instead. She shuts them down and refuses to listen. Kate and Jon arguing in front of the children really set up a bad example on how these kids should be communicating and the parents don't do much to stop it no matter the circumstances are when it comes to discipline. Although the parents do discipline they are not always on the same page as they seem on the show. Kate believes in corporal punishment.

My oldest son got nail polish all over his special blanket around that age and we still have it (he is almost 8) it was a bummer it was on there but we didnt have to throw it away it was still special and now its a funny memory
