  • The LMS Railway built the UKs first mainline diesel locomotive back in 1947. Sadly this locomotive was scrapped in 1968 before the railway preservation movement was fully established.
The Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society aims to recreate this lost locomotive and fill a massive void in Britain’s railway history.
This video give a brief history of the locomotive, the society’s LMS10000 project and how you can become involved.

In 1949 10000 and 10001 were at Willesden shed where my brother worked and in the days before health and safety we as train spotters could wander about and collect loco numbers , and i was allowed to go into the cab of 10000 something i will never forget , my hat goes off to to the guys at Ivatt Re-creation Society for their outstanding work , im 86 now and i hope i will still be about to see it completed.

I live here in the US & this is the first time I've learned of these remarkable & groundbreaking units. I found it very interesting. I think what y'all are setting out to accomplish is just absolutely awesome & wish y'all all the luck.

I strongly believe that this loco should be classified as 10003, as it is more suitable for the remembrance of the original 10000 and 10001 locomotives.

Perhaps a more authentic idea might be to paint it in BR Brunswick Green as 34001?

@@bennickss That would be very reasonable, given the way it's to be constructed. It's new, it's different. A 12":1' scale model is what it is. Nostalgia has its place, but not here.

I have been watching this project for a while now. I really hope it comes to fruition! It was such a shame the original twins got scrapped. Now their contributions to British Railway history have faded into obscurity... this project will be sure to spread awareness of how groundbreaking this design was for its time and teach railfans some important history.

Considering its place in loco development, its scrapping has to be seen as pure vandalism. Those who did it should hang their heads in shame.

How good is this another far sighted project that can only be good for the future of heritage railways and the tourist industry.

How cool it would be to get ride behind a 10000 series, very cool. Good luck!

Is it going to be numbered 10000 as a recreation of the original or will it be numbered 10002 as the next member of the class?

This was sliced with cutting torches at Cashmores in 1963 and the debris sent for melting. A replica does not count.
