These two are a little before my time but thanks to TH-cam I've been able to watch them. I don't know what it is but, when I watch these I feel a calm sweep over me. So much today seems crude and crass and the daily news is just kick in the gut after another. I know that life was tough in the 30's and I think the make believe beauty of this was one thing that helped those folks cope. Just like it does for me today.
Fred Astaire might be able to dance on water, but watching Ginger Rogers dance, I keep waiting for her to float away she's so graceful. If only we had some way to bring back these kinds of movies and get rid of what we have now...
This scene is the most exquisite, perfect dance scene in all of film, set to one of the greatest songs by an American composer. I have treasured it for almost 60 years, since I first saw it as a child on TV.
Kids...no, we will never see the likes of this again...and it is sad...truly...but we can still enjoy it as long as we want...it was old business when I was a kid....and it stands up. I wish they could have lived forever, Cole Porter, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers...:>
I used to watch Fred and Ginger films on TV when I was growing up in the 50th's. They were already oldies then. My Mom and Dad, having grown up in the 30th's, loved all these movies and it was a treat to watch the Saturday night TV program that featured all of them. Mom used to love Glen Miller and used to play the same LP over and over featuring his music. This was in El Salvador, Central America.
It's not just the fact that Ginger was beautiful, it's the fact that she was talented. A triple threat-dance, sing and act. And as far as Fred Astaire-a legend and one of a kind that can't be replaced
I'm beginning to noticed how great Ginger Rogers... with zero training in singing, acting and dancing. Wished I had met her...will put flowers on her grave
It doesn't get any better than this. For those who are dismissive of the sound and the singing, you have to remember that in 1934 movie sound was still in its infancy. It was a wondrous thing to be able to hear anyone sing in a movie, not that Fred was that bad. Also, this was years before the advent of the electronically reorganized, over produced music that is prevalent today. The sound of Gay Divorcee is real. It is authentic. As far as the dancing goes, no one, and I mean no one, has surpassed Fred and Ginger. Superb!
I live in Cole Porter's hometown of Peru, Indiana, and every time I drive by his house, I feel so proud that this town, at one time in history, had something going for it.
Hello, it is pronounced like the Country, but you will occasionally hear some older people say PEE-roo, but it most definitely is Peru, like the country. We also have a Mexico, Brazil, etc. not 100% where the South American influence came from as the founders nor the territory had roots to that area. Anyway, hope that helps lol 😂
You cant beat the old ones, they live on and on and on i n now unfortunately the memories of the selected few - its cool to see including me i hasten to add lol still appreciate good music! long live Ginger and Fred!
This is soooo romantic!! No need for kisses when you have this...it's just like OMG!! Fred is one of the most masculine men ever, even though he was skinny. This folks, is a REAL man.
Fred was Irvine Berlin's favourite singer because although his voice wasn't terrific he established each of these great songs as standards. His timing is immaculate.
This is what love is all about. Attraction, hate, distrust and everything in between. And whether it is sung too fast or not, I don't care. It simply is one of the very best dance scenes ever filmed. Every and I mean every later dancer or lady dancer can only bow to these two. They were, and still are, the very very best. I've never seen a couple that had such almost mental bond as Astaire and Rogers.
Yes, this is the definition of class. Sadly, these days will never come back. Now that I'm older, I realize what class is and appreciate it. The world is different. Hollywood produces smut, cursing is rampant and sex sells. What happened to good stories and entertainment without the filth? Gone along with Fred & Ginger.
wow! now that was class at its finest,,, Fred, and ginger had class, style, sexiness, radiance uniqueness, such as no other act could ever have,,,,night and day,,,,
Nothing in the history of cinema compares, at least in my mind, to the grace, beauty and charm these two produced as a duo. I'll take any movie from the Golden Age of Cinema and watch it over anything made recently. God bless these two!
Don't know how many times I've seen this but the hairs on my arms still stand up and tingle when they really start dancing halfway in the clip ... . Fabulous x
Fred and Ginger, Cyd and Gene. What a great couple of decades we had of amazing dancers. It's too bad the movie musical fell out of favor, I would watch any new movie musical made like they were in a heartbeat
I LOVE Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!! When you're watching them it's hard to take your eyes off them because when you are looking at one, the other takes your eye! Seperately and together.Breathtaking.
I am so grateful to TCM and TH-cam for making these wonderful early films from the 1920s and 1930s available for all of us to see. These films are my favorite over anything after 1940 with the exception of the works of a small handfull of directors, such as Anthony Minghella, David O. Russell, and David Lean.
Many people struggled a lot with pouerty and unemployment...at those times...in those years...just THEN it had to be wonderful for them to see acting and dancing and romance...and such a beauty Hope they had a wonderful dream-nights
Does anyone else find this dance rather sexy? Her initial resistance and then giving in to Fred's entreaties? Anyway I've been a huge fan of this stuff since I was sixteen; I remember when they refurbished all of the Rogers/Astaires films and showed them at a local movie house; I was in heaven. Pure pleasure, which is in short supply these days.
It is great because Fred and Ginger are feeling the music. He applied perfectionism in every aspect of his performance with delicate refinement. That is why we love this so.
Yes as was Gene Kelly. Both were fantastic. Ginger was in a wheelchair when she received her Award for Lifetime Achievement. Her legs took a beating. Also Fred. He died of pneumonia. These films will never be back. People want "reality" film. The very young, will never have this pleasure of a Sunday aft. watching great talent.
Wonderfull, they are imortals :) i love them soo much and this period also, elegance, charm, education and respect always present! thanks for posting it
Cole Porter was a genius. Isn't she lovely here? Like the jazz doc said, her dress has a life of it's own. Haven't seen the movie yet, but I will soon.
@erniemanguy I remember reading once that when Fred was just starting out, one of the comments from an early audition he went to was "Can't sing, can't act. Can dance a little." Priceless! :)
What I like about Fred and Ginger is they never kissed. The dances were more romantic than any fake Hollywood romantic smooches. People do not realize what a great songwriter Cole Porter was, either.
Cole Porter was one of the best song writers who ever lived. Ever.
I find myself watching the old films more and more and the new ones less and less. They have a lot to teach us.
me too and not only a lot to teach us, but there was class, modesty etc that is gone in today's society ...too sad :(
rossharmonics used to be a modern movie lover but after Fred and Ginger , I'm only a 30s and musical lover
Amen😊
When music was enjoyable to hear with talents singers and actors.
Yes that most of us just want to live our lives in love and freedom.
All the love songs ever written this is my favourite.
Stunning. Fred and Ginger and a favorite Cole Porter song. Love it. ❤️
Wish we had more of this in today's world.
These two are a little before my time but thanks to TH-cam I've been able to watch them. I don't know what it is but, when I watch these I feel a calm sweep over me. The core of the calm is the notion, which they amply demonstrate, that human beings can master their fates through persistence and skill.
We live in a time of spiritual, moral and artistic decay. A collapsing Republic.
Her dress is amazing, like it's been made out of a cloud
That was the holy trifecta of music, song, and dance. This should be mandatory watching for music class.
What a magnificent Era that was.
No one has danced like these two ever. She said she danced til her feet were bleeding from all those hours dancing👠👠💃💃
17 people need to watch Fred's awesome tap dancing moves.
this is the best, Fred and Ginger dancing to Cole Porter. Heaven
Kids...no, we will never see the likes of this again...and it is sad...truly...but we can still enjoy it as long as we want...it was old business when I was a kid....and it stands up. I wish they could have lived forever, Cole Porter, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers...:>

Fred and Ginger dancing to the music of Cole Porter....... doesn't get any better !
A classic gentlemen. An even classy lady. How it used to be before. How it is today what a shame. Take me back please
The most beautiful and sensuous dance in movie history. Thank you.
I live in Cole Porter's hometown of Peru, Indiana, and every time I drive by his house, I feel so proud that this town, at one time in history, had something going for it.
How lucky you are. By the way, it is pronounced like the country, or PEE-roo? Thank you, and Happy New Year.
Hello, it is pronounced like the Country, but you will occasionally hear some older people say PEE-roo, but it most definitely is Peru, like the country. One of my all time favorite romantic songs.
3:32 - That kick she does is so graceful and beautiful.
Amo esa epoca,es como si yo estuve en esps tiempo ,me da nostalgia,mi ser estraña vivir de Nuevo esa epoca
Fred & Ginger... the good old times...Hollywood doesn´t make things like that anymore...
This is soooo romantic!! No need for kisses when you have this...it's just like OMG!! Fred is one of the most masculine men ever, even though he was skinny. This folks, is a REAL man.
Great dancing and what great music. The lyrics are sooo sophisticated. Shows what a genius Porter was.
Fred was Irvine Berlin's favourite singer because although his voice wasn't terrific he established each of these great songs as standards. His timing is immaculate.
Two people at the top of their game and showing us what real talent is. They are awe-inspiring.
This is what love is all about. Attraction, hate, distrust and everything in between. And whether it is sung too fast or not, I don't care. It simply is one of the very best dance scenes ever filmed. So beautiful, graceful and majestic
A classy lady a gentleman with all the moves a classic film never be forgotten
I will always love Mr, Astaire. When he passed People magazine had a layout on him. I remember buying it and I still have it. I was a teen then.
Never get sick watching these two. Timeless.
One of the best classic movies ever. We need to have more films like this one.
.I am so in love right now with this video. Great post!
That dress -- wow! I wish I had that dress.
The best entertainer and even more brilliant with Rogers. The man sang like he danced and his dancing was flawless.
No time, no space. They fly in the enduring legend.
What a fantastic song this is. My parents liked to sing this to each other around the house when they were feeling playful. 😊
They don't write 'em like that anymore. Beautiful poetry and smooth and romantic dancing. 🎶💜
This was when they made movies - the music the dancing - There will never be another Fred Astaire. Ginger Roger made a great partner.
wow! now that was class at its finest,,, Fred, and ginger had class, style, sexiness, radiance uniqueness, such as no other act could ever have,,,,night and day,,,,
Grace, elegance and class. Beautiful.
FRED AND GINGER - SIMPLY SENSATIONAL..
Thank you.............
Love the music of Cole Porter, love Fred and Ginger. Just magical. Ginger looks beautiful. Thank for posting.
I'd sell my soul to dance like him just one nite...
When she tries to get away the second time and he pulls her into his dancing embrace - I die from the gorgeousness of it.
Nothing in the history of cinema compares, at least in my mind, to the grace, beauty and charm these two produced as a duo. I'll take any movie from the Golden Age of Cinema and watch it over anything made recently. God bless these two!
Don't know how many times I've seen this but the hairs on my arms still stand up and tingle when they really start dancing halfway in the clip ... . Fabulous x
Greatest dancer of all time...Fred Astaire..........timing is perfect
No one could compete before or since..........they were IT
Fred and Ginger, Cyd and Gene. What a great couple of decades we had of amazing dancers. It's too bad the movie musical fell out of favor, I would watch any new movie musical made like they were in a heartbeat
Movie musicals are still popular as they were back then. The only difference is that now they are in cartoon form.
Fred was great with Cyd too.
I totally agree, Fred was the one who made them both practice so hard to make each dance perfect. He's amazing.
I LOVE Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers!! When you're watching them it's hard to take your eyes off them because when you are looking at one, the other takes your eye! Seperately and together.Breathtaking.

I get goosebumps everytime i watch these two 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I love how Astaire sings this. And, of course, the dance is fantastic!
Many people struggled a lot with pouerty and unemployment...at those times...in those years...just THEN it had to be wonderful for them to see acting and dancing and romance...and such a beauty
Hope they had a wonderful dream-nights
Timelessly delightful! Never to be surpassed, or even equalled!
This is my favourite Porter song and the only version of it I want to hear.
The perfect dancing couple.never will be repeated
she always wore beautiful dresses :)
Exquisite ... the hairs on my arms prickle and stand up every time I watch this.
Maravillosa canción y paraja de baile de estos dos colosos norteamericanos.
Our grand-mothers were so distinguished compare to the young people of today...It's so sad!
I have this song in a music box! I LOVE THESE TWO!!
Ginger just seems to absolutely melt into Fred when they're dancing! Aboslutely romantic and beautiful!
un vrai chef d'oeuvre !
Wonderful music and dance. Fred and Ginger are amazing artists.
over 80 years old, but sexy, stylish- a Jewel in Human Artistry
Wonderful! Thanks for the upload...
It is great because Fred and Ginger are feeling the music. He applied perfectionism in every aspect of his performance with delicate refinement. That is why we love this so.
una pareja de baile excepcional!!! no me canso de repetir los videos con sus bailes!! Para disfrutar eternamente!!
Igualmente....
Wish a couple like this one can dance like this again!!!! ^_^
The best couple of dancers ever... Thanks for posting this masterpice...
Fred DELIVERED a song with such heart and emotion and of course, his dancing was beyond superb and masterful! Ginger too most wonderful!
This is sensuality at its most potent.
Film bellissimo e divertente con una coppia indimenticabile me lo guardo sempre in DVD ❤❤❤❤❤
THIS....... is Dancing with the Stars.......so romantic an era. Thanks for these memories.
YES SIR******
Que elegantes son bailando, ninguna pareja de baile los ha superado...
Che gradevole eleganza di altri tempi. Bellissimi. La facilità con cui si muovono è spettacolare. Ciao altri tempi 👏👋
I just love that dress! I'll take one!
I can't stop watching this
This is my favorite Cole Porter song. Ginger & Fred provide the perfect visual. Both the lyrics and choreography are very "stimulating".
No matter how much I see this clip, I still say, Bravo and that won't be done again so take lessons.❤
Cole Porter, Fred Astaire, & Ginger Rogers...who could ask for anything more.
Works for me.
no one :)
wchumphries
Nothing is more perfect than Fred, Ginger and a Cole Porter song.

So effortlessly charming .
Не зимные!!! Порящие!!! Безумно красивые!!!❤
@erniemanguy I remember reading once that when Fred was just starting out, one of the comments from an early audition he went to was "Can't sing, can't act. Can dance a little." Priceless! :)
Real talent, all the way around. Music, dancing, singing.
What I like about Fred and Ginger is they never kissed. The dances were more romantic than any fake Hollywood romantic smooches. People do not realize what a great songwriter Cole Porter was, either.
Incredible music, singing and dance. I love watching Fred. He was a wonderful performer.
