Gambit's mutant abilities manifested in his teens as most mutants' do, but over the years his bio-kinetic energy was becoming harder to control. He ended up going to Mr. Sinister, asking for help. Sinister removed a small portion of Remy's brain stem, dampening his full potential but keeping his ability manageable and offensively powerful. However he requested Remy's allegiance and demanded him to run a number of missions for him. One of the last was Gambit leading Sinister's team of mutant assassins - the Marauders - down into the Morlock tunnels to wipe the outcast mutants from existence. Remy tried to be a hero and fought against the Marauders once he realized their full intentions - getting mortally wounded, but saving a single Morlock child who'd end up calling herself Marrow many years later. It was a tough thing for him to later admit to Rogue and the X-Men due to their losses in that massacre and it drove another wedge in their relationship.
I think the playing cards are just Gambit's go-to since they don't take as long to charge and can be aimed better. He's grabbed sand and thrown it once charged, making for thousands of tiny little explosions.

I always wondered if they should have done Chris Claremont's original reveal: that Gambit was the "missing Summers brother" Sinister told Cyclops about.
It would be revealed that Remy was a genetically-engineered creation of Cyclops & Sinister's DNA, but was lost years earlier.

@@screensanctum After Claremont left the series, the idea was cancelled, but years later, he returned to do a series called X-MEN: THE END, an Elseworld or What If...? style story, where he was able to end X-MEN the way he wanted to.
Sinister was revealed to not be an immortal, but "body-jumping" into younger cloned bodies every few years. He tried to make a body that might be strong enough to defeat Apocalypse, so he created a clone made from his original body of "Nathaniel Essex" & Cyclops.

@@screensanctum Writer Chris Claremont was going to reveal that Gambit was a genetically-engineered creation of his original Nathaniel Essex body & Cyclops. When he left writing the comic, the idea was dropped.
If you search for "Gambit Missing Summers Brother," there are a few articles that explain it better than I can.
When Claremont was asked how he would "end" the X-Men storyline, he wrote 2005's X-MEN: THE END series, an Elseworld/What If...? that confirmed Gambit's lineage as a "brother" of Cyclops & gave us a pretty hard-ending to the X-Men as we knew them.

@@screensanctum Marvel Girl was a very 60's codename. If you think that's dated you can see her original outfit online. How one fights crime in a miniskirt is beyond me. Later she went as Phoenix/Dark Phoenix during her cosmic power era. Coming back from the dead, she took back the name Marvel Girl while serving with X-Factor. When merging with the X-Men team and donning that famous 90's costume is when she just called herself Jean Grey. So much for a secret identity.

      Magneto can't teleport, no.
Sometimes he had a mutant teleporter transport him, or even used teleporting machines, but it's not his power. He "just" manipulates magnetism.

Good god, this episode was so good.ibwas not expecting this at all.
And yeah, this is more in line with what Magneto would go back and forth between in the comics (over the course of decades). The uniform he rocks here was an old school one from one of his first times he was with the X-Men if I'm not mistaken.

Me: Hey, The Watcher is her-.... oh... oh no no no..
    *Cable shows up*
Me: Oh no no no nononononono
So pretty much anytime The Watcher is part of a race that ...watches, as you saw. The one we know (it was probably simplified to just one to keep it simple for the MCU) well, anytime The Watcher shows up... something BIG is about to happen in Marvel, it's rarely good.
Add on to that, if Cable or Bishop show up, that means something bad happened and they're obviously trying to change it.... so.... yea! Bishop was the leading force with the Days of Future Past story, in the movie you saw Omar Sy play Bishop but the main role ultimately moved to Wolverine trying to change the future, instead.
Nightcrawler had an accent in the movie, yes
The mutant group called Morlocks, were the ones you saw Magneto save in eps2. Leech (the green kid) was one of them. In the last series, Storm actually challenged the leader for position (you saw the leader..possibly dead. She had an eye patch), guess who won! hahah. Showing the kids was a way to show how well adjusted the mutants with... less attractive powers like the Morlocks (skeleton kid and Leech, for example) managed to live above ground - only for that to obviously get destroyed.
I didn't realize until later, the song that was playing during Rogue/Magneto's dance is what Madeline Pryor heard when she had some visions of the future in the 1st episode.
Not sure if you caught it, but Madeline Pryor and Cyclops formed a sort of.. psychic connection some time ago (year? years?) and they actually kept or reconnected it after the real Jean showed up. So then real-Jean happened to realize Madaeline was in his mind while real-Jean and Scott were together. Emma Frost (blonde lady in white in Genosha council) is also a psychic and she happened to notice Madeline was caught so her remark "mind drift indeed" was her letting you know, she knows and was enjoying that tea.
Gambit's power was a bit confused for people for a long while, they thought it was all about the cards - naw, anything he touches he can make it charge and explode - giving him the most badass moment I'd say in both animated series so far.
    Remember it.

"not sure if you caught it? DJ you know damn well i didn't catch any of this shit lol. but hearing you explain it is giving me chills. Man Cyclops was double dipping in the Jeans for a WHILE damn. I knew only a little about Gambit so seeing this was really cool. This is the version we need in live action for sure.
It's kinda funny, if anyone who isn't really part of the show show up, IT MEANS BAD NEWS hahha.
I'm glad i will be caught up for this weeks episode. Ill probably watch ep 6 tonight or tomororw because i feel like it's Storms episode :)

I just remembered, so that dude with Storm, Forge, he was on that X Factor team like the multiple man you saw on Genosha. The one who ... basically Dupli-Kate'd himself. Just another one of those random cameo things.

Trish Tilby and Hank had been a couple for quite some time in the X-Factor run. She unfortunately - with her responsibility as a reporter - outed the Legacy Virus and it being tied to mutant genetics in one fair swoop. Unfortunately it did spread to some humans which made people fear mutants more.
Don't know why Gambit talks to himself in third person, don't remember him doing that in the comics. About the only thing he'd be responsible for is necessitating an HR department at the mansion, since he'd flirt with anything not nailed down.
In the comics, Jean Grey found Emma Frost and Cyclops having a mental affair behind her back, but I guess they wanted to have Madelyne be the home-wrecker in this show. Truth be told, Nathan is Maddie's so Jean is actually the odd puzzle piece in this situation.
