Saved me $375 from that the garage door service was going to charge. Took me 20-25 min to do my RV garage door, and cost $25-30 on Amazon for the rollers! Thanks!!
Thank you for a straight forward, no BS how to video. I did this on a 35 year old door. I cleaned the years of gunk out of the tracks and replaced the roller with the Z rollers. Using another video I adjusted the chain tension. It is now so quiet when it goes up and down it’s like having a brand new door…total cost $30 for 10 rollers. Thank you, Thank you
Short and to the point. Thanks for saving me $250. Just also replaced the middle set of hinges with the "Green Hinges", and the door works like a charm with the new set of rollers!
So I watched this after I did my install, great tip on the bending of the track. I took mine off like you did at first except I left the top screw in each bracket and moved the brackets over as they pivoted on the top screw to remove the rollers. I lifted the door all the way up and removed the bottom bracket with no issues as there was very little tension on them. The top bracket has a single screw on top you can remove so you don't have to remove the whole bracket like you did so your way with the track bend and my way with the top bracket single screw.
Before you take a hinge off, mark its position with a sharpie (felt pen) to put it back in exactly the same position. They are adjustable up and down, you want it back where it was.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when looking at mine yesterday. I wouldn’t have attempted to do this, but watching his video gave me the push to do it myself. 😊
Straight forward instructions that worked like a charm. And doing it myself saved me about $120 compared to a quote I received to do the same. Thank you!
I just replaced mine in 15 minutes. THANK YOU! My door hardly makes a sound now and runs as smooth as glass. I did secure vise grips on the track just to make sure the door wasn't going to move.
Great tip for replacing the bottom rollers. For those that don’t realize the cable a simple job can easily turn into a nightmare. Thumbs up 100% thanks.
Absolutely a great, no-nonsense, straight to the meat of the coconut video. I didn’t think this was going to be a difficult task initially anyway, but the video makes it look easier than giving out Halloween candy. Thanks again; much obliged!!!!
Awesome video! Direct and to the point I followed your directions and was finished in less than and hour saving me a few hundred dollars I'm sure! Than you Sir!
Great video. Really good description. The only thing you missed was making sure folks bend back the roller as others have said. Honestly, if folks are attempting this themselves they should be savy enough to put it back.
The last example for replacing the rollers was to bend the metal track that guides the rollers outward. Once the new rollers are installed you have to "re-bend" that track back in to be parallel so the rollers will stay in. @@xMissPriss09x
Would be useful to hear the sound difference between a garage with metal rollers/normal hinges and then with the hinges and rollers replaced to sound more quiet.
my rollers have a threaded end and a nut screwed onto the end, perhaps its hurricane rated? also my rollers are 9 inches long with 2 brackets on the end, not just one. hard to find rollers with threaded ends and wondering if i can just use ones with no threads? it doesnt seem like rollers are secured other than the roller just being in the track, which holds them from moving left to right, so not sure why mine have a threaded end. plus mu nuts on the end of roller arent tightened, they are just barely threaded on . thanks
Before you start bending the track try rolling the door all the way up and see how much slack there is in the cable. I tried the method demonstrated in this video and it is not as easy as it looks, especially if there is very little clearance between the outside of the track and adjacent walls. It is hard to get enough leverage. Also, examine the bottom bracket. On my doo,r the cable bracket is bolted to the door and the roller bracket is bolted to the cable bracket so I was able to remove the roller bracket without unbolting the cable bracket.
When the garage door is up there is little to no tension on the bottom bracket. It’s just the weight of the spring. Why not unbolt the bottom one when the door is up? Just wondering. Thanks.
My door is off kilter and the roller at the top on the left is gone. I can't seem to roll the door all the way down. Any tips for getting at that top one?
I had a new garage door installed by this company and I am very happy with the results. The technician who came to my home was very knowledgeable and helped me choose the perfect style and color to match my home. He completed the installation quickly and efficiently, and took the time to show me how to operate the new system. I would definitely use this company again for any garage door needs.
Some people recommend putting a heat shrink wrap over the roller to cut down on noise and vibration. What say you? If so, what thickness of wrap would one use?
Hello thank you for this video. Just curious is it necessary to lubricate the rollers with grease or any other type of lubricant after they've been replaced? Thank you!
I noticed that the garage door is slid over to one side completely. Like the brackets are contacting the wheels on one side, and on the other side there is a few inches between the wheels and the bracket. Also there is a small amount of daylight showing on the one side. When I muscle it over to be centered again, it goes back to this shifted position after operating a few times. Any idea how to fix this?
After disabling the grave doors electrical power. Raise the door alway up past is upward rest position. It can never pushed past its upward rest position. Have someone keep the door pushed up. This will put enough slack in the cable to remove the lower brack and replace the bottom roller. I perform this proverdure by myself.
What should you do if the bottom of your garage door is getting rusted? The rollers, the holder for the rollers, and parts of the bottom metal area itself are looking nasty.
Is there any lube that should go in before replacement? A coat of oil on the bearings on the rollers? a coat of grease on the rollers shaft? A coat of grease on the tracks? Seems to be missing, if for no other reason, than to prevent rust? Thoughts?
Great video, but it is not necessary to bend the tracks and permanently affecting their reliability. There should be enough slack in the cable for the bottom rollers when door is fully open to safely remove the bottom bracket without bending metal. If there isn't, you can simply lift door all the way to top, disengage carrier, and remove the bottom rail section. Then carefully lower the door and you will be able to slip out the old roller and replace with new one. Push door back up, reattach lower rail and done.
Hmm the tracks rebend right back to original position. I will continue doing this over removing the bottom rail or bottom bracket cause it works great, channel locks work good. Also some doors have waaay more spring tension then others so be very careful removing that bottom bracket....
Just check my door and yep: plenty of slack in the cable when raising the doorn fully open. Think I might be replacing the rollers on my 30+ year old door using your advice and the tips in this video. Many thanks!
If there is a center spring above and in front of my garage door..... no cables involved..... should I be mindful of any tensions on the door itself since there are no cables involved with this sort of set up?
Saved me $375 from that the garage door service was going to charge. Took me 20-25 min to do my RV garage door, and cost $25-30 on Amazon for the rollers! Thanks!!
If I wouldn't have watched this the bottom bracket sure enough would of come off ....Thanks

Straight to the point without being boring!!! Great job, and Thank you!
Short and to the point. Thanks for saving me $250. Just also replaced the middle set of hinges with the "Green Hinges", and the door works like a charm with the new set of rollers!
Short and sweet, and no long intro. Thank you.

Im happy it worked out great for you
Did it and worked well for this 77 year old dude.
As a young home owner. You made my issue a whole lot easier. God bless
Same i just got my house and the door is making alot of noise
Lol we are all hear ahah squeaking garage door I was like this looks complex nah just a bit of muscle it turns out ahaha
Thanks for the heads up about the bottom bracket!
Before you take a hinge off, mark its position with a sharpie (felt pen) to put it back in exactly the same position. They are adjustable up and down, you want it back where it was.
On all mine, the bottom hinge screw hole is not slotted, just a hole. Installing that screw first ensures proper alignment.
That’s exactly what I was thinking when looking at mine yesterday. I wouldn’t have attempted to do this, but watching his video gave me the push to do it myself. 😊
People just wanna complicate stuff to sound like they are some kind of expert. .
Can also put a Bondo plastic spreader between the door sections when removing the hinge so the top panels don’t drop once the hinge is removed.
@@South_0f_Heaven_used a door shim to do this was great !
Thank you for the quick and high quality video.
This DIY video and ones like it are the crown jewel of TH-cam. Thanks for the helpful tutorial.
Excellent, straight forward. REALLY appreciate the hint about bending the track!!
:)
Yes, but wish he'd shown how to bend the track back.
Damn... Just got quoted $299 to have the rollers replaced. I'm glad I found this video

Straight forward instructions that worked like a charm. And doing it myself saved me about $120 compared to a quote I received to do the same. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. 👍 It saved me from making the mistake
I just replaced mine in 15 minutes. THANK YOU! My door hardly makes a sound now and runs as smooth as glass. I did secure vise grips on the track just to make sure the door wasn't going to move.
Good tip.
Brother you just saved me about $300 thank you
Great tip for replacing the bottom rollers. For those that don’t realize the cable a simple job can easily turn into a nightmare.
Thumbs up 100% thanks.
Watched this video once and then replaced the wheels on the garage door in 30-45 minutes. Great video, thank you for sharing.
Worked like a charm for me. Very quick and easy to do. I don’t see where it did any harm to the rails. Thanks
Thanks for making this short and concise. Other videos have stretched this out into 12 minutes. Kudos to you.

Six years later still paying dividends, thank you for your help, got my rollers replaced no stress

Thanks! I just replaced the middle hinge and roller in about 10 minutes. Runs great now!

Thanks for the shortcut part , made replacing them so much easier !!

Why not loosen the top of the bottom track just as you did the bottom of the top one?

Dont you have to bend the frame back in, wont it pop out or get stuck in that spot?
