this was pretty straightforward needed an axle and a pair of hubs. using halfords rattle cans for the dark blue and hycote rattle can for the red .

hi there,i had one of these trucks in 1962 as a child, i think it was 12/11p, good to see this one restored. i now have 2 scammell wreckers and 10 bedford rls from the army range all in good nick.good memories of the past

Great job Martin, those Foden trucks a big,I have a couple that I purchased restored about a year ago.compared to other Dinky trucks they are big.Your Foden has come up well,I was a little worried that you may have had some problems due to the cabin cracks,but you worked your magic.Thanks for another great video again.

Hello Martin what's a lovely finish on that tank you done I think it looks better and it probably did when it come out the dinky factory you are right you could have sprayed them white lines on better than the transfer stay safe my friend and see you on the next one.

I can see how a kid would love these toys. The sense of ownership/possession - the smell of the rubber tyres and paint job - almost like owning a real vehicle. Minor details didn't matter it was about the effect of overall appearance. Everything is relative. If I were a collector I would particularly prefer the industrial vehicles over the cars.

Nice job Martin the finished article reminds me when a flatbed one of those full of sugar (Tate and Lyle) got stuck in a ditch down my street and had to be unloaded by hand , it took ages. The two stroke supercharged diesel engine was screaming where the driver was revving it up to get it out of the ditch. Eventually it got towed out with another Foden exactly the same. Two in the same street, quite a rare truck now though.

GGGGGday Martin Beautiful job another one for the display cabinet. I wish I could get cheap acrylic paint here only cheap stuff is enamel cans from the auto shop and it takes a week to dry so you can handle it. I did a spot on Zephyr 6 a few years ago in a green colour when I looked at it the other day it had all gone flat😥. I'll have to have a dig around on ebey and see what I can find. Catch ya on the next one mate stay safe.😜👍

Today was a stunning restoration of a fabulous model, absolutely brilliant. Like MrRestore said below, "this is so relaxing." It must be about 60yrs since Dinky made that model and it still looks great, I have the new Atlas Dinky Super Toys version (made in China) in my collection. Can't wait for the next video, keep well, all the best. Peter.

Those atlas models are great you can use the parts to repair the dinky Fodens because thay fit spot on and thay are cheaper then buying spare parts .

One in mobile red would look great ,I had a corgi major Mack rig in esso livery with rubber tyres and jewelled head lamps ,always wanted the dinky AEC one maybe one day you’ll do one of those ,great resto mate ,all the best Mark

I hope the red baseplate didn't mean this was a unique, one-off trial, issued by mistake on the very first day.😁 The paint looks great and the finish, especially on the blue, looks perfect. That silver trim looks superb. Funny how the metal bumper looks so much more 𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑐 than today's plastic equivalents.😁

Hey Martin, great job and finish. Love the fodens , as I have a few of them. One I have to do end caps on the tank. I have a few things on the old bench right now and hope to get a channel up soon. Hopefully you’ll get that package I sent you before too long, but I know the mail is quite slow. I’m still awaiting a UK parts delivery from December! Excellent job Martin. I've done a number of these as you know and they make brilliant restored models and display pieces. I would mention to the congregation that if you are thinking of doing up one of these and you need maybe a tank, ladders, caps and tyres, it works out much cheaper buying a Dinky/Atlas tanker, maybe an Octopus, and using it as a donor vehicle. If you're lucky, you can get a brand new one for maybe a tenner. Shop around on Ebay. The tanker components are fully interchangeable with a Dinky chassis and the quality is excellent. So, rather than separate purchases and postage, a one off Dinky/Atlas will probably save money instead of buying different parts from the usual suppliers. The paint on the Dinky/Atlas models is tough to remove but if you key off the decals with wet and dry, reprime then paint as normal, tanks etc will come up fine.

Hi Martin, very enjoyable to watch, I am doing the same model for myself and I will take your advice about the white line around the centre of the tank because my tank has a few small dents in it. Also my chassis is cracked behind the cab like yours, so l think it must be a weak point !

Nice repair Martin, and your eye is still in there, judging by the front end detail. That looks really elegant.
I am glad you didn't bother trying to take the dents out the tank - it looks more realistic with the odd ding here and there. The ladders must have taken ages, but the result looks terrific. Better than new!

interesting way to do the tanker. what do you think, did they want to save on the sheer weight of the model truck, or on the zinc alloy? surely interesting what they could do with pressed steel back when. :)

The chassis was universal any tank and flat bed or high sided would fit as long as it was for the foden.

You are the master. I learn a lot from you. Tks! Question: what is that you keep applying with a small brush over the decals? Also: how do you make the decals last? Mine crack or peel off when they are dry.
Hi eveson, the liquid is called micro set ,and micro sol.
Best thing is to clear coat the model then apply the decals the micro sol the red one you can apply to the decal and it helps set the decals around curves.
Then apply a clear coat over that when its dry ,this will help.

Get a piece of tin, or even plastic, cut a slot in it just wide enough for the axle to go through. Slide it onto the axle between the tip and the wheel. You won't grind your wheels away.

If your using a brush by hand use a brass brush you can get them in most place like homebargins or the range.
If your using a power tool you can get a bag full of assorted wire wheels of ebay that wont damage the castings .
I have an Austin taxi by dinky it's the fx3 it's on the list .

Where do you get all the equipment from ?
Hi Kevin, the hand tools files pliers etc, I get from ither model shops or hobby shops and a shop called the range .
The bigger equipment like the spray booth and drills and rotary drill i get from ebay and amazon .
Parts for the models ,decals tyre's rivits all from various sellers in the diecast section on ebay .
The paint ,I use i get from moter savers ,the range and halfords.
I hope this helps in some way .

Hi Stuart, yes you can get the treaded tryes for these ,but some of the tread is a fine , you can also get the later square ribbed tryes as well ,I think that one had the early round ribbed ones .
