    I started with a pair of Scorpion Covert Pros and after a season with those, moved on to Knox Richmond jeans. Much more slide protection throughout and they come with armor. Best part is, the knee armor can come out without taking them off and they look like regular jeans, so they're perfect for commutes to the office.

    Don't take this the wrong way but when I first saw your early videos, I really wanted to dislike you. "Young punk kid trying to make out like he knows what he's talking about", I thought (likely because so very many video presenters on youtube easily meet that description!) However, the more I watched your videos, the more I liked them! I'm a longtime broadcaster, and you have a very easy delivery style, you research your info well, and, crucially, are very honest in your reviews despite the fact you are also a retailer! In addition, you always seem to answer the pertinent questions I have about any given piece of gear (small example, whether the fitment of any given pant runs large or small!) In short, good job in making me eat my original words and keep up the fine work!

    your review is so spot on the scorpion. I have those now just new a month ago. great pant. suits me. great value. thank you.
    I wear 32 to 34" in Levis and like at least 34" inseam. 32" inseam is too short. the 36" in the scorpion fit well. the length is just adequate and is why I purchased 36" as I didn't like the 32" and 34" for length. now the 3" is still now too loose after riding in these as many rides as about 15.

    I've got a pair of the Furygan D01 aramid jeans, and they're honestly the best jeans I've owned; I wear mine a little baggy anyway so they're completely indistinguishable from regular jeans despite the full aramid denim construction with DuPont Kevlar lining and D30 knee armour. Especially good for the taller rider, I'm 6'4 and they don't ride up my shins when on the bike.

    Had a unintentional high speed dismount a few weeks ago. BMW R1100RT vs Kia. (I still feel that I won) I had just watched this video and had debated on what jean I wanted. After the accident I decided to forgo the financial debate in my head and chose the KILM K 50 2 Pants. Had I made the purchase when I first saw this my knees would have been spared. Great looking pants and very comfortable. Fit as advertised as well. Thank you Ryan as you have a following here in the States as well.

    The most protection you're going to get in a riding jean, is not what you see at 60secs. Just to give you an example Revit does the Rockefeller (disclaimer: I have these jeans) which is fully lined with PWR (proprietary mix of kevlar+cordura), plus the outer layer is made of denim mixed with cordura, and it has armor at the knees and hips. Rokker also does fully lined jeans and I'm sure there are other brands that do too.

  • @specialbusrider
    @specialbusrider 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love the content. It'll also be great to see how these jeans stand-up against engine/exhaust/frame heat coming off of most 1000 cc sports bikes. I ride a 1000 cc sports bike and in the summer months the heat radiating off the frame is just unbearable especially in the like of Panigales and R1-s. As a result most bikers like myself have resorted to riding in leather suits or pants even for short city commutes. It will be nice to see if there are decent jeans that are able to offer a degree of heat resistance for such bikes. So far the Rev-It Gear 2 pants are the only leather pants that I can think of that do the job pretty good but they don't really blend-in when it comes to off-the-bike activities.

    Just wanted to add that Road Skin jeans are really great. Not super expensive, fully lined with Kevlar and come with knee and hip armour. They run big though, so be forewarned. I'll usually wear a 30/34 or a 28/34 in men's jeans depending on how low they are worn, and these need a belt very very badly as well as being some of the baggiest jeans I've ever owned. Well worth it for the full lining though. The women's motorcycle jeans are made with fashion denim or denim with spandex type fabric and not nearly enough coverage in Kevlar :/

  • @ramseyolinger
    @ramseyolinger 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just compared the Scorpion Coverts and Covert Pros in the store, and there is an important difference, and it drives me nuts: the pocket for the armor is different. The base version sits several inches lower, and when I crammed my armor all the way to the top of the pocket, it only barely touched the top of my kneecap in a riding position. (I'm about 5'11, so not particularly short.) Also they have 6 velcro tabs along the center that you use to position the knee pad. I think you are supposed to close them to keep the knee pad at the position you want (the only way to keep the pad at the very top of the pocket is position it so that it sits on top of the closed velcro square), but since they are in the center, the tapered bottom will immediately slide off-center and fall down. The Pro pockets sit several inches higher up the leg, and have the soft side of velcro on the inside. I assume you are expected to stick velcro onto your pads, or leave them inside the little pockets that mine come (they came with my First Gear overpants). It's annoying as hell that they stuck an objectively inferior system on the cheaper pants when it doesn't seem like there would be much difference in materials used...

      Not at all. I grew up riding motocross, so having a motorcycle that can go off-road has always been a priority for me. I love riding street bikes too though, and most of them don't feel too cramped. ~RyanF9

    I'm new to riding with a pretty small budget. I'm getting a bike for commuting and some touring. Never planning on stunting and rarely going over 80 mph. How important are riding pants for someone like me compared to heavy duty jeans?

    • @Averitt13
      @Averitt13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Timplar if you ever go faster than about 10 - 15 mph, jeans will do next to nothing to protect you. Helmet, jacket, gloves, and pants are must haves.
      Notice I left off boots. That’s because a decent pair of “regular” work boot that covers your ankle should offer enough protection.

    I love your videos mainly because your humor and the extensive facts. With that said could you Please offer a budget option with your product reviews. The major brands are all mentioned here but most riders would consider a lower priced budget option even for giggles. Huxaly Bros offer a decent pair with Dupont Kevlar & pads for $65_USD. Not knocking your awesome reviews just hoping for a cheaper option when on a shoestring budget. 👍

    I have a serious question, and critique of this style of gear (if I may). I would sincerely love to get your opinion on it please.
    I've tried a couple of riding jeans but they all seem to be Not tight enough at the knees where I expect they should be.
    Even if you are sitting down, if you grab onto either knee pad and move them from side to side, they WILL move away from the knee cap.
    What is the point of wearing Any of these jeans if during a crash or when i'm in the air after one: the knee pads have slid to either side of the knee cap where they are supposed to be (in my limited knowledge opinion)? Shouldn't all of these pants have some way of locking the kneepads into position in Front of the kneecap?
    Thank you for your very insightful videos, they have been of great help to me as a biker. I especially like your A to G alphabetical list of things to check before I get onto my motorcycle ever.
    Thank you. Johny

      JetCityHooligan I saw a store in Toronto selling them, they look awesome but they were $500! Mostly because of the dollar conversion. If they're that good though, I might invest in a pair! Thanks.

    You are mistaken with the Covert, the old one has 160 GSM Kevlar, while the new one has 250 along with the infused Cordura, that makes a lot of difference, as I've read on an Australian road safety web page that you need a minimum of *300* GSM for speeds of 60 kph and *400* if you're going faster!

    My gripe about the Scorpions is that the velcro that holds the knee inserts in is on the bottom of the pocket, so the inserts fall out from time to time. Fortunately not while riding, yet.

    What was your reason not to test Rev'it jeans? They are imho by far the most stylish and technical jeans out there.

    It would be nice if more companies offered shorter inseams for us vertically challenged riders. I have a couple pairs, one that's just right and a pair of Icons that I had to hack 3 inches off of so I wouldn't trip or get them caught in my chain.

    I have the scorpion covert jeans. The armor in the knees sits a bit low. I tried to get them altered but they would have to disassemble the pants. I may have to wear them without knee protection. I tried the elbow knee protection with the Velcro added to them. Didn’t stay in place well enough. Besides I’m not going to trust Velcro to hold armor in place in that kind of situation.
    Bummer.

      I have a pair of those jean, I like them. the jeans are a little warm though if your are wearing them around the office at work or if you work outside. they have some stretch material in them so they stretch a little to help with comfort while riding. I could ride for hours with these jeans and not have any discomfort issues. Plus they do come with knee and hip armour in them from the factory.
