    your video has done what others haven't, and with little to no talking - you've really uncomplicated the somewhat-complex process of importing one's pet to Japan. I've researched this for a while, looking for something to confirm if I've understood the process right, and I'm SO GLAD that I found your video. Thank you for sharing. I'm glad that you and your pups made it safely to Japan.

    Next time definitely get a clean pad! There was a study done at Harvard where they got scared/nervous people to sweat onto a cloth, and then happy excited people to sweat onto a cloth. Then a couple hours later exposed the cloth to seperate dogs. The dog who got the scared/anxiety sweat got very anxious, went to the corner, and hid under the desk, visibly scared. The dog who got the happy sweat cloth smelt it and started wagging his tail and wanted to play.
    It was a study done on the extent of dogs noses, but it proved that a dog can FEEL the emotion (aka the brain chemicals) of the being that sweat/peed at that very moment.
    So if thats the Pee pad from when she was at the dentist/vet all doped up and in pain, she probably smelt that anxious/worry/scared.
    Its a random fact not all people know, but I like to share it so others can be more vigilant in the future. It probably skyrocketed their worry right before the flight.
    Anyways, pass this info on, its really neat. Its also why dogs are mans best friend, they can literally SMELL how we're feeling.

    Hi!! thank you so much for this video!!! I’m moving to Japan with my dog as well. I’m having trouble with getting a rabies antibody blood test which we don’t have a lab that is designated by the Minister of Agriculture Japan over here in Canada. Did you send blood sampling to another country’s lab?

    • @TofuNikki
      @TofuNikki  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! Oh, that sounds a bit tricky! Fortunately we were in the UK when the rabies antibody tests were taken, so we didn't have to send them abroad. Our vet sent the tests to the laboratory for us. Maybe you could email that Kansas laboratory and ask some help from them? Or maybe your vet knows something about it? I hope everything goes well for you❣

    Oh thank you so much for sharing 😭 I'm going to be moving to Japan with my fiancee and I just can't leave my cats behind 🥺
    When filling out the notifications of importing animals form, did you need to fill out separate forms per pet? Or were you able to put momo and sora and their information all on one form?
    I'm going to bring my two cats so I hope and want to make the process as smooth as you did with your dogs🥲 ❤

    • @TofuNikki

      Hi! For the advance notification, which I emailed to the Narita airport, I filled out only one form in total. 😊 I can totally relate, I could never leave my dogs behind!🥺❤ Good luck with your process, I hope everything goes well! • @uchi9
      @uchi9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nellysaywhat I've made 35% of progress so far. It's 's definitely a little crazy because for me, I feared that my vet wouldn't know what to do with such a procedure and I sure wouldn't know what to do since I would be trying to figure it out WITH them. And scheduling what to do at what time was another ball to juggle 😅 (because there's money involved here)
      But we should reassure ourselves that these are the people that have access to information/ resources that we don't (that's what I did, at least) and believe both sides will make it work.
      But I hope for you (as it was for me and am currently experiencing) it'll become more clearer as you read and re-read the forms and import guide. That way you'll be able to plan accordingly and make the appointments that are appropriate with each for. That's how it clicked for me.
      I'll be getting my cats microchipped, their "second" rabies vaccine, and same day blood sample drawn next week.
      Best of luck for the both of us.

      @TofuNikki  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Those carrier bags in the video were bought from Finland but I recently bought a new one from Amazon. This should be okay for cabin, but I haven't tested it out yet. I guess every airline has their own rules and measurements for pet carrier bags, found on their website, I recommend to check them out and find a bag that fits in with those regulations. Usually it's not a problem if the carrier bag is slightly taller than those measurements given, it just have to be able to give in and fit under the seat. www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B07CGJHX6T?ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details&th=1

      Hi, if you have time to wait, you can do the blood tests in your country, before moving to Japan. After doing the test, you need to wait for 180 days. But if you need to move sooner, then your pet need to do a quarantine in Japan, it's up to 6 months.

    • @yishihara55527
      @yishihara55527 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's Japan, so before even worrying about if a dog is allowed, you need to think about whether a foreigner is allowed. Most landlords in Japan will not rent to foreigners because of the racism. Normally if a foreigner has imported dogs into Japan they are married to a Japanese national. I brought a dog to Japan in 2003. At the time, home quarantine was required plus two extra trips back to Narita for them to simply take less than five minutes to check the dog. Just the highway fees and gas alone for those extra trips was the equivalent to around $500 at the time. So much red tape.

    Professional Japanese-to-English translator here. I am comparing the Japanese and English versions of the import procedures provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Japan) right now.
    The English versions of these documents have always been absolute disasters for decades. I know because I imported a dog into Japan 20 years ago. For example, in the section "[Reference 1] Rabies vaccination administered before microchip implanting," they write "Eligible dogs and cats" (対象となる犬・猫). 文脈ちゃんと考えろよwww
    This translation project was obviously given to a Japanese national translating into English because in this context we don't say "Eligible dogs and cats" but rather "This section is for dogs and cats to which all of the following conditions apply:" A native English speaker could get confused and think that their dogs need to meet those conditions in order to be ELIGIBLE for import.
    This in another example of why some of these Japanese government institutions NEED to trust foreigners more and allow them to translate their shit correctly. These procedures are a language nightmare and always will be until there are changes. I could clear all of this up if they allowed it...would all be crystal clear in English.

      Dogs are not required to quarantine in Japan, if you wait at least 180 days after doing the rabies antibody test. So before flying to Japan, wait for at least 180 days. 👍
