Sherrie was Steve's real girlfriend for a longtime. They eventually broke up, but it was well publicized that it took a long time for Steve to heal from that break-up.

As someone has already said the woman in the video was his girlfriend at the time and the song is for her. When they broke up, he gave her the rights to the song

Steve did write this song for his girlfriend Sherrie he convinced to be in this video. Despite their eventual break up after 6 years together, Steve always considered this Sherries song and so she still receives the royalties from Oh Sherrie.
A lot of our heroes disappoint us personally but Steve is one of those guys that deserves the "gentleman" title. I have so much respect for him
@arissarox I do also. I got to meet him a few times while in the music industry. He is a humorous and great human being.

The entire Street Talk album was great - my personal favs..' Captured by the Moment' and 'If Only For a Moment, Girl".
I had a boss that hated this song. I never trusted him after that!😁🤣. One of my faves!

I'm still burnt out on this song from when it first came out.
Had a neighbor who was in deep lust/love with the girl who lived on the other side of his house and I swear if he played that song a hundred times he played it thousand for not only her but the whole neighborhood to hear.
Saw Journey in 86, and they managed to sneak this one in.....very suprising

This video was Steve's protest to how they would make a song mean something entirely different than what it was. It's just like you said at the end of the video, and Steve made this as a protest to it. The same with Strung Out. It has a few of the same actors in it. Even though he wrote this song for Sherrie, it wasn't her favorite song on the album. It was Foolish Heart.
Next up should be 'Strung Out'. Which is Steve's second video from this album. However, it's kinda backwards.
Let me explain. 'Oh Sherrie', was indeed the very first released from the album. So which makes sense to do the video first. However, in the Strung Out' video, they talk about doing the 'Oh Sherrie' video. See?! It's kinda backwards, but it's a great song!

Biz you are thinking of the spelling Cherie , Steve's girlfriend at the time was the woman in the video named Sherrie. Cherie i believe is French while Sherrie is Irish/Scottish
O' Sherrie made it to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and " Foolish Heart " made it to No. 18.
I like them alot, but to have a song hit the charts with over 100 la-la-la's is amazing.
