  • Did you ever wonder what happened to the places that Mike Hynson and Robert August visited in the The Endless Summer? The section where Mike and Robert got to a remote coastal village in Ghana has become one of the movie's most enduring scenes - Although it was filmed over 50 years ago it captures the pure essence of surfing adventure in a way that has rarely been repeated. Filmmaker Jamie Tierney always wondered what happened to that little village and what the scene was like there today. One day he packed up his camera and hopped on a plane to Ghana, intent on finding out: This is what he found.

The face of the first Ghanaian that found out he appeared in a famous movie was priceless.

From the Endless Summer to the 3 days of love peace and music (posters),sums up a generation who, at the time, wanted and enjoyed nothing more than to enjoy summer to Infinity.

It's great to see a follow up of the places where this groundbreaking movie was made. It's nice also to see one of the two main stars as well. A retrospective of Robert August's and Mike Hynson's lives since '69 would be very interesting. Robert seems pretty spry and coherent. Mike, on the other hand.....let's just say he sounds like he's indulged a little too much in mind altering substances over the last 50 years.

This is awesome! We watch The Endless Summer after Christmas lunch EVERY year! Very sad what has happened to Labadi Beach but great expression on the rope coiler's face!

Thank you for sharing this movie with the world, and the smile that you put on that man’s face, “the head rope coiler”, the smile that you put on his face was worth all your efforts. A good feeling came over me I know, when I watched it.

The spirit of surfing is alive and well and thriving in Ghana. It's interesting to to know that somebody could actually believe it's good luck to bring a stranger into your home and care for them.

Reflects the horror of what humans are doing to the planet with the pure pleasure that surfing inspires even in the poorest parts of the world.

@@joelseaton5748 your sentiments are 100%, old son. Folks should give back! But, that said, a beach pickup in Ghana ain't gonna permanently solve the problem for that man's village. Ask yourself what worked for the "surfing village" down the road? Tourism? Business? Their beaches are looked pretty pristine.
Not bagging in you, mate, not Africa either. It takes a national _will_ to get this done. Google Rwanda and look up their monthly cleanup policy. They are one of the cleanest nations on earth!
