Do you mean the box I built to hold back the dirt and stone? If so. I had just dug out and resealed the whole foundation so it had fresh gravel all the way around, all the way down to the footer. If I didn’t put the retaining wall around my work area, all that gravel would have just kept falling into it.
The work inside the basement was just renovation. That wall was a dividing wall for the basement room. Shouldn’t have to support the ceiling. If your cutting a hole into concrete block you’ll need a header to support the top of the opening before your window framing goes in. I didn’t need one here because it was an existing window and already had a steel header spanning the opening.
Most homes built should have some type of weeping tile system at the base of the foundation. But in the unlikely scenario where there isn't one. The best thing to do would be to put in sump system under the well floor. Also this window had a solid metal support beam going across the top of the opening from when the house was built. So the 2x8 was only to frame in the window. If the opening doesn't have a support beam then an engineer would be best to consult on what header method would be best to support the opening.

I love that you actually shored your hole. First video I have seen where it was done.
Such a fun watch, even as a larger company its fun to watch these videos and see if we can learn something. There's always something to learn !
Learn what not to do. terrible job
What kind of trade do you hire for this ? Great video!
Generally a residential construction/home improvement contractor..
lovely guy and lovely work.
Did your saw get all the way through that block or did you cut from the inside as well?
Cut from both sides
How do you know if you need a temporary wall ?

What is the window size ? 48” ? Min should be 24” fir each slider ?
Is that a pool?
Wow! what a difference :) What happens if your house doesn't have footer drain? Also, is the 1 x 8 enough on the top to hold the weight from above?

HI i wonder where is your city and if you receive new jobs like this. Thanks
I need 2! Can you do them?
Yes I can, however it’s not a logistical probability.
That’s so cool hope you’re planning on something rad with the basement
Nice build
Nice ! Do you have to place a drain at the bottom of the egress ?
The gravel will allow the water to drain down to the footer drain tile system
Thank you for your help 🙏
what do you do with the water that gets in the window well?
It drains through the rock down to the footer drain
:O I didn’t even know this was possible. Awesome!

I pay rent to live in a basement, and I know my landlord ain’t installing that for me😂.
Well It might be something you want to bring up with him/her because it’s a risk of life to not have an emergency exit.
If someone is living in the basement it is code to have an egress window
Would love a basement..
