    Great video and product advice. I only needed 6 bulbs out of another 24 strand. Using white Hampton Bay led I looked up the liquid tape in white. Worked great and I have extra bulbs. Thanks for the idea.

    Would this method work if I had to cut multiple strands?

    • @dh4880

      I believe so, since the lights are probalby wired in parallel.

  • @sandywjo5
    @sandywjo5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What a great video! I've read up a little on this, and I read that while you can cut LED 2 wire strands, you can't cut LED 3 wire strands. How am I supposed to be sure I only have 2 wires on my specific brand of LED string lights before I cut through that? Just wanna be sure. And second question, another guy talked about in some scenarios if you remove bulbs, that the power will basically redistribute itself back through the remaining bulbs you have left and affect their brightness? I wanted to cut maybe 10 bulbs off end, maybe that is too many.

    thanks for the info was wondering if these were 2 or 3 wires like christmas LEDs. Im assuming since they run 120V in parallel it doesn't make a difference how much length you cut? I know when you cut down 3 wire LED christmas lights if you cut them too short they'll be overpowered and burn out.

    • @dh4880
      @dh4880  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are 2 wire. I don’t think it matters how much you cut off. I cut mine approximately in half and don’t notice a difference or have a problem.

    Hey
    Need some help.
    I bought 3 strips of Brillihood LED Outdoor 50ft G40 String Lights with 50 +2 Shatterproof LED Bulbs. (you can find on amazon)
    I installed them as 3 separate strips going to the same ending point.
    I was wondering if I can cut the wire & extra bulbs off each strip and wire them together and attach them to one plug.
    The plug on the end of them have a 5 AMP fuse in them. Does this affect anything ?
    will it still work ? I will still use the end plug with the fuse in it.
    thanks!

    Nice video... this solution seems too easy! Any negatives to this approach?
    Also, at 2:00, you said that you would be adding receptacles at the ends of both strands, so that you could add on later, and/or use the cut off section to plug in elsewhere. Do you have a separate video for that process? Thanks

    I was hoping this video was going to finally help me answer my question. What I'm hoping to do, instead, is cut a foot of wire out of the middles so that my lights are 12" apart versus the 24" (why do they all come with 2- or 3-ft intervals??). Given that it's just the two wires, I'm guessing I could just cut a section out between each two lights...strip back some of the casing, twist the like cables together, tape it, and then use a heat sleeve to seal it up. For some reason, I've found nothing online that shows that anyone's done this...or at least anyone who's done this and burned their house down?? :)

    • @dh4880
      @dh4880  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The particular lights that you bought must be wired different than the ones that I used. Without seeing exactly what you have it would be hard to troubleshoot. I'm sorry it didn't work for you.

  • @nfinance2

    The proper way to do this is place wire nuts on the ends and then you can dip each nut in the liquid tape. Let set and dip again to give it a thicker seal that will withstand any weather conditions. If your house burns down because of your string light wire not being properly capped off, your insurance company is only going to have one thing to say... "sucks to be you". They will not cover the electrical damage.
