I couldnt imagine how it would be possible to weaponize soda but if someone were to put Nuka Cola Quantum or it's ingredients in a bomb or artillery shell then it might be possible to create a radioactive fog that irradiates unprotected enemies and makes them too sick to fight. Perhaps Nuka Cola was basically a large scale radiological weapon test on an unaware public.
Y'all missed a Holotape, Meacham recording AB35 , it's under the Nuka-Cade ticket roll It goes as follows. Rex Meacham: This is your last chance, Kate. I could still convince J.C. to keep you here if you just agree to join Project Cobalt. Kate Leavitt: First of all, I'm not "Kate" to you... not anymore. And second of all, no thanks, I'm done being your lab rat. I already have my things packed and I'll be out of here by tomorrow. So, until then, why don't you just stay out of my way. Kevin Bennell: Come on, Dr. Leavitt, be reasonable. After the U.S. wins this war, I'm sure they'll close Project Cobalt and we can get back to making people happy. You're one of the most talented scientists I've ever had the pleasure of working with, and I really hate to see you go. Edmund Medford: I'm with Dr. Bennell. I wish we could see what was going on outside! Edmund: Oh my god... the door just sealed. We're stuck down here. Kate: What are you talking about? There's no way out? Edmund: It's a built in safety precaution. Bradberton must have hit the panic button in his office. It seals all the high security areas up tight, his vault, our lab, the power plant's control center... all of it. We have to face facts. We might be down here for a long time. Kate: Well, Rex... looks like you got what you wanted.
OK here's a clever little tidbit. In Fallout 3 if you head to the Nuka-cola bottling plant, you will come across a terminal that mentions tests with the Quantum and how the testers died and Huxley (the Nuka cola PR manager I believe sent out fruit and cheese baskets and here in Bradburtons private terminal he's congratulating Huxley on said baskets. So a nice little tie in the fallout three and it also explains why Quantum was so rare in D.C. It was a test bed for the drink with the super duper mart and Oldfield grocery store as the test shops. But of course the bombs happen. Just some little connections there.
This is one of these things that make Fallout such a good game. You find so many pieces of the past that are funny or tragic and they all are so interesting. I can't even imagine how long this process takes to put all this lore into the game via notes or recordings.
Lol I love how the nuclear reactor outflow pipe, pumping all of its irradiated waste air and water, was dumping it all directly beneath Kiddie Kingdom. I think we found where Oswaldo found the radiation for his traps. One can only imagine what it was doing to all the kids in the park
there is another hidden gem in the irradiated waste pump, the maintenance crew from when the bombs fell have a computer log in the room where they talk about becoming ghouls over the next 100 years and gaining what they called some sort of "affliction" (what we know as feralisation of gouls)
Dr. Ruth Leavitt was a character in a movie called The Andromeda Strain. She was played by actress Kate Reid. Sounds like Bethesda was making a reference to that movie.
It makes more sense that Kate was killed down on the main floor. Rex and Kevin then carried her body up to her room then locked the door. The way she lies on the floor supports this. It would make more sense as well that the door he wants her to stay away from would be the main exit door and they removed the body cause who wants a rotting corpse in your main working area.
Ruth was outside the lab when it happened. The terminal entry at 9:03 said " *I* can't afford to open the door." Meacham was in the position to open the door, not Kate.
Dude I’ve been watching you regularly for a while now. Thanks for that Futurama shoutout #1 favorite show in my #1 favorite game with my #1 favorite fallout TH-camr
I was re-watching this, and it occurred to me that Ruth Leavitt was one of the characters in "The Andromeda Strain" movie. The Fallout Wiki (which calls her Ruth Leavitt in the entry on beverageers ) pointed that out as well (and that Leavitt was played by Kate Reid - so that may have been involved in the name).
there is another hidden gem in the irradiated waste pump, the maintenance crew from when the bombs fell have a computer log in the room where they talk about becoming ghouls over the next 100 years and gaining what they called some sort of "affliction" (what we know as feralisation of gouls)
There was one more holotape (Meacham Recording AB35) in the lab and under the roll of tickets. It has a little more information and them being locked in when the bombs dropped. : ) a year late but good job on the video
12:55 - just a minor thing. It didn't happen in her room. It happened by the exit. They put her body in the room after the fact - or that is what seems to be the most plausible. She was told to get away from the door controls (not her room) then was shot - then Rex tells Kevin "lets take care of this mess" - presumably they didn't just leave her dead in the open but just put her body away in her room.
Oxhorn love your videos. Have been watching for month or so and finally got a channel so I could comment on videos. You have given great ideas for builds and your lore videos are just amazing. I watch Scotch and Smoke Rings every week. Keep up the great content.
I have to admit, with a name like Project Cobalt, I expected a Saturnite shell or two to turn up. A bit disappointed with the lack of such a wonderous alloy.
This quest actually made me wonder about robobrains and why they didn't just use the whole head. But I thought about it a little more and realized they were always planning on using "shady" methods of procuring the brains, so they didn't want someone to see the head of someone they knew when they were alive, in a jar attached to a robot. And they were probably just looking to use the processing power of the brains and didn't need them to communicate.
Dr Strangelove So you would have rather Fallout 4 have come out in 2020 so you could have all these tiny little features added and tested.. ? I think the word you are looking for is "A game development team like any other that is restricted by time constrains and has to deliver the best product possible in as reasonable of a time as possible" .... Not "lazy" That's an easy mistake on your part, though. I guess. Somehow.
Throttle Kitty yep, bethesda even made most of the buttons on the machines unique and all different from eachother. Of course this goes unnoticed by almost everyone, while this eye for detail is far from lazy.
it does strike me as a profound irony that some of the most powerful and informed captains of industry in the old world, House, Bradburton, ended up taking some of the arguably most restrictive and hellish steps towards immortality . Paying the price of humanity physically as well as Morally. A head in a jar, mummified in a pod, brain sucked out and pickled in a brainbot. all terrible, terrible fates.
That's a strange coincidence. I just got to that part of nuka world yesterday and was wondering if you was gonna video on this. Only thing is, "Kate" is killed while trying to leave the lab, but we find a womens body in her room? Ruth, or just another Bethesda oversight?
I think the answer is simpler. Would you really leave a body out in the open of your lab? Wouldn't you rather drag the corpse to a location you aren't going to walk by literally every day? Her own bedroom makes for a nice place to dump her off since you're pretty unlikely to go in there, especially after the body starts to decompose and smell horribly.
If you play fallout 76 you'll find Rex Micham in a terminal entry at the mountain view bed and breakfast. He stayed the night there, which is pretty neat.
A tunnel straight from a reactor to an amusement park. Example #1,438 that OSHA was never created in the Fallout timeline. How anyone survived long enough to start the war is a mystery.
Not sure if I’m right, but I think that The Beverageers grouped up with the people at kiddie kingdom. There is a pipe in the back that connects to the spayer system, so I would imagine that they found each other at some point. That might explain who Ruth was, since everyone down in the tunnels became ghouls.
Just wanted to say thanks, Oxhorn! I normally don't comment on videos, but I wanted to make an exception. Your videos make the work day go by faster. :)
I like to think that Oswald was in kiddy kingdom at the time that he tried to escape, so I wonder if he would be spared as an old friend, or killed by ghouls if he made it.
thenthapple, another fallout lore youtuber. he left over a year ago though, decided to focus on other things in his life. I still subscribe though, good videos and presentation!
I'm a huge fan of fall out but I unfortunately do not have the patience to sit and read every terminal every letter in the game so I get left with alot of doubt or just speculation of the stories in fall out but thank god ur around man to explain and break it down for us it is truly amazing
On my playthrough, I found a Vault 81 jumpsuit in a suitcase inside the room of Edmund Medford (the guy that hung himself). Either this was a random find, or Medford was supposed to be a resident of Vault 81. But one weird thing is, Vault residents are given their jumpsuits upon entry into the vault, not before they enter. Strange.
CottonCube He was probably also working for the institute. The Institute used "couriers" to run holotapes of the twisted research back to the Institute after the bombs dropped and no Oxhorn the Institute predates the nuclear war.....
Very plausible. I believe Rex was scared that Rads would seep in and kill them all when one tried to leave. But Rex... He didn't did it because of him being scared of his fellow beverageers dying. He was totally Nutz.
No, my guess is that its a bit of subtle storytelling - he is probably conflating Kate with someone named Ruth - perhaps a wife or sister - which is why he shows so much remorse over her death. He has lost his mind after all.
The three way conversation happened at the door controls they just moved her body to her room as Rex said "Let's clean up this mess and get back to work,"
I really like these videos for my lunch break at work. Mostly because I get to see if there's anything I missed and many times there is. Btw have you noticed with the Aeternus that power armor somehow will steal it's unlimited ammo ability? Not sure if my game right now glitched or what but it does that. Makes it so survival mode is better without power armor on.
awesome dear Oxhorn i really apriciate xD your efforts so much work and time in all of your vids i watch your vids since wow but with fallout4.. idk i learn so much about all goes and works thank you i am not a native speaker as yoiu can tell :D thank you and keep it coming
I like to think the military notification got the attention of the gunners in one of their hideouts/outposts, and that's why they are at the world of refreshment. I didn't check all of their body's to see if this was the case though
well it might not be a mistake on bethesda because if Rex is actually going insane, Ruth might be someone from his past and he thinks that Kate is Ruth
Imagine the twist if Kevin survived as ghoul. Id like the think that Kevin is out there in the wasteland, living on and bringing his knowledge to others.
I think Bethesda use using the 1950's classic, "This Island Earth" as a reference to the scientists working for Nuka Cola. Cal Meacham was the name of one scientist, and Ruth was the name of the female scientist in that movie. I think they had intended to keep her name as Ruth, but of course, it was a goof.
Also in Safari zone there's a story about a guy looking into Cobalt and then disappears and "goes on vacation" lol. It finally has an entry from someone else saying he was supposed to wipe the terminal but never got to it worrying he would also go on vacation. Also some fun facts: The Quantum drink is actually a reference to a real life drink that a golfer promoted and died from that had radium in it , he claimed it healed him faster. J.C. and his frozen head is a reference to the Disney myth if no one got that. Even the town bradberton nearby actually is a reference to one of Walt Disney's plans that never happened where he was going to build a town people could live in. Lots of Disney references I'm not mentioning.
I never got why bradberton put his head in a stationary jar. Im far harbor there js a vault of celebrities in robrobrains, why not make himself a robrobrain in a private vault
Have been into the employee ares at the wild west park? I found it early by climbing up the large nuka bottle near sheriff hawk and then walking along the wall.
i have a few questions about bradburtons head situation. he said he went a tad mad after staring at a blank wall for 200 years. well, hes a billionair, why not have a tv there, and every movie ever made? why not put himself into a robo brain body? why not do... SOMETHING?! it seems he shares a distinct trait of many geniuses: a lack of common sense. "hey, after im done, i have no body, nor any way to move, so maybe i should do something to occupy my time after the bombs fall." SOMEHOW, this thought didnt cross his mind before he got his head cut off. honestly, i wish bethesda had put SOMETHING into a terminal or somesuch, saying that he did have a plan, aaand it never got done, because bombs.
Oxhorn my man! You deserve 15+ Million Subscribers You're the greatest Fallout TH-cam. The lore and how you explain it Amazing! ^__^ I have been subbed for 6 month approximately. Have you thought of making your own mods?
This is excellent. I need to find those cappies tho. Is there any chance @Oxhorn of a video covering the Commonwealth immediately after the bombs fell? The Mayoral Shelter sacked and its inhabitants killed, the hospital taking casualties, all little bits referring to that time, suggest a very, very harsh time. The present Commonwealth is a desolate, devastated place with no functioning institutions (there is the Institute but they're responsible for those friendly green men) or economy, and certainly no hospitals. It would suggest there was a collapse somewhat after the bombs. It would be great if you could draw the little terminal comments together. Thank you.
I've had an idea for a new video you could make. Obviously there's a plethora of stories throughout the Fallout games, large and small. But Bethesda has always been good about putting in tiny little micro-stories throughout their environments as well. Little anecdotes that aren't really part of a larger narrative, but simply there to help flesh out the world and make things feel that much more organic. Case in point, the female skeleton found in the ladies bathroom of College Square Station. It's just down the first set of stairs on the left, past the indigenous feral ghouls. The woman's remains are hidden away in the last stall behind a closed door, with an empty baby carriage just outside. Once opened (after you've neurotically checked for booby traps) you find a skeleton in a dress with her hand shoved down the toilet, and in her hands she's clutching a baby's rattle. There are no other clues as to who she was or what happened here, but given the evidence one could make a strong argument that this woman was, in fact, attempting to drown her own child in an act of psychotic desperation following the bombs. It would make sense since she could have feasibly survived the initial blast as she was located underground upon detonation, and if she were a woman of weak constitution or mental fortitude she might have seen this as the most merciful thing to happen to her child. And thus we have one of many micro-stories hidden within the code of Fallout for us players to enjoy at our leisure. Now obviously there are FAR too many of these micro-stories to do an in-depth coverage of them all in detail, but I think you could get an episode or three out of the idea. What were some micro-stories that stuck out to you? There are dozens more stories like this of a darker nature, but there are just as many of a more lighthearted and hopeful nature as well. You'd be able to stick as many or as few micro-stories into the video as you like, so it'd be at your own pace. If you ever find yourself stuck for ideas and just want to fall back on something less research heavy I think this would be a good opportunity to make some relaxed and varied content for your channel. And with the holidays coming up I think you'd enjoy a chance to relax a bit, eh?
12:50 i think your off on that happening in her room, because remember in the recording he said "get away from the door controls" and at the end he told the remaining scientist that they need to clean up the mess and get back to work? They probably threw her body in the room so they wouldn't have to see it or smell it IMO anyway
You know, this makes me wonder what would have happened if Mr House and Bradberton had met after the War. In return for anything he could do for Bradberton, House could've had those Nuka-Weapon upgrades put on his Securitrons or integrated the Nuka World robots into his army. Can you imagine what the Securitrons would be like with the Nuka-Quantum grenades and other Nuka-Armaments? He wouldn't have needed to have his Platinum Upgrade in the first place to fight off the NCR and Legion!
If they were locked down there, how did the Nuka Nuke launcher end up in Bradburton's vault? Did he make it while being just a head in a jar and had it locked away where it would cut off his life support?
I just find it hilarious that while Rex was developing a stable quantum solution for weapons, the rest of the wasteland was sticking a bottle of quantum in a can with some explosives and getting the same result.
I honestly think the whole park is a poke at Disney World, and Bradburtons fate is a tribute to the legend that Walt's head was Cryogenically Frozen.
Even the world "beverageers" is a direct parallel of the "imagineers" from disney parks
Oh yeah definitely right when I saw the head I was like this had also gotta be a troll to Disney

Yea, if you look closely you can see a blood smear in her room coming from the door.
im thinking that Ruth was maybe a caregiver or maid, and thats why there is a body in the bedroom, Kate's body is wherever the door is.

L. Wolf wait...so kate was a fake name? wtf?
Lol Rex you idiot look at the system you supported. XD
oh wow yeah that answers the ruth dilemma
@@magnuschristianssen8999 It could be a nickname. She is so mad that she is no longer “Kate” to them.
@@sabrinarosario6499 Yeah I'm thinking its that or maybe she meant it as in "you can't call me by my first name anymore"
I was expecting to find Kevin turned into a ghoul :D
That would have been fitting, yet tragic. :)
Ritesh Bansode lol ya i though it was a possibility and he would be a quantum ghoul....or somthing...
I liked Kevin
Ritesh Bansode I have no idea, I mean NO idea why, but he reminds be about James (Your dad's friend) in fallout 3
James is your dad
All of these tiny stories found in places in fallout 4 would make good movies
RamWorkz The Fallout series should be made into movies!!!!!
it's almost like they were movies or something
@@calebdaily1049 That's basically what modern video games are.
So the radiation from the reactor was dumped into the kiddie park...
6:11 the guy hung himself after killing Kate, and in the weapons room the other guy shot himself after they killed her
It seems wrong, yes.
BUT.
the DLC trailer talks about how every minimum acceptable safety standard is met.
Maybe it passed?
What I want to know is, who cut Bradburton's hair for 200 years?
lol love it
His built in Flowbee. ;)

Well, if you get your head taken off, your hair probably cant grow.
Your Lore's are the thing That makes me continue playing fallout! Keep up the good work up
Thats definetly one of my favorite lore stories in all of nuka world
This is one of these things that make Fallout such a good game.
One can only imagine what it was doing to all the kids in the park
there is another hidden gem in the irradiated waste pump, the maintenance crew from when the bombs fell have a computer log in the room where they talk about becoming ghouls over the next 100 years and gaining what they called some sort of "affliction" (what we know as feralisation of gouls)
is it bad i want quantum urine just because glowing blue pee would be amazing

I've been following for awhile now, and I just started watching your lore videos. They've become my favorite thing.
They're just a goddamned soda company, why are they so evil?!

Magnus Christianssen uh huh
so being a atheist is a bad thing?
"huh, why is there a skeleton in here?"
*looks up*
oohh...
Theres so much lore and stories to discover in this game.
I would assume Ruth is Rex's wife as if it was a goodbye note, not a reference to Kait
And yet he said he was "forced" to kill her because she was leaving the vault. His wife was not in the vault.
Oh okay. Well as I said it was just an assumption.
I thought the same thing,
Ruth was outside the lab when it happened.

Its amazing that you sound like Tom Hanks, especially when you cover these lore stories, great vid
I just realized Nuka Cola is Disney and Coca Cola mixed
DarkMaximo324 well sure
Well, the Beverageers' name immediately evokes Disney's Imagineers, so chalk another similarity into the already long list.
The Albertan Mapper yep, the power of American capitalism.
DarkMaximo324 well the whole idea of it seems to be based off Disney, Nukaworld just kinda revealed it
The Albertan Mapper disney cola
Subscribed a month ago and Oxhorn is without a doubt the best story teller on TH-cam. Perfect voice for it and he speaks so clearly its great.
Ruth may have been an assistant he killed earlier.
Oxhorn love your videos. Have been watching for month or so and finally got a channel so I could comment on videos. You have given great ideas for builds and your lore videos are just amazing. I watch Scotch and Smoke Rings every week. Keep up the great content.
Thanks for watching!
thanks for explaining the mistake Bethesda made and telling the Story of the event.
I have to admit, with a name like Project Cobalt, I expected a Saturnite shell or two to turn up.
A bit disappointed with the lack of such a wonderous alloy.
Oxhorn seems like an amalgam of Ken Burns and Paul F. Tompkins. These lore videos are going to make me replay Fallout 4 this summer!
This quest actually made me wonder about robobrains and why they didn't just use the whole head. But I thought about it a little more and realized they were always planning on using "shady" methods of procuring the brains, so they didn't want someone to see the head of someone they knew when they were alive, in a jar attached to a robot. And they were probably just looking to use the processing power of the brains and didn't need them to communicate.
why bethesda dont put the option to find jcb a sinth body?
if you were with the institute
There are a lot of things they could have done with the institute but didn't! D:
Idk
Codsworth 004 Bethesda was to lazy to put in the effort to detail the questline
I don't subscribe to many channels but you have good content, so I subscribed. Keep up the good work!
Philosojoey you lied

That's a strange coincidence. I just got to that part of nuka world yesterday and was wondering if you was gonna video on this. Only thing is, "Kate" is killed while trying to leave the lab, but we find a womens body in her room? Ruth, or just another Bethesda oversight?
She could have been dragged there, or that is where their conversation took place and Rex shot her as she was about to leave.
12:07
OCAdam Maby if they put the body outside or to the back of the service tunnel, but just in the next room!?!? That's just as crazy.
artik5552 That's just crazy. :3
Or Rex was indeed crazy and his mind decided that she was someone else entirely.
These story videos are brilliant Ox!
Just a coincidence but one of Dixie's Souvenirs has a woman named Kate addressing a woman named Ruth.
when I went through and found Kevin he had a folder next to him. perhaps it was this folder that Rex was afraid of Kevin taking?
Not sure if I’m right, but I think that The Beverageers grouped up with the people at kiddie kingdom. There is a pipe in the back that connects to the spayer system, so I would imagine that they found each other at some point. That might explain who Ruth was, since everyone down in the tunnels became ghouls.
That interesting moment when I go to watch an Oxhorn vid, and the preceding ad is for "Dollar Beard Club."
Just wanted to say thanks, Oxhorn! I normally don't comment on videos, but I wanted to make an exception. Your videos make the work day go by faster. :)
Thanks for watching!
I like to think that Oswald was in kiddy kingdom at the time that he tried to escape, so I wonder if he would be spared as an old friend, or killed by ghouls if he made it.

if Nuka Cola gives you rads how many does it take to kill you
If each gives +5, and there's 1000 total before you die, 1000/5, 200. so 200 bottles
looks like I'm gonna try that
good luck finding 200 bottles man, see ya in 2017

I got nuka world yesterday and I'm so excited so I'm watching EVERYTHING again because I've been a fan for very long
I'm a huge fan of fall out but I unfortunately do not have the patience to sit and read every terminal every letter in the game so I get left with alot of doubt or just speculation of the stories in fall out but thank god ur around man to explain and break it down for us it is truly amazing
is it me or does nuka land sound like some weird cooperation thing between disney and coca cola
OXHORN WHAT ABOUT WOW VIDEOS? PLS DUDE YOU MADE MY CHILDHOOD
Loving the lore videos, man. Keep 'em comin'!
+Magnus Christianssen
According to the Wikia page, the Institute was formed in 2210 by surviving members of the Commonwealth Institute of Technology.
Very plausible. I believe Rex was scared that Rads would seep in and kill them all when one tried to leave.
But Rex... He didn't did it because of him being scared of his fellow beverageers dying. He was totally Nutz.
great videos. I appreciate the effort you out into this interesting art form. you are a true artist my friend !
No, my guess is that its a bit of subtle storytelling - he is probably conflating Kate with someone named Ruth - perhaps a wife or sister - which is why he shows so much remorse over her death. He has lost his mind after all.
I bet many of us had the same "oh shit" thought when we saw the noose for the first time.

Excellent job on the video Oxhorn. keep them coming I absolutely love these. you do an amazing job of them.
The three way conversation happened at the door controls they just moved her body to her room as Rex said "Let's clean up this mess and get back to work,"

why is it so satisfying to listen to those plastic containers going plop when you drop them?

Beverageer=Imagineer. Plus the old, Walt is in cryo-sleep, rumor.
"hey, after im done, i have no body, nor any way to move, so maybe i should do something to occupy my time after the bombs fall." SOMEHOW, this thought didnt cross his mind before he got his head cut off. honestly, i wish bethesda had put SOMETHING into a terminal or somesuch, saying that he did have a plan, aaand it never got done, because bombs.
or hes just a idiot
plenty of those in fallout. the NUKA COLA musto con to his head! moral here: keep of the radioactive sauce boys.
I was gonna ask how you have so many fusion cores but I was just exploring the immediate area around fort Hagen and found 10. Question withdrawn.
12:50 i think your off on that happening in her room, because remember in the recording he said "get away from the door controls" and at the end he told the remaining scientist that they need to clean up the mess and get back to work? They probably threw her body in the room so they wouldn't have to see it or smell it IMO anyway
I really want to find a TH-camr that grabs everything that isn't bolted down while looting
You missed a Holotape under a stack of Nuka-Cade Tickets
This channel has the best memes.
They should have called the isotope smurf since it's just a magic maguffin that can be used for anything. Plus it's blue.
