    I’ve released an updated video which covers everything in this one and way, way more, especially since this pre-dates the avionics updates. The updated video is here: th-cam.com/video/4osSQxdP2SI/w-d-xo.html

    Awesome video. As a person wanting to get into flight sims, your series has made my life a lot easier. I am now understanding the steps and concepts required in an easy to digest format. Please keep making your videos. They are not only a great source of information, but, an inspiration to fly in this game.

    This is a great video. Clear instructions but I am still completely lost. LOL. I have about 200 hours of cockpit time now as an observer with my uncle who has been flying for 46 years. It's crazy that I find myself more comfortable in an actual aircraft than I do using this simulator. Like I actually feel as though I would have a greater chance of surviving an actual real life flight by myself rather than successfully completing a flight using this simulator. Although realistically I never plan to find out. Observation will be my limit, I only wish this was the case with Harrison Ford.
    Nonetheless, I did like this video and it has a like from me. Cheers.

      Agree with Steve Miller. Very clear explanation. Looking forward to future videos. This from an 80 y.o. pilot with ZERO hours in a glass cockpit aircraft! Also, nice to hear Americanized English in an instructional video.

    Just a quick note, in your video, you are hiding the bottom of the G1000's, can't see the buttons.

      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indeed, I realized afterwards that I should have zoomed in when pressing the buttons.

    How do you ok land I’m used to ifr flying and it automatically liking you with runway but with gps you kind of just go over , should you turn it off and manually land?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, when you get close to the airport you can disable the AP and bring it in yourself. This might help you with that: th-cam.com/video/EwaF37CcjBQ/w-d-xo.html

    Also have just come across your channel , and thankyou for putting the effort in ; each ep. is concise, articulate , and clearly explained - you're adept at making no assumptions about a viewer's prior knowledge without being patronising. I'm about 110 hours into MSFS and I got something new and useful out of each one.
    Specifically on this episode you raise the issue about the poor 'ergonomics' of using the rotary controls at the MFD - is there a keyboard binding for those functions controlled in the sim this way as an alternative input ?
    Also great to see you using flights down here in Oceania !

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I can tell, not all controls on the instrument panel have key bindings. At least, I wasn't able to find them all. And I lived in Australia for two years so I have an affinity for it ;)

    • @FlightSimSchool

      You can see them in the navlog before you launch the flight, or if you click on FPL you might see them if you’re using the working title g1000 mod.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There have been some major improvements to the G1000 since I made this video, but there are still some bugs. What are you struggling with?

    • @jorge_781
      @jorge_781 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FlightSimSchoolOne example is when I build the flight plan in Little NavMap or in the internal FS2020 flight planner, some waypoints or fixes simply dissapear when I check the FPLN key in G1000.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, that might be due to differences in the nav database. LittleNavMap by default has a fairly old nav data, and some of those waypoints might not exist anymore, so the G1000 just ignores them.

  • @mikecoffee100
    @mikecoffee100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    can you measure distances in FS 2020 IE way points 5 10 15 25 etc

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a distance between every waypoint on your flight plan, which you can see by pressing the FPL button on the instrument panel when you’re flying round

    Can GPS navigation also let the AP control altitude?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      GPS is lateral guidance only. There is something called vnav which can handle altitude changes but it doesn’t work very well in msfs

    Could you please switch to the instrument view (closeup) when explaining wherever different things are displayed on the MFDs? I have 20/20 vision and a big TV, and I still have a really hard time finding where the things you are mentioning are. Especially the magenta text is really difficult to see, because of the compression of colours.

    Hello, great video! I was wondering how to go about changing your flight path mid-flight? Say if you wanted to redirect to a different airport or change the flight path completely how do you go about putting a different waypoint or airport/destination in the GPS? Thanks for any feedback.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The easiest way to do that is to use the Direct To mode. It's a button that has a D with an arrow through it. From there, you can enter whatever airport id you want and fly straight to it.

    On the left screen there are two large arrows pointing towards your destination. The yellow one was on throughout the video and the purple one appeared at the end. What is the purpose of the purple arrow, does it indicate the altitude you should be flying at?
    Thanks for the videos. I’m finding them to be a massive help. You’ve got a great way of explaining the various subjects, in a clear and concise way.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The yellow one represents your airplane's current attitude relative to the horizon.. The purple one is called the flight director, and it comes on when you enable the auto-pilot. You can learn more about the flight director in my video on the autopilot, specically the "Autopilot & Flight Director Familiarization" part: th-cam.com/video/Rj5huspwZx8/w-d-xo.html

    I've been having a problem with my course not lining up to my waypoint and I do my flight plan in the sim before I get into plane so I'm not sure how to set up the course line to point at the correct direction for my plane to follow so I can use the nav hold button.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it still following the course, but a bit offset the flight plan? Or it's not following the flight plan at all?

    Is there no way to increase the gps view range? I move the switch but it just stays at 5 nm

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Range knob has two functions. If you turn it, it changes the range in and out, but if you toggle it left right up or down, you're moving the cursor (albeit very, very slowly). Hope that helps!

    I have been using GPS , auto pilot with ILS thanks to your videos. My question is after watching this one is how to set waypoints in GPS? I have been flying straight to the airport after take off. A straight line from A to B.

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have a few options. If you want to fly visually (vfr) you can click on any point on the world map to add waypoints between your departure and arrival. If you toggle your flight to ifr, it will automatically add waypoints for you so that you fly on common routes.

    • @davidlawson2326

      @@FlightSimSchool so I can make an ifr plan and then switch to GPS?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the ifr flight plan should use gps by default to follow the waypoints, you can check the flight plan loaded properly by clicking the FPL button

    Could you also use the "flight Director " to get to your flight path?

    • @FlightSimSchool
      @FlightSimSchool  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorta but I wouldn’t recommend it. The flight director tells you what attitude it thinks you need to fly to get back on course, but it’s not a reliable way to tell where you’re going.
