[ENG SUB] How Earthquake Early Warning works : smartphone and radio broadcast

- Osaka earthquake struck in northern Osaka area, Japan on 18 June 2018.
This dashcam video was recorded in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Pref, 30 kilometers away from epicenter.
Smartphone beeped several times, and told "an earthquake has just occurred" in female voice. One second later than the first beep, Earthquake Early Warning was broadcasted on radio in male voice with chimes.
Earthquake Early Warning : en.wikipedia.o... - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
With a large network of sensors spread all over the place, not only are people alerted at the same time, but scientists can track the progress in real time and hopefully someday learn the truth about what triggers TH-cam Recommendations.

Puts on the most stressful noise possible and says “do not panic”
Japanese people are used to earthquakes, so even if they feel a big tremor, they don't feel a sense of danger. This siren helps them understand the seriousness of the situation.
earthquake: occurs
other countries: panic
japan: calm, riding a bicycle, beep beep
Same with here in New Zealand. If I feel one I don't even react anymore.
Well if you get earthquakes alot there is no point to freak out because most buildings are certified for high stage earthquakes
Then there's the Philippines, where your phone warns you AFTER you get crushed to death by falling debris

Well the early broadcast system was indeed early..like 0,5 seconds. Still good.
These 2-3 seconds could save a lot of lives. At least you have some time to realize where to protect yourself from the earthquake.
Here we gather today watching a short video uploaded 2 years ago, with no idea, just out of curiosity, has clicked the video, watched whole of it, and here you are reading the comments, wondering why we gather here and why is the video from 2 years ago suddenly came up, and watched the video and read the comments and wonder why we gather here, discussing after the video in the comment and wondering why are you reading this long boring comment :(
In my country we have similar type of early warning messages. Except you receive it hours or days after it happened
The alert was so fast 🤯
The announcer did a great job not like the news reporter where I'm from who just freaked
You can tell that earthquakes are such an ordinary thing in Japan that people would just walk by with no care at all.

The way people keep going shows that it's pretty common in Japan.
Did you know that the Queen of Mother Earth in Indonesia is the mastermind behind the tragedy of major natural disasters that befell other countries, all of which are recorded internationally, namely:
1). The eruption of Mount Toba. (UNESCO).
2). The eruption of Mount Tambora.
3). The eruption of Mount Krakatoa.
4). The eruption of Mount Samalas.
5). 2004 Tsunami Aceh (The 2004 tsunami started in Aceh Indonesia and then spread to many countries. Thailand, India, Sri Lanka. The incident was more devastating in Indonesia because it started there and destroyed many areas in other countries).
6). Flash floods in Indonesia (Timor Leste was also hit).
7). And many others. You can see on Wikipedia about natural disasters in Indonesia. (Natural disasters in Indonesia are much crazier).
Indonesia has a special title as the number 1 country with the most recorded natural disasters and has never shifted its position to date. Queen Mother Earth in Indonesia is indeed very different from other countries, known as the most beautiful but also the deadliest. Actually, it was not Japan, Chile, the Philippines, US, and Italy that experienced the worst natural disasters, but Indonesia. Because natural disasters in Indonesia are categorized as the deadliest, most brutal and most frequent. Even Indonesia is called a mass grave with a very large number of victims.
I know that throughout 2021 in Indonesia there have been more than 1800 natural disasters. Meanwhile, in 2020, more than 2000 natural disasters occurred in Indonesia. It's no secret that Indonesia holds the highest ranking even number 1 in the world and is the most brutal in natural disasters. There is no Queen Mother Earth in other countries that replaces the position of Queen Mother Earth in Indonesia.
If you look closely, the maps of the islands in Indonesia are far from each other. Unlike the islands in the Philippines, Japan, New Zealand and the Maldives which are close together. This indicates that the rampage of the Queen Mother Earth in Indonesia is so powerful that it can even split the mainland between the islands of Sumatra and Java. That's so crazy.
Closing sentence :
She is the most beautiful, she is the most unique, she is the strangest but she is also the most deadly, namely the Queen of Mother Earth in Indonesia.
(Indonesia is the throne of Queen Mother Earth).

I live in Japan so I can tell you that small earthquakes, like this, are barely noticeable when you're on the move. Much less so for the elderly.
But when you're stationary on ground level, then you can feel it (and feels much more powerful when you're in a multi-story building).
I remember chilling in my 2nd floor, 60-yr old dormitory when the March 11 earthquake happened back in 2011.
Felt like the whole building was going to collapse even though I was in Tokyo (which was super far from the epicenter compared to the areas hit by the proceeding tsunamis).

meanwhile in our country: *sometimes we get those alerts hours after*
*most of the times we don't*
Dutchsinse (TH-cam) is surprisingly good at predicting them days ahead of time. It’s downright fishy that the USGS won’t test his theories.
but it would be actually boring to watch Dutchsinse predict it for hours just so that you can be aware, unless you're well interested on the field and has a lot of free time the whole day.
wtf the beep comes first then the earthquake, that's impressive af
I was in Japan for only three weeks and 6 earth quakes occurred that I was aware of. 2 pretty intense ones, 2 that I realised where happening and then the last 2 I didn’t even pick up on. Honestly after the first couple you’ll get used to smaller ones like this. Meanwhile an earthquake in Europe always messes with me like you’re not supposed to be here
It's insane that you had that much warning 30km away from the epicenter. Earthquakes travel insanely fast and it the message was able to be transmitted even quicker
It helps there are two types of waves when an earthquake happens. P waves are weaker and travel faster, these are what triggers the alarms. The S waves are slower and are the ones we actually feel. Because they are slower, they arrive after the alarm has gone off.
@@GCAT01Living Very true. There is less distance between the P and S waves closer to the epicenter as they are both released at the same time and the difference is more visible at greater distances. It just goes to show how impressive and efficient this technology is and I'm glad to see the United States beginning to implement the same kinds of stuff.
The irony of earthquake early warning systems is that the closer you are to the earthquake, the more you need the warning but the less time you have to be warned.
Why did this pop up in everyone’s recommended today, is yt trying to play psychic

The cyclists continuing like nothing happened is the funniest thing
It’s Japan, what do you expect?
man kept biking even though an earthquake just happened
This is Japan
“Same shit, different day”
For those who think this is useless, it is not. Sometimes, people are in the middle of deep sleep or in a location where tremors are not yet felt, it helps to have this warning to be informed of the situation where others are concerned. My fellow Filipinos are laughing at our current notification system but most of the time, it works efficiently during a disaster. I used to live in another country where an earthquake occured and not one of my Chinese housemates woke me up during an earthquake and no alarm systems either, I was so tired and in deep sleep. Imagine my surprise when I found out the next day. People just love to ridicule things they know nothing about.
Also, in places where earthquakes are rare, some people might think the shaking is from an explosion or a terrorist attack, like what happened in Virginia in 2011, where a 5.8 earthqiake was felt as south as North Carolina, and as far north as New York City, and yes, people thought of 9/11 when the earth shook there. I think the Android Earthquake Alerts System should also work there, so people's nerves would calm much more quickly.
The reason why East Coast earthquakes are felt in a much wider area than in the West, is while the West is more fractured when it comes to its seismic boundaries, sitting at the boundary of the Pacific and Juan de Fueca, and North American Plates, the East is mostly sitting in quite a solid and thick part within the latter plate.
i love how people just walking by and people on their bikes just seem to not care
I would too if I didn’t understand what the fuck it said
I honestly find it so cool how it can trigger the warning just as the earthquake hits, no need for any manual alert to be sent or anything.
