This was my first show.....Thank you for posting it on video...I've listened to it a million times, but some 33 years later a friend put this on FB and I found it. Increbible memories as a 17 year old kid from Chicago. Goosebumps. Awesome!
Trouble ahead, Jerry in red. My dark horse pick for best of ‘87. I had this tape almost immediately and it still had a number of favorite versions...namely Aiko. There’s such a different energy in a second set Aiko as opposed to a show opener. Jer just peels off those effortless sparklefalls. So sick Box is also my fave post breakout take.
Man what an epic show for me in 87. I will never be that tweaked again either. The whole experience was incredible l8ke a cosmic roller coaster unforgettable
kx9x isn’t is a trip when your highest funnest times simply appear on TH-cam? It happened to me not long a ago as well. Took me right back to my exact seat location and state of mind.
Nice to see a video if a show I attended. (Wish the camera had pulled back a bit more to show the entire band) After the show Billy and Brent showed up at Kingston Mines and sat in with house band Jimmy Johnson’s Blues Band (Syl’s brother) I taped it, but manger Frank Pellagrino caught me and took the tape. One of his henchmen returned it to me after they bulk erased it. One of my advertisers was my guest at these Chicago shows and was amazed that I knew they would be at this bar. I didn’t, actually. But many big names would jam there when in town. The bar would treat a limo ride before hand filled with “goodies” for any celebs that agreed to sit in. The list of participants is quite impressive. Kingston Mines would then use it in their boastful ads, and why not! Oh.. what did they play? Don’t remember everything, but Brent sang on Little Red Rooster. Pretty sure they did a Wang Dang Doodle and a couple of other Chicago Blues standards and an instrumental jam.
Loved this run of shows. It was so different than that fall tour re crowd & energy. In the Dark came out and suddenly it was much more difficult to find tickets. For reasons I don't quite get doing your or a part of tour became popular with fraternities. I grew up in a college town and had a strong dislike for frat boys and everything that goes with them.
Hiya Chris! I was hanging with YOU for this show. Front row balcony, just above/to the side of Brent. This was the best show I ever saw. Thanks for the ticket!
I was at that show. I was 17 years old. I was in the bathroom at the set break... Guy asked me do you want to dose. While taking a piss. I took the fluff. And doised the night away,...
The pitfall was I had some sort of gastrointestinal problem and laid down in the hallway. The staff wanted me to go to the hospital but there was no way I was missing the shows. Flew home day after the last show. Didn't want to break the streak I had going. Hadn't missed a show since summer tour 85 great year bye the way
On paper the 2nd set looked weak, blues'd out in Chitown, especially after the Scarlet->Fire->Playin'->UJB...the night before, but being in the front row it was amazing, end of Looks Like Rain especially, yes the Peter, You guessed it," Box O' Rain (just perfect), almost went into The Other One after a sweet He's Gone..."...Nothing wrong with a Shakedown opener...Amazing Sugaree the next night...Not what they played, but it was how well they played it..., And I got down to front row just for the second set because my friend who had a front row ticket met me mid way, and I leaned on him as we headed down to the front row like he was holding me up so I didn't fall and security only checked his ticket while I just nodded and waived my back row ticket while they passed us on through to the rail right below Jerry and Brent. Wink!
You're so right. I almost passed on listening to this - or at least prioritizing it - because of the song list. Now I can't stop listening to it. What a Peter!!!!

Sometimes it’s the simplest of set lists that end up rocking your socks off! What a solid second set
The best show I ever saw! Can't believe there's video of this night. Spectacular evening on so many levels. Thank you!
