    I remember why I turned to keto in the first place and that makes me more committed. I am stronger than the sugary carbage frankinfood. This is my only body to live in and I am worth quality food.

    This is good advice, I don't panic over unknown carbs in foods and such when I go to events, I eat as Keto as possible but knowing myself I can't let myself have a holiday off from Keto, I'm sure it would become a holiweek and then a holimonth etc. So for me the happy balance is I eat "dirty" keto when out and not worry about it but still stay away from the breads, and desserts that will trigger my old tastebuds.

    • @pittsburgh-gal
      @pittsburgh-gal 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Curious- I hear people mention "dirty" Keto. What do you mean? Thanks. Is that like eating a fast food burger without the bun?

    • @grannysquareswagonwheels2604
      @grannysquareswagonwheels2604 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pittsburgh-gal Everyone who eats dirty keto has a different version. It can mean anything from eating keto but not caring about ingredients so for instance eating soybean and vegetable oils regularly and along with that some that will even eat starches as long as it isn't wheat to those that will even eat wheat as long as the carbs are low enough per serving. Another version of dirty keto is a name for someone who doesn't track their foods but kind of keep track of the amount of carbs in their heads and still keep it low enough to be keto. So for me, when I go out to eat or have a special occasion, I don't fret too much about whether something is made with vegetable oils or I won't eat something with obvious flour or other starch but if I think their might be a Tablespoon or two in the entire casserole or something I'm not going to worry about a small serving, etc.

    This is my first holiday abstaining from carbs and sweets. Usually I'd go off my diet and indulge and suffer the consequences. I made it thru Thanksgiving by making a low carb dessert to enjoy after spending time with family. It helped a lot. I will try to do the same for Christmas. I wanted to bring a low carb dessert for my family to try but I don't like pushing my WOE on anyone although I feel my family would benefit from a Keto diet. Many of them feel that these illnesses and aches and pains are all a part of getting old and being on medication makes everything OK. I refuse to believe that!

    I'm in weight maintenance and have used Keto to control my IBS for the last 18 months. I do give myself permission to enjoy traditional foods on special occassions, which are holidays, birthdays, and my wedding anniversary only. It's not Sunday dinner every Sunday or even date night. Fortunately for me, I can't stray for long because if I do more than 1-2 days, my IBS is always there to immediately get me back on track, with a vengeance!

    Appreciate the encouragement. I have been doing Keto and intermittent fasting since Oct 26, 2018. To date have lost 52 lbs. I have been very by the book but planned to make a small keto friendly version of pumpkin pie for myself and enjoy eating it. Most everything else I am cooking will be Keto friendly. My other household persons are not Keto nor will I restrict them to follow my Keto plan. The area I will likely transgress is in terms of veggie amounts. I will relax the 20 grams for that day only but still hope to by pass sugar and bread.

    On my channel, I champion staying clean and abstinent, daily. Like many of my subs and clients, I'm a recovering food addict. This permission slip to eat carbs disappointed me. Sigh.... one bite of sugar could take an addict to a place where who knows the consequences. One bite of sugar is too much, and a thousand bites is never enough. Sarah

    I wish I could just eat small amounts of carbs. Unfortunately, one bite and it triggers a binge. If I don’t succumb to the extreme urge to binge I am miserable just wanting to eat more. I am on KETO maintenance since April 2017 and not having but a few bites or cheat meals making my day life miserable...

      "Cheating" with clean chocolate or pure nut butters aren't so bad. I just chose to cheat myself out of ketosis...by eating almost 2 pumpkin pies in 2 days...with tons of whipped cream. Needless to say, neither item was close to clean. But, we've been doing so well for so long so I said "F it". I don't feel guilty but I'm not going to allow myself to get so hung up on mouth pleasure that I'll continue to go ape shit. Going more clean carnivore has made it more of an issue but the items I mentioned have been helping me. I hope they can help you, too. I get 100% almond butter from Target's brand, Simply Balanced (online they have organic, too) or ShopRite's brand, Wholesome Pantry. I found the chocolate on Amazon & the price per bar is about the same as buying crappy Lindt from Target.

    When you allow carbs, you miss them. When you miss carbs, you eat them. We don't miss what we aren't eating. If you really want to make it through the holidays, focus on eating the healthy foods you do like. And put your health first, bring the snacks you like so you have something to eat if you are not sure about the desserts that will be available. Your friends and family want to see you, Not see you eat.

      Great Advise. that is exactly what I did Christmas day and my family understood perfectly why I did it. I told my daughter to not be offended that I did not eat any of her wonderful ham cooked with honey and oranges. I could not take the sugar. She totally understands that one bite is to many and a 1000 are never enough.

    Good advice! I recently came back from a 10 night cruise. First let me say I'm fat adapted. I had wine every night with dinner and had several deserts. One night i had pumpkin pie. I did not eat the crust. Long story short, when I returned home, I was still in ketosis and had lost 1/2 pound. You can do it if you are conservative with your choices and give yourself permission to have a "little".

    I am so grateful for the rich, fatty foods that are now on my plate I really don't crave carbs anymore. The only exception is perhaps desserts,especially as I am not a fan of artificial sweeteners. But for the times I do want a sweet.....have you heard of Adapt Your Life? Excellent!

  • @bambukouk
    @bambukouk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It's not the craving that is the problem (at least for me)...
    The biggest problem is social pressure from people who do not have a clue about what I am doing :-)
    but, I am getting better at saying - no thank you
    and if they are offended - it's their problem...

    • @lynnmrie
      @lynnmrie 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As for social pressure I find the people who will apply pressure to me about my food choices basically have no problem with those who drive through mcdonalds daily and eat hotpockets. So I consider their opinions null and void. No thank you is ALL we need to say! good luck!

      My friend has the perfect way to get out of eating carbs. She gets eczema with itchiness and water blisters when she eats gluten. Since almost all carbs have some gluten or have been cross-contaminated with gluten, the carbs are pretty much all off limits.
      Also, I have an acquaintance who got so much negativity from family that she hasn't spent a holiday dinner with them for over 10 years.

    Bad advice! I can not imagine ever giving permission to an alcoholic to take a holiday from abstinence! They can’t”take a holiday” from their addictions. Neither can food addicts. The holiday WILL turn into a week or month, if not more. Don’t do it! Grandma will get over it if you say no thank you to her pie!

      I don't believe that what he said at all. He encouraged folks to stay in control, which isn't binging, but to give themselves a break if they find they are in a situation and do not have healthier/keto choices available to them. So he was clear that people should get right back onto Keto the next day. Obviously everyone has difference triggers and so for you, sounds like you need to stay strict Keto.

      For many people, that one meal of carbs can set off a carb craving. It's like an alcoholic falling off the wagon.
      If no low-carb foods are available, it's an opportunity to do a water fast!
