What the Bible says about abortion

  • There’s no “abortion verse” or “fetus verse” in the Bible.
    Does a woman have full autonomy over her body, even if another human is dependent on her body?
    Is a fetus a person, and therefore entitled to basic human rights?
    What does the Bible say?
    Scott Rae of Biola University lays out his argument that the Bible takes a pro-life position.

    The one thing that keeps me from completely being on the pro life side, are the cases of rape and sexual abuse. I know it’s the minority but it is still valid and very important. I feel like it’s really cruel to look at a rape victim that’s considering abortion and scream “baby killer”. Like, no one has ‘have an abortion’ on their bucket lists. But this person (hypothetically) has been psychologically scarred, and feels terrified and alone. They’re not thinking about ‘the greater good’ or some kind of unconditional morality, they’re thinking this is their only option out of freedom and pain.

This verse just brings us back to the question of what we can factually define as life at a specific point in pregnancy wether it be scientific or religious.

      • God enumerated his punishments for disobedience, including "cursed shall be the fruit of your womb" and "you will eat the fruit of your womb," directly contradicting sanctity-of-life claims (Deuteronomy 28:18,53).
      • For worshiping idols, God declared that not one of his people would live, not a man, woman or child (not even babies in arms), again confuting assertions about the sanctity of life (Jeremiah 44:7-8).
      • God will punish the Israelites by destroying their unborn children, who will die at birth, or perish in the womb, or never even be conceived (Hosea 9:10-16).
      • For rebelling against God, Samaria's people will be killed, their babies will be dashed to death against the ground, and their pregnant women will be ripped open with a sword (Hosea 13:16).
      • Jesus did not express any special concern for unborn children during the anticipated end times: "Woe to pregnant women and those who are nursing" (Matthew 24:19)

    I’ve always been pro-life, and against abortion till I learned more about pregnancy and it’s effects in gynaec and obstetrics. I’m not going to say that abortion is right, but there are situations where the health of the mother is more important -
    1. A child rape victim, who is unable to comprehend her situation and whose body is unsuitable for the pregnancy. In this case it is medical and psychological.
    2. An adult rape victim who is displaying immense psychological disturbance and is simply unable to cope with the pregnancy. Now I know many of you are saying that the child is innocent in this case, indeed it is true and honestly I think the women realise it as well and don’t abort the child. But there are some among them who are just that affected and at that time it’s better to do so for her health. Pregnancy even in the planned setting has immense psychological pressure, women frequently experience depression and other similar symptoms, on top of this the trauma from rape? I think God is merciful and loving, he knows when his daughters need help.
    3. A planned pregnancy where the mother’s life is in danger. No questions asked, I’m a medical student, I know my priority is the mom and my God will also without a doubt look out for his daughter.
    I insist that this topic not be discussed in the lines that ‘oh the child is innocent’, we people who have never been raped can not understand, and in the case you have been you still can’t comprehend what ur fellow victim is feeling. In all these situations the counsel and kindness of the church is important. Also, I think it’s better for abortion to be legal, not in support but because too many die from illegal abortions.

      A man rapes a woman and the baby is given a death sentence, is the rapist killed in the same way the baby is?? I know a woman whose husband raped her and she has three children by him, are her children to be killed? are they just like the father? or have a different personality. If you have a baby in the womb dismembered while alive because she was raped, then you must go and kill all the children born of rape. The baby did not rape the woman!

      @mayern3412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@eddiewood7573 A child born from rape is innocent. But in the hospital the priority will always be for the mother. I never said that they should be aborted, but if the mother is unable to cope due to the mental stress… then what is best will be done. This might not be abortion, simply support is often times the solution.
      Most women are unable to go through with abortion, even from rape. It’s just occurs to me as callous when people who have never gone through pregnancy casually say women should bear with it, particularly after a trauma. This was never about the child, for me it’s about the women. And please note, im speaking medically for women. For the children themselves abortion is carried out and even encouraged for foetuses with problems.
      My cousin brothers have both died in the past 6 years, both from muscular dystrophy. Their life was hard and their only entertainment was games, I loved them. My elder brother would often be bitten by ants but couldn’t even brush them away. Initially, the very idea of abortion disgusted me, otherwise how could I have met my brothers. But that’s selfish… this world isn’t merciful to such children. My brothers were fortunate, their parents were doctors, and our family supported them. They had nothing that we didn’t provide. But it isn’t the case for many families. It comes down to medical staff to be the villains in the case and encourage abortion.

    You give quite a few passages that you think are related to God's Word on abortion but unfortunately they are all wrong. Jeremiah and Psalms passages talk about how God knew they were going to be people before they were concieved. Of course He did. God does not live in linear time like we do. He is not corporeal. He sees all points in time in a single moment. So of course He knew them before they were concieved, when they were concieved, when they were born, when they died and all points inbetween. It does not say that they were considered people in the womb. So those passages are irrelevant. The Exodus passage merely points to a remedy set forth by the Sanhedrin (people, not God) for a woman miscarrying after a physical altercation. Again irrelevant since it does not talk about the baby being a person in the womb, only after it has left the womb. So now we come to the 6th commandment - Thou shall not kill. Thou shall not kill what? That translation doesn't specify. What you should have said is the translation is wrong. The actual Hebrew translation is Thou shall not murder (kill people). So now the question is when is a baby a person? God's Word also talks about that. In fact I'm wondering why you left out this passage - Genesis 2:7 where he shows how he made Adam - the first one of us. It's the only place in the Bible where God demonstrates how he makes people and yet you left it out. So what did God do. Well, He took a bunch of dirt and fashioned a body in His image (perfect in His sight, what He wanted this human to be like). And that's all it was - just a body, not a person. It wasn't until He breathed the breath of life into that body (gave it a spirit) and with that first breath spirit and body combined to make a living soul, a person. So based on that passage, a baby is not a person until after its born and takes its first breath. After all, God did not take a pinch of dirt and breathed life into it then fashioned the body. He made a fully formed body first then made it a person. So that means the 6th commandment does not apply. A baby in the womb is not a person according to the Bible - not until its born and takes its first breath. So if the choice for survival and well being is between a person (the mother) and a potential person (the body in her womb) I'm picking the person every time.
    Perhaps you should study the Bible further before you put forth your own assumptions regarding abortion. As a man I see no reason why you are allowed an opinion anyway since you have no standing. This is strictly a woman's issue and has nothing to do with you. What I see is a man who assumes that every baby concieved was meant to be born and has presented Biblical passages that you think confirms that assumption, however irrelevant they are. My question to you is how do you know that it's God's will that all baby's conceived are meant to be born? How do any of us know? I don't and neither do you. Let's face it, there have been a number of babies born that we would have been better off if they hadn't - Hitler, Stalin, John Wayne Gacy, Timothy McVeigh, etc. So before you put your assumptions before God's will (and NOTHING should come before God's will) you should take what I've said before the Lord, put aside your assumptions and ask if what I've said is true. Then wait for the answer AND wait for confirmation of the answer. Because there are times when what we think and what God thinks don't align. Sometimes God charges us to kill. The Canaanites, Perizzites, Jebusites and others - God charged the Isrealites to destroy them all in order to maintain the life God meant for them to have. Why is it wrong for a woman to do the same?

  • @kingdavid5529
    @kingdavid5529 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The Torah has laws where if a man harms the fruit of a woman's womb (unborn child) that an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life is traded. In other words, if a man (even on accident) struck a woman while pregnant, and the unborn child died, the man who struck her would be put to death. This is directly in the first 5 books of the Bible, you do not even need to go to the New Testament. In other words Biblically, the punishment for killing a baby unborn is the same as the punishment for murder or adultery, which is death. It is actually very clear. People just do not read Torah. I can give you the verses if you want, but in that context it is easy to lookup. Moses gives an example where if two men are fighting, and one strikes a woman ON ACCIDENT and her baby is injured or dies, the punishment is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life.
    Simple. Clear. Direct. Unarguable. Study Torah.

He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.

      Bible: *Moses murders half of his own people for worshipping a cow*

    • @sxnorthrop
      @sxnorthrop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Hebrew word "ratsach" literally means "murder". There's a perfectly good Hebrew word, "harag" for the generic word "kill" which you're using. The King James is the only legitimate translation that renders it this way. The appropriate translation is "You shall not murder". Murder is "the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another" (google), which is consistent with the rest of the ancient law code. He's not adding on anything to the text.
      *Moses murders half of his own people for worshipping a cow.*
      Moses didn't murder anyone. And certainly not "half his people" died. Both of these statements are false. In fact, so much so that I'm not even sure if you've actually read the book at all.
      #1 They were held in contempt according to the ancient law code, which says that idolatry is punishable by death.
      #2 They had every opportunity to leave and go to a different nation to worship any idol they wanted. Instead, they chose to stay in a place that had a death penalty for idol worship, knowing full well they'd be killed for it. This is not Islam, there's no punishment for leaving.
      #3 Moses wasn't the one who commanded them to be killed, it was God. And it was the Levites that executed the judgement.
      #4 3,000 of 600,000 is not half. It's not even 1%, try 0.5%. You're about 597,000 people off. Also, just to entertain your lie, let's say it was half, it still doesn't matter. Because you're missing the entire point of the passage.
      Exodus 22:20 - Whoever sacrifices to any god, other than the LORD alone, shall be devoted to destruction.
      We're also talking about the same people that God:
      - Delivered from 400 years of slavery.
      - Split the red sea and destroyed the entire army of Pharaoh to protect them.
      - Rained food down from heaven to feed the 600 thousand people.
      - Split open a giant rock that gushed infinite water for all of them to drink.
      - Saved them from a large scale war.
      ... and still they disobeyed Him constantly, over and over without end, complaining constantly. And ultimately after all that they decided to worship a statue of a cow instead of Him. Which was against the law that they agreed to follow which they knew would result in their death if they disobeyed.
      The point of this passage isn't supposed to make the reader go "Oh no! Those poor people!" It's supposed to make the reader go "Finally!!", because God is so painfully patient with them.
      Nehemiah 9:18-19 - Even when they cast for themselves an image of a calf and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and when they committed terrible blasphemies, You in Your great compassion did not forsake them in the wilderness...
      Yes, you read that right. Even then, God still delivered the people out of the wilderness.
      The people didn't even care about God or Moses
      Exodus 32:22-23 - “Do not be enraged, my lord,” Aaron replied. “You yourself know that the people are intent on evil. They told me, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this Moses who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him!’..."
      (no that does not mean that they don't know who Moses is...)
      Mind you, there are upwards of 600,000 people, and only three thousand were killed. That doesn't sound like "half of his own people" as you said.
      I don't think your a disingenuous person, but you're certainly misleading others by making completely false claims about what the bible says.

    It all depends on whether you consider the "laws" in the OT (like the Ten Commandments) to still be binding. If so, read Numbers 5 very carefully and thoughtfully (if possible), which describes the law concerning how a woman suspected of adultery is tried and punished if found guilty. This passage was closely studied by a Hebrew scholar as part of a larger study of the rites in Jewish law regarding adultery. Here is the citation: Bewer, Julius A., Union Theological Seminary, New York, "The Ordeal in Numbers Chapter 5", (The American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literatures, Volume 30, October 1913), 36-47. His conclusions are very very clear: a pregnant adulteress will MISCARRY. Earlier or overly literal translations obscure or water down the sense of the text. "Thigh", in particular, is a euphemism for her reproductive system. IF the woman IS found guilty of adultery, then she has definitely had sex with another man, and sex often leads to PREGNANCY. Clearly SOME of the women found guilty WILL be pregnant. So here we have a LAW, decreed by god, which orders (adulterous pregnant) women to take specific, ritualized actions which cause the abortion of their fetuses. So not only does god not forbid abortions, he commands that they deliberately occur.

    • @leisulin
      @leisulin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Phil Andrew Right! If she DID have intercourse with another man, she MIGHT BE PREGNANT. Some of the women would certainly be. And surely they realized that! But they didn't care! The loss of a fetus was so unimportant to them they didn't even mention it. So why would they have the slightest problem with abortion?? You're right, "it was simply a ritual to induce infertility". But it caused the "death" of a fetus for every woman who happened to BE pregnant due to the infidelity. And such an eventuality was too trivial even to mention!

      Luke 22:36, Exodus 22:2-3, Luke 18:3, some simple research shows that there are various bible verses that say self-defense is okay... Along with this, the Hebrew word that the commandment was originally written in actually translates to “the intentional, premeditated killing of another person with malice; murder.” So you are the one misconstruing the commandment. It says nothing on self-defense and war, but instead on murder. This does not apply to self-defense, war, and capital punishment. How about you do a simple google search instead of spreading uneducated viewpoints you dunce.

      Retzach[edit]
      The Hebrew verb רצח (r-ṣ-ḥ, also transliterated retzach, ratzákh, ratsakh etc.) is the word in the original text that is translated as "murder" , but it has a wider range of meanings, generally describing destructive activity, including meanings "to break, to dash to pieces" as well as "to slay, kill, murder".
      According to the Priestly Code of the Book of Numbers, killing anyone outside the context of war with a weapon, or in unarmed combat, is considered retzach, but if the killing is accidental, the accused must flee to one of the cities of refuge-and remain in that city until the high priest dies, or the "revenger of blood" can kill the accused with no legal repercussions. The Bible never uses the word retzach in conjunction with war.

      The worst part is, christians are ignorant of the fact that their satanic "God" even orders abortions himself.
      Numbers 5
      11 Then the LORD said to Moses, 12 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If a man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him 13 so that another man has sexual relations with her, and this is hidden from her husband and her impurity is undetected (since there is no witness against her and she has not been caught in the act), 14 and if feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure-or if he is jealous and suspects her even though she is not impure- 15 then he is to take his wife to the priest. He must also take an offering of a tenth of an ephah of barley flour on her behalf. He must not pour olive oil on it or put incense on it, because it is a grain offering for jealousy, a reminder-offering to draw attention to wrongdoing.
      16 “‘The priest shall bring her and have her stand before the LORD. 17 Then he shall take some holy water in a clay jar and put some dust from the tabernacle floor into the water. 18 After the priest has had the woman stand before the LORD, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse. 19 Then the priest shall put the woman under oath and say to her, “If no other man has had sexual relations with you and you have not gone astray and become impure while married to your husband, may this bitter water that brings a curse not harm you. 20 But if you have gone astray while married to your husband and you have made yourself impure by having sexual relations with a man other than your husband”- 21 here the priest is to put the woman under this curse-“may the LORD cause you to become a curse[d] among your people when he makes your womb miscarry and your abdomen swell. 22 May this water that brings a curse enter your body so that your abdomen swells or your womb miscarries.”
      “‘Then the woman is to say, “Amen. So be it.”

  • @Arclor
    @Arclor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This comment will probably fall on deaf ears, but anyways:
    First off, I'm glad you addressed the actual issue that the abortion issue comes down to whether or not a fetus is a person. Bravo
    However, I think you are taking liberties with the Exodus Passage. First off, the NIV Bible has a footnote stating that premature birth or miscarriage both can apply in verse 22. Second, in the NIV, and other translations, the sentence's grammar structure clearly implies that injury refers to the mother, but is NOT clear whether it applies to the fetus. If we interpret Exodus 21:22 as a premature birth where the child AND mother are both unharmed, and yet the aggressor still pays a fine, then this verse is inconsistent with the rest of Levitical Law. Punishment is never doled out for actions resulting in zero damage. It only makes sense if there is some sort of damage - aka observable damage to the child once it exits the womb. The premature birth has to result in deformities, developmental issues, or death of the child for the aggressor to pay a fine. The Lex Talionis part in 23-25 clearly refers to the mother. You could presumably kill the mother, and not the fetus by hitting her, the fetus is soon after expelled (and maybe survives) and yet the aggressor would pay life for a life for killing the mother, and not the fetus.
    But hey, guess what, we don't have to argue grammatical differences, we can go back to the Greek Septuagint translation. If you translate 22-25 from Greek to English, you get:
    "And if two men strive and smite a woman with child, and her child be born imperfectly formed, he shall be forced to pay a penalty: as the woman's husband may lay upon him, he shall pay with a valuation. But if it be perfectly formed, he shall give life for life"
    This is actually something new. It actually implies that there is a point at which the fetus crosses from being not a person to being a person. Early Christian patriarchs in the 4th century AD and before wouldn't have had any other way of discerning this point other than fetal viability. If you have premature childbirth, and the child suffers no apparent issues and survives - fully formed. Premature childbirth and child is dead, or dies soon after - not fully formed.
    This in my opinion very clearly rejects the evangelical Christian notion that a person is formed at the moment of conception. That's a viewpoint meant to push an agenda.

    • @oztuber2
      @oztuber2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yet another using the corrupt NIV which is the only version that has this agenda over all the many versions... same deal in numbers 5.... total misinterpretation of the words....
      Exodus 21
      22If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. 23And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
      There is no miscarriage here.. It is saying if the woman who has been hit has a baby early and there is no damage(mischief) then the assaulter should surely be punished for hurting the woman, But if any harm(mischeif) does occur down the line an eye for an eye or death in the case of a still born.. If the baby later comes out deformed from the assault the punishment would be equal.. If it came out blind... Then the asaulter would be blinded as punishment...... A baby 'departing from her' is a baby being BORN.. Not dying.. And AGAIN this shows the importance held for THE UNBORN and that an unborn baby is 100% considered as life which goes back to conception.

    • @Arclor
      @Arclor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oztuber2 Oh great, you wanna go back and use older translations? Let's do that, shall we. Since these verses are part of the Torah, we gotta defer to the Jewish and their community on the matter. The Jewish scholar and rabbi known as Rashi interpreted these verses to mean that if any harm came specifically to the mother, then the punishment/fine applies. The mischief does not apply to the fetus, since it is assumed a miscarriage, or that it will die shortly after birth since, you know, premature births had an insanely high infant mortality rate 2 to 4 thousand years ago.
      Also, if you familiarize yourself with Jewish Talmud law, you'll find that they don't consider a fetus a person until it is naturally born. This is why the Jewish community always has largely been pro-choice, ESPECIALLY if there's a chance of any medical complications for the mother.
      Also, glad you recognized the NIV is partially corrupt. Maybe you'll also recognize that in the 1980s, they had an anti-gay agenda so they paid for a translation that changed the word "boy molesters" to mean homosexuals in the New Testament verses, meaning those verses in 1 Corinthians, Romans, and 1 Timothy don't actuallt condemn homosexuality, they condemned pederasty (which is rape).

  • @trevthegamedev
    @trevthegamedev ปีที่แล้ว

    Even if that Exodus passage was talking about a miscarriage, that still would not justify abortion. There are passages about other Biblical figures having their born children killed as a punishment, yet that does not justify killing children post-birth. In the same way, that verse does not justify killing children pre-birth.

      @@LadyAsia93 "so abortion isn't sin?"
      Wel, since the definition of the word sin is "a transgression of a divine law", unless someone can prove a deity exists then can prove what that deity's laws are, there is no reason to think anything is a sin.
      This, of course, does not address the question is it immoral or moral?
      But assuming a god exists, and it is the god of the Bible, can you point out a passage that says abortion is a sin?
      Meanwhile, I will list these passages that would indicate the Bible has no problem with terminating pregnancies:
      Hosea 13:16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
      2 Kings 15:16 Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up.
      Think your pregnant wife is carrying another man's baby? This ritual will end the pregnancy is she has cheated on you. This is considered to be an induced abortion to rid a woman of another man’s child. Numbers 5:11-21

      Nothing wrong with reading any one book . . I read many quotes from the first two authors mentioned , and having a conversation with either of them would be fun . Reading the bible is really not that difficult , it takes time yes but one needs to familiarize oneself with the text , the language , the different dialects , (for example ) lets use the apostle Paul , Paul spoke greek but it was colloquial greek a type of dialect that takes some getting used too . Understanding how God teaches (symbolically) how Jesus spoke (in parables) , the use of polysyndetons , dispensationalism , sourcing , (SOURCING) which is a major factor in rightly dividing the word of truth . The majority of readers who read the bible come away with an eisegesis mentality , they see it all literally and that;s not how our Father teaches . Peace to you !

    Revelation 22:11
    ""let the unrighteous man remain unrighteous still"
    See, it's God's will that you allow others free will without interfering with their rights or do not infringe upon others rights but practice your righteousness without trying to play like if you have God's authority to interfere when you and I absolutely never had such authority.
    The scriptural passage continues, "But let those righteous, continue being righteous still".
    You heard your command now from God and never allow anyone to interfere with your rights ever , if they do bring these scriptures out and check to see if they obey God or are a false religion that will not obey God but obeys men instead.

What spirit do you think encourages that?? In John 10:10, Christ states..."I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. ... The thief (devil) comes only to steal and kill and destroy." Can't you see that is what is being promoted now?? Additionally, if anyone looks up the founder of planned parenthood, Margaret Sanger, she was a eugenicists and racists. She was an atheist full of hate. If you compare Exodus 21:22 with Exodus 23:26 you'll see that in 23:26 it is talking about miscarrying and that the Hebrew word used there for miscarriage was not used in 21:22
    Also the penalty in Exodus 21 is death, and to my knowledge it is the only time that the death penalty is given for an accident.
    I highly doubt that the LORD would want a man to be killed for accidently killing a women, with only a fine given for the death of a baby.
    When someone accidently kills a man, the LORD provides safety cities for the killer to flee to so that they are not killed by anyone seeking retribution, but people want to believe that the LORD - YHVH wants death given to someone who accidently kills a woman?
    I think that the penalties in Exodus 21:22 is what the husband sees fit and a fine for accidentally causing a premature live birth where the baby is otherwise healthy,
    and the death penalty for accidently causing a miscarriage (life for life).
    It makes sense to me that God would put a harder penalty on accidently killing a child in contrast with the penalty for accidently killing an adult.

      Or that Moses, or any prophet, or anyone who read the word aloud to the people, so that they could hear,
      was sinning when they proclaimed the name of YHVH?
      That tradition I believe is supposedly meant to keep his name Holy,

      I guess it's just speaking historically, saying that YHVH is the God of the Israelites (the children of Jacob who is named Israel),

      I know that YHVH is the God of everyone, not just Israel, and not just the tribe of Judah, but everyone...
      Ezekiel 18:4 "Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die."
      ("...all souls are mine..."

      Doesn't it have verses like:
      Hosea 12:3
      "He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:"
      Judges 13:4-5
      "Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
      For lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines."
      ("...from the womb..."
      the mother shouldn't drink while pregnant with the fetus because he has to be a Nazarite even while he's in the womb before birth.)
      Jeremiah 1:5
      "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet to the nations"
      Job 31:15
      "Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?"
      And
      Psalms 139:13-14
      "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
      I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous [are] thy works; and [that] my soul knoweth right well."

    To suggest that the Bible is silent on abortion is a lie. In both the Old and New Testaments, the language used to describe born and unborn people is the same. For example, in Luke 1:41, the unborn John the Baptist is called a “brephos” which means “babe” or “baby” in Greek. Then, in the very next chapter, the born Jesus is also called a “brephos.” We are also told that Elizabeth’s baby leapt in her womb upon being in the presence of Mary. Should we conclude that this makes no statement about the unborn? If so, and if the Bible is silent on abortion, then it is logical to also conclude that Scripture is indifferent about whether these women would have aborted Jesus and John the Baptist. After all, by pro-choice reasoning, at this point they didn’t even exist. (A few Scriptural references to the unborn include: Genesis 25:22-24; Job 31:15; Psalm 22:9-10; Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; Hosea 12:2-3; Luke 1:15; Luke 1:41; and Exodus 21:22-24.)
    Moreover, not every word Jesus uttered is recorded in Scripture so there is no way to know whether He ever addressed abortion or not. We should also remember that there is no record of Jesus ever speaking out against slavery - a point which apologists for slavery routinely made. In fact, most of our laws relate to behaviors which neither Jesus nor the Bible specifically addressed.

So be it.”

    I have always struggled with one issue, I don't think Germans in 1940 were devoid of basic morality. I used to think maybe the population at large didn't know that thousands of Jews were being gassed and cremated. I refused to accept that the Germans knew what was going on, but chose to keep quiet. Now I don't ask myself those questions anymore. I am witnessing what humans are capable of, millions of innocents are being killed, some of us conveniently do the bare minimum to fight it, others don't care one way or the other and the rest are actively pushing it for whatever reason. I read a comment last year, posted by a Muslim under a video about the most recent conflict between Israel and Palestine, and it read, " too bad the N4zis didn't finish their job". Many of us choose comfort in the face of pure evil, and we call ourselves Christians. Dems don't hide where they stand regarding abortion, yet millions of self-identified Christians gladly gave them their seal of approval by their votes. I wonder how many German Jews voted HltLer in power.

      Per Germans and the Holocaust, here are a couple of points to consider; 1) anti-Semitism has very deep roots in Europe. Not all Germans were as anti-Semitic as Nazi Party members, but most chose to look the other way when it came to Hitler's virulent anti-Semitism rife in his speeches early on, perhaps due in part to their own subtle anti-Semitic views. This segues to the next point 2) As was the case with the rise of the Third Reich, the Holocaust was incremental - Jews weren't deported to death camps from day one. What satan himself did right through Hitler early on was to essentially stoke and manipulate the Germans people's lower, baser instincts of German pride as well as grievance & bitterness over the crushing aftermath of WW1 and the fear that the terrible economic hardships would happen again. The way he legitimized his warped hate filled ideology was to infuse a lot of false promises and false hope replete with an "us against the world" mentality, bolstered by copying FDR's New Deal Socialist policies; i.e. it's one thing to crow on and on about what caused the crushing fall of Germany post WW1 but Hitler essentially bought German loyalty by all of the smoke and mirrors socialist programs he implemented. Problem was, Germans never stopped to consider the ramifications of who was going to pay for all of it as German inflation began spiraling out of control in the mid to late 1930's nor where all of this Nazi ideology was leading to. This segues to the next point 3) Hitler most certainly had a strategy for how to pay for all of it and many other diabolical plans which is why he frequently prattled on about "Lebensaum" as one of his many warped and twisted racially based justifications for war. By the time you get to 1935, your avg German's economic situation was so improved they were all too willing to swallow the Nazi propaganda they were being fed - despite the extremely troubling despotic and totalitarian policies and police state actions of the Gestapo which segues to perhaps the most important point of all 4) at one point in the 1930's Hitler began murdering institutionalized Germans with severe mental disabilities and deformities. There was such a HUGE outcry by the German people against this that the Nazis backed off of their Margaret Sanger inspired Eugenics genocide for a while. But when it came to the persecution of German Jews, Germans were silent. The question is, why didn't ethnic Germans band together in mass numbers against the persecution of Jews the same way they did the other? Protestant Pastor Martin Niemöller summed it up this way;
      First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a socialist.
      Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out- because I was not a trade unionist.
      Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Jew.
      Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

      I refuse to accept that Germans didn't know about the Nazis' hatred of Jews. On 'Kristallnacht' 7 November 1938 Goebbels encouraged the SA and others to burn down synagogues (191 in total), destroy Jewish businesses (815 shops destroyed) & violently attack Jews (76 killed). It was also important because for the first time Jews were put into concentration camps because of their race. On November 12, 1938 The Decree on the Exclusion of Jews from German Economic Life came into force. It closed all Jewish-owned businesses in Germany. All of Germany's Jews were ordered to pay a collective fine of 1 billion Reichsmarks for the murder of Ernst vom Rath. The Nazis were steadily and methodically working their way to Hitler's ""Final Solution to the Jewish Question" ("Endlösung der Judenfrage"), the deliberate and systematic mass murder of European Jews. It was the last stage of the Holocaust and took place from 1941 to 1945.

I question how people so willingly worship a being with dubious morals. Where am I attacking the person I'm writing to?
      I'm attacking the ideas and the arguments and what the person said. That is not attacking the person. I don't know why it's so damn hard for some people to differ between a topic/matter/idea at hand being discussed and a person.
      I don't think or say I know more than others or that I'm superior to the person I was writing to. So again how am I arrogant?
      You're the one that think you know more than me since you tell me to go educate myself, this without knowing anything about me or what knowledge i have that puts me in this position. So speaking of arrogance, maybe you should take a good look at yourself first? I think you know that's in the bible aswell.
      But as usual a lot of religious people really struggle living by the crap they try to throw at others.
      As far as the ignorance goes, like I said you don't know anything about me. You just spew out insults and attack me as a person calling me a dumbass and ignorant insted of addressing what I wrote with arguments. Hilarious.
      And if I was to inform you how knowledge about religions are part of my education or that I've been a christian and that I know my bible it wouldn't matter to you anyway. As a matter of fact the very in depth studying and reasoning concerning christianity and other religions is what made me stop believing in it. Because you'll just come up with some shit like I wasn't really a christian (as if you're the judge of that) or that I'm lying, or some other lame excuse insted of just accepting the fact that there are non-believers that are just as knowledgeable on religions and still doesn't believe in it for perfectly sound reasons. I'm not less informed just because I don't worship your god.
      Oh, and believe me I have asked myself that questions of eternal life vs one finite life here and now many times. I definitely prefer my stance because EVEN IF the god of the bible would be real I'm not selling myself cheap to a sadistic psycho just because he offers me an eternal life. I'm not the type of person that bends over because some supposed god threatens me to submission. And no that is not arrogance, that's having some dignity and moral integrity. Unlike the god of the bible that supposedly got the power but just can't be bothered with helping children being raped for example. If I had the power to stop a rapist I would, unlike your god. I wouldn't just watch and wait until it's over with before I take actions. I also wouldn't have a bunch of kids killed for being rude to a man. That god really got anger management issues of biblical proportions. lol
      If we hold human beings to a higher standard than a god you got to admit it's something really fucked up with worshipping that god. And why worshipping or cheer for someone with a fucked up moral compass? You wouldn't think it's ok for the police or a human father to watch a crime happen to a citizen or to their child and just stand around waiting while the person begs for help while they are fully capable of stopping it.
      Free will of humans is a lousy scapegoat (since you seem to like pointing out words in the bible, there's another one) for not taking responsability and having some backbone as a superior being.
      But this whole bs about an eternal life. There's a whole lot of other supposed gods claiming the same crap and no evidence that show any of it is real. I'm not the kind of person that likes blind faith, it's a waste of my time and energy. I have more pressing issues to deal with in my life than to walk around worrying that I an action might or might not anger a morally corrupt skydad. I rather live and cherish the life I know I have than to dream of an afterlife we got no proof of. Quite simple.

    Ephesians 6, 5-8 states that slavery is okay. Leviticus 19:19 and Deuteronomy 22:11 also state that mixing two types of fabric is a sin. Don’t claim to be a man of god if you do not follow all of the rules he has written.

    • @TheSaundersPack
      @TheSaundersPack 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Slavery then was not at all like the slavery we saw in America. It actually refers to someone being in debt. So if you have ever had a car loan or a mortgage and made payments, that is more like what the Bible refers to when it talks about slavery. Owing someone and having to pay it off was called being in slavery at the time. Also, you sighted Ephesians 6:5-8 and said that it states slavery is okay. That's not what is says. It addresses slaves and tells them the proper way to act. In Ephesians 6:9 it tells masters to treat slaves kindly and reminds them that there is no favoritism in Heaven. So the passage is saying that slaves (remember it means those in debt to someone else) and masters (the people who are owed money/work) are to treat each other with kindness and respect and that they have equal importance in the eyes of God.
      As far as the verses on mixing two types of fabric, that is not a moral law. It was a rule given for those people at that specific time. It has a lot more to do with the culture at the time. Mixing the two types of fabric (linen & wool) was reserved for something holy. God told the people that only the high priest could do this as a way to remind the people of God's holiness. There are other strange rules like this in the Old Testament that seem really out there unless you understand the historical and cultural significance of what God is saying. This rule (like many others) also helped to set the followers of God apart from other people near them who were worshiping false gods.
      It is really important to read the Bible all together and put verses in context with each other and historically so that you can see the big picture. Just looking at one verse at a time, things can seem confusing or even contradictory but when you see it all together, it makes sense. It really is a beautiful thing!

      13 13 i hope you know that the spiritual world is serious and definitely real. You have a soul, which is your inner essence, we are all going somewhere still being who we are. You are eternal, though not in body as we obvs know. If you don’t believe in God one bit you will remember this comment, while locked out far away from him and his uniquely - beautiful dimension, near presence. I don’t know how that doesn’t scare you? I’m sure not but I will pray for you. 🙏🏻 Lost souls are those that chose what they did, knowing about him. God loves you, but if you just don’t believe then I don’t know what else to say. I can say I proudly believe in God as you know, and that he’s the only one and Christ Jesus who can change it all for you. You are here happening you are his child he loves you so much. It will make him sad but he will not force someone who just can give him a chance to show, if you are impatient or in distress doubting then he waits for you to be done, he will always be waiting to receive your love. In the end it’s God, he made the world for us and everything in it! Except evil people who are who they chose to be and sadly. Needless to say just believe, if possible. You will find a better meaning of everything in general. 💫

    Numbers 5 verses 19 through 22:
    Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, “If no man has lain with you, if you have not turned aside to uncleanness while under your husband’s authority, be immune to this water of bitterness that brings the curse. But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, if you have defiled yourself and some man other than your husband has had intercourse with you,” -let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse and say to the woman-“the Lord make you an execration and an oath among your people, when the Lord makes your uterus drop, your womb discharge; now may this water that brings the curse enter your bowels and make your womb discharge, your uterus drop!” And the woman shall say, “Amen. Amen.”
    This is the Bible. Not only mentioning how to perform an abortion but ordering that an ordained priest iss needed to perform it.

      @Greed23. You are ignorant of the Hebrew of Numbers 5, and reading into the text what is not there, which is called eisegesis. Do some research and stop spreading disinformation: th-cam.com/video/JaYHTnPFuC0/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=CRoadwarrior
