  • Everyone wants to save the planet, but what if you could make an easy buck while doing it? Desi Lydic joins the “Idle Warriors,” a group focused on reporting idle vehicles for a cash reward. Desi searches high and low in New York City to save the environment, and maybe even pay off some credit card bills. #DailyShow #DesiLydic #NYC

For a bit in my early twenties I was dock supervisor at a newspaper (remember newspapers?). I was singly in charge of the loading dock (from which newspapers left the presses to be further dispersed within the city.) Trucks would often pull up in front of the dock doors, blocking the only source of ventilation, with engines running and just sit there for great lengths of time gassing everyone around. I sometimes instructed the drivers to turn off their engines and was invariably brushed aside or laughed away. “Who are you, kid? Go away.” “I’m the dock supervisor. I’m in charge of the dock and all that goes on in it.” It would have been delicious if Rockford had had an ordinance banning truck idly and cellphones had been invented.

I live in a ground-floor flat (yes, in London, that's why I say "flat"). Some of my windows open over the end of a close in the middle of a big housing estate. The summer I was sweating over my MA dissertation, some dude who'd moved back in with his grandmother on the close would spend HOURS sitting in his idling car parked right UNDER my window, often on the phone and sometimes doing balloons and giggling inanely. So even without the idling engine, it would have been an immense irritation, but the engine was IDLING.
The following summer it was lockdown, and everything that was happening on the close got about 100% worse.

@@arj-peace Wow we have complete opposite perspectives. First the positive, she's been a loyal and supporting member of TDS for many years and seems like a genuine caring person to all her co-workers and brings a lot of family feeling to the cast. Now the bitter pill: She is a mediocre comedy talent and has to lean so heavily on this very corporate friendly populist feminism memes which makes the lack of talent and substance so evident. This segment another demonstration, and I admit this was a comedy desert so I give her some slack. But to make an isn't Jake Gylenhaal hot joke (which bombed deservedly) which, and I dont want to be one of those whiny people that does this all the time, if the genders where reversed it would just be a creepy remark. I dont really care about that except that it shows how phony her corporate brand of feminism really is.
On top of that to pick Jake Gylenhaal as your hotman reference?! Either you have not done your homework and didn't read Dominica Feraud's The Moviestar and Me or was aware of it, or she did and she is actually being an accomplice to predatory behaviour so she or the show keeps access and does a favour to Jake Gyllenhaal's agent and publisher. Both options are pretty sad.
The best of the rotating desk was without any shadow of a doubt Roy Wood Jr. and its a crime that they didnt come begging on their knees if he would please take over the show. I love Jon's return and it has been a great boom to the show, but them chasing Roy away has greatly reduced their worth. Can't say the same about if Desi were decide to leave.

Have you ever been a driver? In Midwest winters? In Florida summers? Is it too much to ask to not freeze, or pass out from heat exhaustion, while eating your lunch? Also carbon emissions go down when a one year old is in the back seat in 98 degree weather when you’re sitting in a drive thru, and you’re running the A/C. Why stop at actual professional drivers that you rely on to transport your Amazon package? Why not just outlaw heating and cooling in cars? Does that seem unreasonable? So does your argument against idling to anyone that has ever done any real work in their lives.

Great, you're a lawmaker! Include the combustion vehicles parked illegally in front of electric charging spots.. they call it 'ICEing'. Imagine if someone just put a boat in front of your gas station spot.. now, what kind of learning curve will it take the US to electrify? There is a city in China where 40% of the cars are already Electric, and Norway is banning the sale of combustion vehicles in 2025 - Sweden is doing the same, and more countries need to follow. China's EV production is making this possible. By the way, we've known the need to electrify for more than 35 years. This shows the power of oil company corruption. I liken this to WW-C World war climate change. We're all in it whether you like it or not, light 2020 with the virus. California is banning combustion vehicles in 2035.. how do you win a war by responding 10 years later? That's the best the US has? If we are to lead the world, we need to take it seriously. Let's find lawmakers and emergency responders to all get EVs.. start from the top. There are efforts to electrify all school buses and metros as well. Everything will get easier from there.

@@beebuzz959 depends on the type of engine, age of the vehicle, type of vehicle, etc. diesel engines, as an example, are a little more finicky than gasoline engines when it comes to the start-up process. This is exemplified with large engines like you have in delivery vehicles or trucks. Newer vehicles it is less of an excuse because of modern technology and a lot of them even have engine cut-offs for when you're stopped at a light and the engine will turn off after a set amount of time.

The state of Florida had a law prohibiting the idling of 8,500+ lb. vehicles that was REPEALED during a process of a comprehensive rule review in late 2011. The rule review was performed in accordance with Governor Rick Scott’s Executive Order 11-0, “Suspending Rulemaking and Establishing the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Regulatory Reform.” The purpose of the annual rule review is to identify rules that are “duplicative, unnecessarily burdensome, or no longer necessary.” The rationale given for the repeal of the idling law was, “Market incentives for diesel fuel cost savings render the anti-idling requirements of Rule 62-285.420, F.A.C., unnecessary.”
So, Rick Scott actually reversed the progress. Not surprising at all for him.
