there have been generations of mining families with some going back to the klondike gold rush working around these creeks. they have a lot of experience and many have drilled the traditional area's along with marginal outlying creeks that were bypassed by the 1898 gold rush prospectors. at least parker has had a good run at Indian River. proceed with caution parker take no chances and see results or walk away ,it looks like he has that figured out . maybe he will get more into prospecting and discovery of gold deposits as it would make for exciting viewing and is a very challenging activity and there are many locations in the world that have potential for great finds for those who would take on this daunting time consuming task.⛏

Although this looks like wasting a lot of money - the fact that parker refuses to mine bad or untested ground is actually one of the most important differentiators between him and other miners. Many other miners would have just mined the ground and blown through millions of dollars mining el dorado - now, parker will only be out $100-$200 grand and he will find another claim that is better and keep his mining operation thriving.

As a kid he might have thought he understood what he was reading and only after getting some experience realized he was going to be grabbing his ankles to fulfill his park of the bargain.

Seems like a lot of know it all’s that have never mined before. The only issue I have with this site is all hard rock mines even from years past, are mapped. He should’ve known where those shafts were before boring. It only makes sense not to bore in those areas. That’s basic mining

@@Steven-nu6np I met a geologist who had retired from Alaska gold mining. They would sink a shaft and lower a bulldozer down in to excavate the tunneling at the right depth on the bedrock. Parker does only open pit mining, but that is not the only way. Since that site was excavator tunnel mined, there will only be some pillars of virgin rock left. Maybe 10% maybe 20%. They might have just timbered it on a route and collapse mined back off the face, and gotten it all, or just timbered the whole thing. What is left is a layer that is all flooded football fields in size. Months to pump it out. Strip mining would be dangerous and wet. Seeing that mess, I wouldn't have given the family a dime to explore it. They can go sit on it and dream of riches for the rest of their lives and I would move on.

There are a few current declines that use equipment like jumbo drills and roadheaders but no one has ever lowered equipment down a shaft in Fairbanks. And they pulled the pillars in each lay. Your geologist freind is wrong.

Also, you would think there's not enough gold left to make it worth mining because it's an abandoned mine... Miners already determined that particular area is no longer a viable spot to mine. Yet he comes in like "what this needs is a two hundred thousand dollar second opinion".
